I think that is an overly grumpy statement to make. Java is an accumulation of 20+ years of design decisions period. Certainly, there were some decisions that were good, some decisions that seemed good at the time, and, of course, some decisions that weren’t all that great to begin with, but went through anyway, because there was some trade-off to be made.Could things be made better if Java was to be redesigned from scratch? Absolutely, because hindsight is 20–20. I think everyone would agree that checked exceptions look good only on paper. I think everyone would agree that type erasure generics are annoying but were unavoidable due to how collections were handled prior to Java 5. And, of course, everyone would agree that a huge portion of the standard library that comes from old Java versions is pure unadulterated garbage — but it’s easy for us to say after decades of research put into good domain design principles.I definitely agree that Java needs some revamping, similar to the transition between Python 2 and 3, but I really don’t think that the situation is as bad as people paint it to be. Worst case, there is always a choice of other JVM languages one can use, such as Groovy, Kotlin, or Scala.

Very unpopular opinion: GATE and ESE are very different exams no matter what people say. People may say that prepare for ESE you will automatically crack GATE easily. Some super intellectuals may even suggest vice-versa. But it doesn't work that way.So how does it work?Let me explain using something which every Indian understands- Cricket.GATE is 20–20 cricket whereas ESE is Test cricket. This statement is already enough to explain a lot of things.Both are indeed cricket. You must know the technicalities how to time the ball, how to play square cut, how to defend, how to bowl inswinger out-swinger etc. but do you think that a better test player will be a better 20–20 player or vice versa?A BIG BIG NO!For both the exams, your basics need to be rock solid. No doubt.GATE is a 3 hour show. All your year long hard work is defined by those 3 hours. You will have to play unconventional shots, take risky runs. Smart people work with options even though they might not know the answer. You need mental toughness to deal with dynamic nature of the game. You don't get the chance to rectify your mistake. One mistake can bring down your rank by a 1000. One maiden over will cost you dearly till the game is over!On the other hand, ESE is a game of patience, of balance between the innings. If you screw up in Prelims, you have to excel in Mains, no other option! It's a sheer test of your technical knowledge. We don't play unorthodox shots here. Everything is by the books. Step by step you clear each and every stage and the process is long. It is all about being resilient and keeping your calm till the end.So dear friend, though the technical syllabus is the same, both require a different temperament altogether.
