Can students date their college professors?

Faculty/undergrad relationships within a department are so reliably toxic that they’re now banned outright at the universities I attended (and many others where I didn’t who have policies that are easier to google). Here’s a representative approach from Vanderbilt’s (not one I attended) faculty handbook:Consensual sexual relationships are prohibited between a student and any faculty member, teaching assistant, or administrative staff member who teaches, supervises, evaluates, or otherwise is in a position to exercise power or authority over that student. Efforts by members of the faculty, teaching assistants, or administrative staff members to initiate these relationships are also prohibited. If a prohibited relationship arises, effective steps must be taken to ensure unbiased evaluation or supervision of the student. Violation of this policy may be grounds for discipline….Consensual sexual relationships between a student and any faculty member, teaching assistant, or administrative staff member who is not in a position to exercise direct power or authority over that student (e.g., when the student is in a different school or department) may also be inappropriate because of a perception of power or influence. Any faculty member, teaching assistant, or administrative staff member who engages in such a relationship must accept responsibility for assuring that it does not result in a conflict of interest or raise other issues of professional ethics. In cases of doubt, advice and counsel should be sought from the Dean, department chair, or administrative supervisor.Chapter 7: Consensual RelationshipsHere’s UPenn’s policy (also didn’t attend):The relationship between faculty[1] and student is central to the academic mission of the University. No non-academic or personal ties should be allowed to interfere with the integrity of the faculty-student relationship. Consensual sexual relations between faculty and student can adversely affect the academic enterprise, distorting judgments, or appearing to do so to others, and providing incentives or disincentives for student-faculty contact that are inappropriate. For these reasons, any sexual relations or dating relationships between a faculty member and an undergraduate student enrolled at the University are prohibited. The prohibition extends to all academic advisors and program directors, including those based in the College Houses and other University-owned or administered housing. The prohibition also extends to graduate, professional, or undergraduate student assistants, but, in their case, only with respect to those undergraduate students over whom they have academic responsibility.[2]Although this policy does not categorically prohibit consensual sexual relations or dating relationships between faculty and graduate or professional students, the University strongly discourages all sexual relations or dating relationships between faculty and graduate or professional students.Furthermore, sexual relations or dating relationships between a faculty member and a graduate or professional student during the period of the faculty/student relationship are prohibited. The prohibition extends to sexual relations or dating between a graduate or professional student and other students for whom they have some supervisory academic responsibility, between department chairs and students in that department, and between graduate group chairs and students in that graduate group. Likewise, sexual relations and dating relationships are prohibited between a graduate or professional student and academic advisors, program directors, and all others who have any supervisory responsibility for that student.VI.F. What is it like to study Mathematics at Cambridge?

K0A2A @Emma WatsonThe philosophy of the University of Cambridge can be summed up in one sentence: “Think outside the box”.Memorization does not serve to pass exams. It is the analytical capacity of the student and his own research that is valued. Enhancing critical thinking is present from the admission tests to the university."If you are brilliant, enthusiastic and have academic talent, Cambridge could be for you".The exams are the basis for almost all qualifications. The exams are the basis for almost all qualifications. These exams are carried out in three or four jobs that take place two days a year.Supervision is key to mathematics. In the first year, two a week, theory and practice. The conferences, from Monday to Saturday, are another point to consider. Punctuality is essential, such as attendance at these conferences. You should read the texts beforehand and be efficient in taking notes. Practice a lot in spare time, pose and solve problems for yourself and concentrate on the subject. These steps are a fundamental requirement to overcome the grade. If you carry out all this, you will surely overcome all the inconveniences.Do not forget that 92 Nobel prizes have come out of Cambridge.99% of Cambridge students graduate, of which 91% find work in the six months after graduation."The study is very intense, you have to deliver two or three trials per week. That's one of the things that they look at in the interview, they're not just looking for geniuses, but hardworking people who can hold that rhythm.”The so-called personal statement, a writing of about two pages in which the applicant explains why he wants to study that career in Cambridge is another crucial point. "You do not just have to be good, they want to know you're passionate and that's also to be demonstrated in the interview.”Another important issue. Students are prohibited from working. The system is designed to focus on the study.During the whole career they are assigned a director of studies that helps them choose the subjects and advises them in their career. The figure of the supervisor is another of the distinctions, a teacher who meets with groups of four students after each master class to resolve their doubts and deepen the subject.Nobody is left behind. It is a method based on personalized teaching and if any problem appears it is detected very early and action is taken.Another of its peculiarities is its evaluation system. The students play everything in the final exams, in which they do not put their name and identify themselves with a number. The cost of registration is 9,000 pounds per year. To this we must add another 8,500 to cover the costs of the college - all students are required to reside in one - and the maintenance. The best thing about studying here is that everything is focused on the student.Greetings and good luck.

What is the workload like in the IB? How much free time does a student have?

It is a well-known fact that IB is a rigorous course, but I think still many people under-appreciate just how insane the workload of the IB is.To start off, one has to study not only the core 6 subjects (Maths, sciences, language etc.), but also a mandatory course called TOK (theory of knowledge), an epistemology course.Out of these subjects, 3 or 4 of them will be at Higher Level, so the workload will be comparable to A-levels or AP. Not only does one do daily HW, weekly quizzes and presentations, but also has to finish an IA(individual assessment) for each subject.IAs are 1500–2000 word individual research paper written on any topic of our choice from the subject, meeting all the criteria of the IB, while studying for other subjects. Roughly, it should take a student between 5–10 hours in total to come up with a solid first draft, and extra 1–2 hours for revisions and polishing before submitting it to your teacher and later to IB for evaluation.Along with IAs, there is the EE(extended essay). It is a 4000 word research paper written by the student with little/no help help from their supervisors written on any topic the student desires and must fit all the criterias of the IB. It takes around 20–25 hours to finish a solid draft, and extra time for revisions and polishing. On top of all these academic workload, IB requires students to be active in extra-curricular activities to fulfill their CAS(creativity, action, service) criteria. To do that one needs to spend at least 30 hours per semester on 1 sports, 1 club and 1 activity(like speech, debate, quiz competitions etc). Mind you, you also have a thing called CAS Project where you need to create/organise an event which should have kept you busy for a month or so.And all of these are done while you are finishing up college applications, studying for standardised tests and preparing for the finals. So, yeah IB’s workload is insanely high but it is manageable if you are dedicated, resourceful and consistent. By working so hard for IB, one becomes fully prepared for the upcoming college experience. Best of luck for your IB experience!

I've used a lot of PDF editors, but this is the first one I've found that's easy to use, has all the features I need (even the free version) AND I don't have to download it which is a plus. I stumbled upon the software when I was looking for a PDF editor that would allow me to add links to a PDF. Initially, I just needed it for a one-time project, but I loved it so much that I've decided to use it as my primary editor.
