So finally after a long wait after GATE 2020 results (almost 8 months ) I appeared for 1st interview ( All Thanks to this idiot corona ).Coming to the point let's talk business.VENUE - IIPM GURGAONTIME - 8:00 amDATE - 9 NOV. 2020I was late around 5–7 minutes as by mistake I took wrong road while driving . But it was all fine some more students came later than me .First of all we reached the leadership room .It was very big and somewhat was giving the feeling of a theatre . At around 8:30 Abhishek sir started with the presentation after waiting for late comers 😛.He was very friendly and told us basic things about IOCL , about its diversity and different departments.It ended at about 9:15 am.Did I mention strength of students that day ?25 candidates were scheduled from Civil (18 were present) and 25 from Chemical .Then process of DOCUMENT VERIFICATION started in conference room . The gentleman who verified my documents was super super slow as compared to other two 😬 …but guess what later interview panel was not happy with verified documents done by other 2 panelists as they were not doing properly 😅…so we didn't have to get our documents verified again .PERSONAL INTERVIEW started earlier than GD-GT . I was 7–8th to be interviewed.I went inside at 12:50 PMwished them good afternoon and they asked me to sit .CHAIRMAN - How are u Rohit?ME - I am fine sir . How are u sir ?CHAIRMAN - i am good Rohit . Make urself comfortable (with a smile ).Ok Rohit , tell me something about Urself .ME - Told where I belong from . About my schooling . Then about my family (mother , father and sister ) then about graduation . Then about my co-curricular activities which I did during schooling and clg . And then preparation about Gate .CHAIRMAN - Why did you Gate preparation ? Why not optw for campus placement ?ME - Told that I sat for campus placement and got selected in Infosys and Tech Mahindra both .But as these were Computer companies I was not interested I didn't join . And from the beginning of clg I dreamed of joining PSU as officer .CHAIRMAN - Why not private companies and why PSU?ME - Answered .( He looked satisfied )CHAIRMAN - IOCL is also not core then why IOCL ?ME - Answered referring diversity of IOCL and also scope for civil engineers.CHAIRMAN - What new things IOCL is doing ?ME - AnsweredCHAIRMAN - Rohit which refinery of IOCL is nearest to Ur hometown ? What it is doing new to help to control pollution due to burning of Parali?ME- Answered but i didn't know detailsPASSED TO ANOTHER PANEL MEMBERCHAIRPERSON 1 - So Rohit Sharma , Do u know any other Rohit Sharma ?ME - Yes Sir . He is a great cricketer and opens for Indian cricket team .C1 - Do u know He is connected to IOCL ?ME- Yes sir (actually I came to know in morning presentation only😛)C1– So can we expect another Rohit Sharma for IOCL ?(Actually I had mentioned Cricket , Badminton , Chess and poem recitation in my areas of interest .That's why he was asking .)ME- (with a smile) not another Rohit sharma as I am more into playing Badminton and have represented my university also in it .C2– Do u know any famous badminton player associated with IOCL ?ME- Sir Pulela GopichandC2– Rohit u told about PSU's , so are there no challenges in PSU?(referring to my answer to C1)ME- Told that it is not possible to not have a challenge if a company wants to grow. And answer related to it and how IOCL is growing .(He didn't cross questioned so I think he was satisfied )Now C3 took charge for technicalsC3 - ( Reading my project name ) why black cotton soil is problematic soil ?ME- Told related to settlement , swelling , shrinkage .C3– What are the measures to handle it?ME- AnsweredC3– Asked about under-reamed piles and their functions etc?ME- AnsweredC3– What are ways to measure bearing capacity of soil?ME- AnsweredC3– Where is CBR test used mainly and how is it done?ME- AnsweredC3– Asked about problems in highway construction and to tell about cross section of road?ME - (By mistake I told longitudinal section😛🙈) so he asked I m talking about cross section . Then I answered cross section .C3– Have u visited nearby refinery ?ME- No sirAsked some more questions but I don't remember nowCHAIRMAN - Okay Rohit Ur interview is over , u can goI said them thankyou and came out .I was giving any interview after a long time and to be honest I was very nervous before this but I think it went very well and I was satisfied with it.Then we went for lunch and I was impressed by the arrangements and needless to say lunch was tasty 😋.Then we came to know that GD of 1 group was over and 2nd was going on and last group of 6 students was remaining .We were searching for other group candidates to know what topic they got so that we can speculate what could be ours topic😛We had to wait for a long time before our GD . It started at around 3:30 pm I think ( I m not sure)Our 2 topics out of which we had to choose 1Topic 1 - Death penalty for women criminals.Topic 2 - Indians are not quality conscious .We chose 2nd one because there was 1 female candidate in our group and the one who was examining us was also a lady . ( I didn't want to take risk of making it a debate rathar than group discussion therefore I chose 2nd and thankfully 4 out of 6 chose this only)2 minutes were given to think and note down our points on a page in both GD and GT.Group discussion went first class . It was a healthy discussion without making it a fish market .Next was Group TaskTopic was - YOU ALL HAVE BEEN APPOINTED AS A COMMITTEE BY PRINCIPAL OF SCHOOL TO TACKLE THE RISING MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES / DEPRESSION IN SCHOOL . SUGGEST MEASURES AS A TEAM .Again it was a very good discussion and all participated .Language was not a barrier .You can opt anything ( Hindi or English).After that we filled the feedback form in computer about the interview and then we were allowed to exit .It was a great experience and happily I was satisfied by my performance .Though I know as Gate score weightage is very high and therefore I had to perform exceptionally well in interviews to stand a chance . After interviews I feel I can hope😅. Let's see what happens .I will update answer after results .Before exit obviously we took some pics …I am attaching someALL THE BEST EVERYONE ✌🏻

CDS 1 2020 SSBAt 18 SSB allahabad .15th October 2020Our conferences had taken place and we all were waiting for the results . Then came an officer (Lt.Col in rank) and started giving a speech regarding how the ones who will not be recommended should not take this as rejection and all . After 5 mins of lecture he saidOFFICER - But I'm surprised by this blunder done by some students who have not even filled their correct UPSC Roll No's . Being graduate entries and at this age how can they even do things like this .( Every candidate was shocked and wanted to see who they were as all the aspirants even in their sleep would not forget their roll no as they had filled so many forms with mentioning their roll number in it )OFFICER - Chest No.1 stand up . ( He said angrily )He stood up and the officer asked him his roll number.Chest No 1 told him his correct roll numberOFFICER - This is right . Then why did you not fill in the right one . How can you be so careless while filling your form .He similarly asked the same from CHEST NO 5 ,8, and 11 and scolded them as well and asked for the roll no and they all told them their correct ones .OFFICER - Now you guyz are telling me the right ones then why couldn't you fill the right one's in the form .(All these had no answer to this and were quite amused as well as a bit tensed . They were just standing and listening to him dejectedly .)The Officer closed his file . Started moving and walked two steps and was standing almost next to the exit gate and said .OFFICER - Chill gentleman ! You guys are recommended .And the officer went out of the room . These guys were shocked and didn't know how to react and just started jumping with happiness .Our happiness (I was chest No.8) had no bounds .We were very happy at that moment . After some time we called our parents and they were more happy to hear about our recommendation. That feeling was surreal and still fills me with happiness :’)

Sorry for late update .Was busy preparing for prelims.My interview score- 149/275Possible reasons for low score:-1. Might not have answered upto the expectations of the board.2.Could not answer some basic questions.3. May have committed some unknown major blunder.My marksheet:Update ends.My civil services interview was on 31st March 2017About my journey so far:- 3 attempts ( this was my 1st mains and interview)Board :- PK Joshi sir(very soft spoken and coordial board- being frank)Before interview startedDuring document verification in Room 1- I was very nervous.. my hands and feet were numb( giving that Cheetiii chalne wali feeling \U0001f60a). Had a chocolate and offered it to 2 fellow aspirants sitting around--you will later know why I mentioned this.During waiting in Room 2(before entry to final board room) - I was all numb with heart beating faster----had a few sips of red bull offered by a fellow aspirant. Finally I was asked to proceed to the board room(heart beating fastest)Before entry to board Room (waiting outside on a chair for the final lap) prepared myself mentally to face the board by following-1. developed a perception that I will be going to interact with my own family ( assigned characters to board members like female member as mother, chairman as father etc). This helped to interact freely.2. If I do not open my true self I will regret later3. Even if I fail I will not lose my life I will stand firm again.morever I also have a job(capf) at hand so don't worry.4. Did breathing exercises ( udgit pranayam- chanting OM ),recalled about swami Vivekananda, the bajaj invincible indians(medicine baba,glacier man,patriotism etc..This generated emotions…diverted my mind and calmed me downMY INTERVIEWMe-May I come in sir..He said yes..Entered wished everyone..Asked to sit..Said thankyou.Cm-you are selected in capf. Have you joined?Me-no sir. My joining has not yet come.Cm- we hear a lot about police.these are part of centre or state?Me- sir police is a state subjectCm- then what about capf(central armed police forces)Me- sir these are central services and centre deploys them only when a severe law and order situation arises in states .Cm- you have geography as optional.tell me about the flora of Gondwana land.(this question left me awestruck but I kept a smile on my face.thought for a few seconds)Me-sir since India forms a major part of Gondwana land therefore it has huge significance. In ecological terms it acts as a carbon sink, in economic terms it is a source of revenue and thirdly it is forms a hotspot which is an abode to wildlife( could not think any better at that moment)Cm- tell me about indian plate?Me- sir originally indian plate was a part of Gondwana land. At present it is subsiding beneath the Eurasian plate at a very slow rate. The Himalayan formation is a result of this subsidence.Cm- tell me about winter rains?Me- sir winter rains in northern India are caused due to western disturbances which originate in the Mediterranean sea. These cause snowfall in Himalayas and rain in northern part of India. Also winter rains take place in Tamil nadu due to retreating monsoon winds which pick mosture from bay of Bengal and rain in Tamil nadu.Cm- why monsoon reaches in Himalayas so late?Me- sir monsoon is caused due to south west winds which travel from south India to central India to North India and Himalayas. So they reach late and with less moisture which also causes less rain in western part of Himalayas.Passed to lady member(M1)M1 - you have written real life problem solving as your interest ( a smile came on my face..She too smiled)..What is this?Me - ma'am it is a simple approach in which I make use of my head, heart and hands to deal with day to day problems.M1 - you solve your own personal problems?Me - ma'am not only I make efforts to deal with my problems but also those which i come across in my sorroundings.( A member interrupted and asked to speak louder)M1 - tell me a recent problem that you have solved ?Me- mam today a female aspirant was sitting alongside me ,she told me that she was very nervous and feeling numb since it was her first attempt. I gave her a pleasant smile took a chocolate out of my bag and said every mother says that we should have something sweet before going for a special moment and offered her that chocolate( Cadbury ad- shubh Kam se pehle meetha ho jaye- that struck my mind-- I mentioned about the chocolate incident in starting.. ). She smiled and calmed down gradually as our conversation progressed. Finally thanked me. ( Madam gave a big smile..Others smiled with heads down)M1 - No tell me some big problem.have you solved any problem in a village since you come from a village.Me - sorry mam but I come from a city.( Cm and members said that yes yes he is from a city)M1– ok tell me the problems of your city?Me- ma'am there are mainly civic problems- encroachment on roads and drainage relatedM1-how will you solve them?Me- ma'am encroachment can be solved mainly by effective policing and strict implementation of law and order.M1–who are these encroachers?Me- ma'am they are the shopkeepers within city and automobile repair shops on highway(NH 2) which causes huge traffic jamM1-and the drainage problem?Me- ma'am that can be solved by cleaning the drains before rains,rain water harvesting,planned construction of drainage system with regular civic audits.Another member takes over(M2)M2 - I will give you a hypothetical situation.solve it. Sudden over night influx of madhesis from Nepal in up/Bihar. Being dm of a border district how will you handle it?Me- sir for the short term I will announce a security alert to prevent any clashes and conflicts,further I will make efforts to contact Nepalese government to ensure a dialogue and peaceful settlement of the issue.M2 - what else for short( was not convinced)Me- sir since madhesis have historical ties with India so I will make efforts to provide temporary relief by making make shift tents.M2 - yes and won't you provide them food,medical aid etcMe- yes sir. All possible efforts will be made to ensure short term relief. Thankyou sir for this value addition.M2-do you know Gps..How it works?Me-sir I know the basic concept. It works on the concept of trilateration.. Interrupts.M2 - yes I see.you know the basics.tell me if gps is there why do we need irnss.Me- sir the most important reason is startegic . In the past during Kargil war U.S denied us access to Gps info. So irnss will give us strategic independence for future. Further civilian and defence requirements will be metM2– do you have any proof to establish the fact that US denied us Gps access.?Me- sorry sir I read it in newspapers but I do not have any thing substantive to prove this.M2 - what will be the problems if we switch from gps to irnss?Me- sir irnss will have a limited reach.It will function only in India and its limited surroundings.M2 - yes but what will be the problem when we switch over to irnss?Me- sir there will be technical problems.M2– be specific.Me- sorry sir I am unable to think of any further reason at this moment.M2 - yes I can understand. ( Did not know how to react..So kept a pleasant smile on my face without giving any reaction)Passes to M3M3 -gave a long talk on led and finally asked….What is led?Me- sir it is a semiconductor device which generates light when electric current passes through it.M3 - yes yes..But that is a general description..Me- sorry sir I am unable to recall about the technical working.M3-do you know what is a diode?Me - sir it is a semiconductor device which allows current to pass in only one direction.M3.- yes.
