33 SSB Bhopal, Best ever 12 days , the experience was amazing. I am a Developer in a software firm in Bangalore. Previously failed at 2 SSB, One back in 2012 for NDA at Allahabad , and other for TGC in 2016 (8th Semester).Both times Screened out.2012—I was naive , not confident even though I had framed a good story, but the delivery was dull, no energy, nervousness.2016—Knew my past mistakes ,worked on my oratory skills, practised pictures, But went with preconceived narration/story, and hence Screened out.2017—I had no plans to give more SSBs as the fear of rejection(SCREEN OUT)was there.Now One Day at office I filled the form for SSC Army Tech and SCC Navy GS(X).Firstly the SSB For Army came at Bhopal , I was out of leave as recently I have gone home for my Mom and Dad’s 25 Marriage Anniversary.But at last moment I decided to go ,booked a Tatkal,But Transaction failed(Harshit Airi u might know this).So all plans in vain.Few Days After, I got Call letter for SSB SSB INTERVIEW SSC {GS(X)} – JAN 2018 COURSE IN THE NAVY. I had to report on 15 June 2017(1400 hours).Now this time I decided I need to give a last shot. I will give my best, all what I have. I will not commit mistakes that I did in my past 2 SSBs.But the big Question was How will I start my Prep and what all things I need to do. I started with Basics Story Practising ..(AFOSOP videos are the best , they changed my view to interpret the picture and its sorroundings) and the main hurdle was narration. I picked Chadda(One of my roomies), I used to keep bugging him, making him listen to all of my narration and asked him to give honest review. He was also involved in my SRT, WAT and Command Task(Only Discussions).I used to irritate him calling him as Commander and asking tough SRT (most of the times my imagination) to put him in tough situation.I even had a small conversation with Col. M.M Nehru(as I read his answers on Quora). I explained him about my weaknesses (narration), but he told that while conversing on phone I seem to be quite Ok. He said your Oratory skills Seems to be satisfactory, dont stress too much .So Now the time was to leave Bangalore telling your Manager that I will be coming in a week (Even I had booked both the tickets in case I was screened out or conference out.)The long Journey to Bhopal without telling your parents ,but couldn't hide it for too long ,they both scolded me first (for not telling them)but then wished me good luck for SSB.Train Journey was boring , most of the times I was in introspection mode(working on my PIQ …hobbies..my achievements)14 June 2017—Reached Bhopal..got to know about farmer’s strike ..some MSP issue ..Managed to get a Hotel Nearby Station (Don’t get fooled by cheeky talks of auto whale bhaiya..aao Sir SSB dene aye ho…Saste or best room).Please take a walk and you find hotels nearby.15 June 2017— Had a mild fever ..took pill..called MOM ..then left for Railway Station near to 12 afternoon. Firstly I didn't indulge with any talks to the fellow SSB mates at station.But I couldn't resist, I made bunch of friends there only.By 1430 hours, Bus Came and we lined up..holding call letters in hand..few proactive buddies helped to load luggage while rest to occupy window seats.But me and few lethargic who didn't mind about getting into bus didn't get any seats..and were asked to come by auto.Me and other 2 guys (X and Y)booked auto for Sultania Infantry. Me and X took some printouts and Also we both didn't had proper documents.I was having all mark sheets (all 4 years) but no degree not even provisional degree as my college was in Nainital and I was working in Bangalore, also Mr X was from VIT Vellore so all documents in college not even 12 mark sheet.We reached ..nostagic feeling of last year….got room ..me Mr. X ,Y and Z became roomies.Now during Documentation I was questioned about my degree and JCO (Mr. XXX)started scolding me and asked me to leave . I was struck , but then other JCO he was Sardarji he checked all my year mark sheet and said I am allowing you , but do arrange provisional in case you are screened in and submit it to Mr. XXX.I was given chest no 52. I was relieved but was worried for my friend Mr. X , He was also asked to leave but somehow , after orientation and briefing in the auditorium , I got to know he was allowed. We both were happy . We had snacks outside Audi..and straight went for Dinner ..Reached back room ..had small interaction Mr Y was from Bangalore..and Mr Z was from Bhopal. We planned to sleep early so as to wake early. Some how I managed to sleep as I was anxious about Screening.Day 1. Woke up.. all mates rushing in and out .. Lined for taking shower..all 4 roomies dressed up nicely.. I had a moustache as I dont do clean shave.Briefing about 2 OIR TEST -Basic Maths and Reasoning ,Quite satisfied with my attempts …Then came Story..framed well within timeFor Narration me Mr. X and Mr. Y were in same group, narrated the story pretty well and even took part in discussion..Here Mr X framed amazing love story I never thought that can also be a case.Now Time for results.. I was not sure about my screening ,,to my surprise Mr. X chest no was called and so on other numbers were called ..and mine was surpassed…(52)… I lost all hopes..but all of my surprise Chest number 52 was called . I Could not believe, I was damn happy, as I was screened for first time.Now I can taste the 5 day flavour of SSB. Mr. Y was also screened in and Mr. Z screened out. 31 candidates were screened in out of 206Got Chest number 28Day 2. I was prepared for psych test , Be it SRT WAT or TAT..I did pretty well in TAT and in SD I framed real story my friend Ankit who Got PSU after good rank in Gate , he had tough time in college though.I had my interview scheduled at 12 afternoon .. I was not expecting that … and I didn't prepare about Navy anything as other mates were talking about Destroyers, SubMarines , Frigattes,, I had no clue…Interview:- The Vice-President of the Board took my interview..he had amazing personality..he made me comfortable…and asked basic introduction…bugged me with questions regarding school friends teachers and college,,, my achievements about my family …my office life ..my earning my saving my spendings …about my company,,,,data analytics..machine learning…artificial intelligence..and the main question why do you want to join Indian Navy?I told ,my Dad is in paramilitary force and I live in Dehradun(seen IMA cadets). I have always dreamt of olive green and those 3 Stars .Lakshya was my favourite movie and uniform was one thing that I always wanted. I even had collected paper cuttings of Kargil war Heroes..Captain Vikram Batra..my hero to whom I look upto..also the responsibility and the opportunity that uniform gives … also my native village is up in the hills and being an officer others would also be motivated to join and serve our nation.(I gave simple and true answer) interview stretched till 60min.and to my surprise he didn't ask a single question about Navy.just at the end he asked do you know in case you get selected where will you head to. I answered with smile on my face INA Ezhimala. I was satisfied with my interview.Going back to room Mr. X was chilling out ..curious to know what happened also Mr Y and Mr. Z*(new roomie from Gujrat.) I told them what happened.After that in afternoon , I Mr. X and Mr. Y (Mr. Z* had interview) went out for food and watched movie HINDI MEDIUM..didnt expected the movie to be that good..reached Centre late but fine no issues..Mr X and I were also talking about girls in the Mess but the Mess Warden was watching us smiling and he shouted chest no 18 and 28 ,,Dont Talk ..finish your food.Day 3. GTO day 1Slept late on Day 2 …discussions in every rooms ,,,morning …ready in GTO attire…gathered up…running …reached the Ground …GTO was bit strict..no expressions and lil old officer..briefed about the tasksStarted with GD..we had 2 discussions ..1 topic was India USA relations…all were speaking up…it was like total mess…still I managed to speak and gave 3–4 good pointsother was Farmers issue —-as It was Strike in Bhopal …raised MSP issue…technology into faming …overall it was average performance.PGT and HGT —I performed very bad ,,even others in my group didn't do well…GTO was really pissed off..Someone tied the rope so tightly that I was not able to open the knot(being honest)GOR—-It was the best thing.. I am 6′1 so I was at last helping my friends to climb the walls …you would laugh but my group left me at the second wall I was then asked to climb with rope by GTo..which I failed to do so..then he asked me to go by side the wall and join my group…. I felt bad and embarrassed at that point…but I helped my team in that net and we finished the race.LECTURETTETO be honest I was nervous …much after that wall incident…My topic was Rise of China In South Asia. I was very happy with the topic …I delivered nicely…from pearl of strings..to Pakistan economic corridor..Gwadar port…and India’s counter strategies like Chabhar Port….so it went pretty wellALSO went out to eat ..this time we went to Dominos….parcelled it and went to jain temple and over that plateau had a nice lake view with hot Pizza..and all buddies ,,,had a good time ,,,but sadly no phones ,,,so no picturesDay 4Started with Individual Task … nailed it did all 10 …got some scars will coming down of the rope…had to do Tarzan swing twice.Command TaskSince I didn't do pretty well in PGT and HGT , I wanted to perform it nicely….GTO asked about my parents both my parents are working….about my moustache….about my Office…about my Manager ..Does he keeps Moustache….(funny question)…we even discussed about …surprisingly he didn't knew about Quora….I called Mr. Macho(chest 28) and chest no 30 ..we did it swiftly,, Also 6 out of 9 had asked me to be their subordinates, may be because I was interacting to every other in my group during breaks and back in dorms also.GPE I was all my ears during group planning exercise..I made a nice feasible plan..narrated pretty well to my friends and discussed actively…to my surprise I was appointed by my group to deliver the Group planning exercise…which I did but not that great (could have been done much better …lil nervousness)We Went back …me and Mr. X went to cyber room to call our parents to arrange for the documents as Mr.XXX (JCO)asked us to do so…But here also found some girls ..this time we were frustrated as they were not ready to leave the phones(sharing every day happening to their parents).Mr X and me played Table Tennis for hours also we saw INDIA VS PAKISTAN Champions Trophy match where India Lost, all were cursing Jadeja.At night— In dugouts, chest 27(Shreyansh) the kiddo guy jumping here and there making lame jokes…also Chest no 10 recommended both ARMY and AirForce sharing his SSB experience ,,but I and my roomies were busy chatting within ourselves here Mr. Z* and Mr Y were very enlightening ,,giving gyaan.Day 5 ConferenceI shaved ..no more moustache…dressed properly …also I asked my dad to book a a flight for me to bangalore from Indrore (as I was not thinking that I will get recommended..and need to reach office …cant afford to go by train …lack of leaves)..We were briefed …one one candidate were going inside after the bell …before me chest no 29 went….he came quickly…next was my turn… I was sitting on chair waiting the bell to ring…but no bell even after 5 min …I was lil panicking …heartbeats increasing.I was sweating whether I missed the bell..then I asked the NCO Thapa Ji..did I missed it..he said dont worry…then it was 10 min..I was called on 17 min…. I went towards room…as soon as I opened all men in White navy uniform with Vice President of Board Heading the conference…He asked about my stay at Centre…and my experience… I told him that 6 days back I was sitting at my desk in office..coming here to SSB following the morning early routine…making new friends and the best part was experiencing the flavour of SSB… I learned a lot and I am happy I could make this far..I will cherish them for rest of my life..He then asked did I go outside..I told went out for movie…he smiled and asked which one…I told Hindi Medium..also told about jain templeThen he asked if had to give 2 names in my group who should get recommended I thought a bit and answered chest27 and chest 30..in a fraction of second .he questioned ..why didn't I took my name….I thought yaaa he is saying correct only…was clean bold.. But I told him See Sir I have not seen their Pysch Test to interview..I know their performance through GTO where they have performed outstandingly…way better than me specifically In PGT HGT FGT and GOR ..even My GTO sir would now this….So it would be unfair on my part to say my name before theirs.Lastly he asked any Suggestions…I gave that TT table should bw maintained as its board has lots of dust and board is losing its essence…so he asked how he manage to play… I told me and MR.X cleaned with paper and then played…(also Mr X in his conference gave the same suggestion(Though it was not planned)).Time for. ResultsPysch officer came in Navy Dress ..he looked Dapper…he was telling the same things ..like those who doesn't get selected its not he end…but I was not listening to it .. I ws worried about my flight from Indore…me and Chest no 28(Mr. Macho) were discussing about the bus from Bhopal to Indore ….then he started to call the Chest No ‘s He called 1,,,,,,,then 2,,,,,,then 18 and then Chest no 24 I could not believe to my ears …I stood up and spelled up my name …and went front ..MrMacho chest no 28 was looking at me and smiling (saying asshole to me) and also he called Chest no 11.Also Mr. X was also recommended , he was the only HYDRO entry guy among all GS(X)So we 5 were recommended ,we went to meet the Vice President of the Board, The Best part he remembered my name,,,and asked Priyanshu will you go to office or join medicals …and told that I can do medicals with 15 days of recommendation . I told him that I will go for medicals now only..We came down…we got our phones back..I called my dad first and asked him to cancel my flight …he was shouting at me ..are you mad …yesterday you asked to book 12k flight now want to cancel it….Then I told BABA main recommended ho gya then he didn't even say anything..like he said okay shabash Shaam ko baat krte h..then to my mom…she was so happy…..we went back took our bags and went to candidate Line and got our new medical chest no9Here we all 5 recommended candidates even Mr X is there ..you guys guess who is Mr. X in the comments..It will be funYaa Unfortunately I was medically Unfit and even after 42 days I was declared medically unfit.I will share the medical story some other time.Though MR. X has joined the Indian Naval Academy Ezhimala. So on whole experience was amazing , will cherish all my life. THAT IS THE BEST FEELING EVER! NO DRUG , NO LOVE CAN OVER COME IT!i have made my parents proud many times be it,academics, getting placed or doing jobSHIT!! I BET MY PARENTS WHERE MORE PROUD TO HERE ME TELL THAT I CLEARED SSB! AND THAT I WILL BE JOINING INDIAN NAVYall struggles you had to make! the dreams you dreamt during class ! the mock salutes you did infront of mirror!the mock march you did in your house when nobody was around! the sketches you made of an officer with name saying - lt.Priyanshu Kaintura :P all these flash through your mind! and you know you are just a few steps away from going to live a life which many dream of!MEDICAL PROCEDURE STARTS………………….and after 5 days! you get some reasons for you being unfit temporarily! you ask yourself! why the fuck are they rejecting people medically and for something which u never had or never heard of! :Dstill . your mind is dreaming of the life in academy! the adventure! the thrill!you will go back to your home! and what you get is a heroes welcome! your parents are really proud! your neighbours dont know for what you have been selected , they just spread that you are going to join navy and it spreads like wild fire!you are still calm, that you will clear those medical rejections in appeal boards! and you start working on clearing them , consult doctors! , read blogs medical blogs :D, you do all you can , you are trying soohard!you father contacts all his friends and gets information about what to do in appeal boards!your mother is doing all her pooja 2x ,slowly you start to worryy!! will i go to academy!? why is god doing this to me?! why couldnt i be fit?!will i be ever able to clear the appeal boards?!what will happen to your dreams!?and slowly you start being positive , consoling yourself, trying to be strong. at the end that was the reason you where selected by one of the scrutinious selection procedure in India!you go to your appeal medical boards! you console yourself , whatever may happen today , you will join the army be it today or the next day or the day after! but at the deepest corners of your heart you know that it will hurt! it will break you! dreams shattered if you dont make it today !so being brave, you start clearing one rejection after anotherfinally today ! you have1 last rejection to clear,happy+nervous+anxiety+bittertruth+excitement+confidence+sadnessthats all i experienced just before my name was called as i went inside the cabin where a colonel ranked doctor was sitting and checking my file!i remembered my mother! maybe she was doing her pooja 10x today! my father was waiting outside the hospital !tick tock tick tock! lub dub lub dub! doctor checked me, i was looking at him eagerly! and then he said!“ PRIYANSHU , UMM!
