No. The school board or ministry of education publishes a curriculum document for each course. You can access that document online. Type in (your province, state, territory, or region), curriculum documents. Then choose elementary or secondary, and then go through the links for the subject of interest.That curriculum document explains what must be covered in the course. For the most part yes, but don’t expect to get to a high degree of fluency through the couple of hours of French a week a student will experience from Kindergarten to Grade 8 (in some districts) or Grade 4 to Grade 8 (in other districts.)In high school you must take one French class in Grade 9. At the elementary level, at least 50 per cent of all instruction is provided in French.Core French is what I experienced, Grades 4–9. It wasn’t very effective. French immersion can get you to B1/B2 on the CEFR scale. B1 would be independently conversational and B2 would be full working proficiency, good enough to work or study in the language in a French country.Good luck.
