Do 110,000 children go missing in the U.K. each year?
Children’s care homes have a policy of reporting every unauthorised absence by a resident. One would report the same child (15 years old) several times each day, as they just walked out when they felt like it and the staff were not allowed to prevent them physically. It was not unusual for them to register 4 or 5 reports in one day! This then, as far as they were concerned, transferred the responsibility from them onto the police. These accounted for the overwhelming majority of our missing children reports.Eventually I insisted that they complete a template police missing person form for each resident, leaving just time and date of absconding and clothing worn, blank, to be filled in by their staff when making the report.Nearly all small children were found within a matter of minutes, ocasionally hours, often at a friend’s house, or even concealed in their own house. Those reports were treated as Grade 1 emergencies.Older kids and teenagers could be gone for longer and provoked more serious and prolonged enquiries and active searching. Some teenagers, particularly girls, were probably indulging in inappropriate relationships, but these were investigated by specialists, with considerable difficulty, given the reluctance of the ‘kids’ to co-operate.In my 30 years I was involved in only one search which turned out to be the result of criminal abduction and, sadly, the murder of 2 young girls. The perpetrator is now in prison, since 1990, and cannot be released until 2054 at the earliest, when he would be 88. Hopefully nature or some other form of karma will deal with him before his release becomes a possibility. Child murderers are not popular in prison and he has been attacked a number of times.Only a handful of child disappearances go unresolved or end in death.
Which is the kind of vacation tracking software you use for your company?
Software? You can always use employee absence templates or any other worksheets…However, when summer comes in, it gets more knotty to put together all the absences and substitutions. Here are all the steps, fill out all the papers, get permissions, collect all the signatures, select the substitution, send or print out document(s) to the HR department, ask some extra questions, make little corrections, and, okey, now you’re done. You can always rely on methods well-tried for you.We use emplo, software which does ALL the things mentioned above for you.Seriously:) Without pulling the wool over your eyes.In emplo, choose days you need your vacation leave, sick leave or other days. emplo already knows to whom forward the request. You don’t need to care who is supposed to accept your leave request because, as I said, the software cares for that. Also, emplo makes it easier for a manager and employees to see who is going substitute a given person. What is more, emplo calculates outstanding days-off and organizes calendars. Each type of an absence has a different color, so getting information is quick and easy. Do you want to check out if your colleague is in the office? Just hover over their profile picture. Depending on the type of an absence it comes out in different colors (The green bar means that the person is in the office). Also, head over to team absences to check out absences within your team.Isn’t it enough factual information? :) I think, that’s enough for now. That’s why, ask for a free demo to have a first-hand experience with emplo!
When someone has an attack/panic attack because of C-PTSD, is he/she cognizant of the things said during this highly anxious phase of the attack?
Most likely not, but that does not mean they are not responsible for them or that it would be cruel to let them know. Many people will not seek treatment thinking it only affects them, no one else is impacted, or they simply (& mistakenly) conclude they are somehow defective and not worth the investment…They often fear that if it anyone knew what went on inside of them they would be considered crazy, or incapable of doing their work (thus losing their source of income and endangering their survival which could trigger flashbacks in some cases).Another common fear is that they are not fit for relationships, parenting, or marriage. So when they have an episode, even if they know where they are and they aren't reliving their specific trauma, they can find themselves in a chaotic state of emotional overwhelm which renders them desperate to fend off any would be attackers, threats, or critics. If you are an important person in their life, if you truly care, then consider reaching out to them privately and either doing so in writing or reading aloud a written letter thatbyou then leave with them, you keep a copy in case they spin out with the idea that you said unkind, cruel things you did not say. Not to be right but to help them keep your interaction right-sized and tell themselves the truth about it. Which is why I suggest not making other comments, just working hard on writing a kind, clear letter (having an uninvolved wise person edit it often helps), then reading it, and leaving it with them to discuss with you when they are ready. Try the communication template below to structure a brief statement. You may wish to use the sandwich technique to hell them feel safe with you before and after the templated portion, but all of it should be written in a gentle, warm, factual style…the way you would want to be spoken to about such things, the way you would want someone to speak to your child or aging grandmother or cherished leader."When you _____" (<-fill in briefly with a few action or inaction words describing the behaviors that occurred which you want them to be aware of. For example, "When you called me names & put me down after I dropped that cheap vase we just bought…""I felt _____" (<-fill in briefly with 2–3 emotion words, not speculation about their thoughts, history, motives, or intentions…not stories, conclusions, or thoughts, just how you FELT. Options include: mad, sad, glad, surprised, scared, etc. Notice the absence of things like "you don't love me" or "you don't value me"…those are stories you made up in your head, understandably, because of the impact of what they said & did…dial it back to the emotion. Jumping to conclusions will only trigger them more but they can potentially hear you and take in that you are impacted by them, which is undoubtedly a factual aspect of the human experience.)(This next part is optional, skip it and go to the next one unless you feel safe with this person at the moment.) "Because _____" (<-fill in briefly with an incident that occurred, if possible, before you ever met them or (in the case of parents or older family members) use an early incident not involving them…the goal is to help them empathize with you, to understand why this experience with them is especially impactful. If there is no such experience, there almost always is so really look, then simply outline why this current relationship is so important to you and what values that you hold seem endangered by this incident.)"I prefer _____" (<-fill in briefly with a statement about what works better for you…For example, "I prefer to be spoken to respectfully, at a lower volume & pace that I can understand more effectively.")"Can you please _____" (<-fill in briefly with a specific request. For example, my go-to is "Can you please give this some thought and get back to me in X amount of time?"_________I also recommend looking at IFS, Internal Family Systems (www.selfkeadership.org) to help you understand how traumatized people often respond to these impactful traumatic experiences, what the road toward recovery looks like, and what caring people can do to help.
