Go for Santa Clara UniversitySCU has much better graduation rate than UH (84% vs 48%). And, SCU graduates earn more after graduation. The class size and teacher ton student ration is less in SCU so you can have better interaction with your professors. The only, con that I find for SCU is its high tuition fee but if its affordable for you, don’t have second thought on joining SCU.California is also a better state than Texas in terms of climate and crime rate.

University of Washington in Seattle has a top 10 computer science vs MIT top 1 or 2 , and a top football program. What is bad for locals is that it is now on the radar worldwide as an alternative to Asians (mostly eastern but increasingly the south Indian kind) who have given up on trying to get into University of California system. Not quite Berkeley or Stanford but closest thing in Washington State though there are a couple of small liberal arts colleges that brag about being as good as Harvard.Downside is that it is becoming so selective, some very good students can’t get in, and if you do get in, only half of people who want to major in computer science can get into the department after 2nd year. One kid wanted to get into medical but switched and worked his way into CS after getting some professors to know him, and recruiting fair is probably as good or better than MIT, he got internship at Intel just by dropping off a resume. Seattle University up the hill from downtown probably has 2nd best CS in town but shame most tech recruiters don’t go there and then wonder why they can’t find any good new graduates.I know Asian families who moved from Texas and Kansas just to get their kids into UW and consider it a big win if their kid got in, in the 70s, growing up in Boeing suburb of Renton, if the UW was the best school you could do, it was a great shame to your family (culturally American families too) if you did not get into MIT or Stanford (well it still is for some families, but other Asians have wised up to realistic expectations)We moved to SE Minnesota, U Wisconsin Madison has best reputation nearby but U Minn Twin Cities has a very good if not top 15 ranked computer science, it’s nearly as hard (less than 10%) to get into engineering program, and recruiters from both coasts recruit the graduates, it’s also a great deal for out of state students. And it’s not yet been taken over by Asians and foreign students though some have finally discovered the midwest. MPLS never had a big historical Asian population until the influx of Hmong refugees, and has a decent African American population but not any one big neighborhood. Minneapolis votes like a liberal coastal city though surrounded by conservative farmers. I have nephew who got great internship which led to job in CS at Macalester, and they have money for scholarships if your parents make less than $70,000One of my sons went to Santa Clara University in Santa Clara in Northern California which isn’t hard to get into with a 94th percentile SAT, and they let him directly into the computer science department. It’s just down Silicon Valley from Stanford which I knew about because I played in the symphony when I was working there, and it looks like a small scale model of Stanford probably because Stanford was styled like the spanish mission which Santa Clara was the original of. I read about wiz kid John Judnich in the college magazine who came up with 3D tank games for the PC and iPhone when MIT and Stanford apparently turned him down but SCU admitted him and gave him the same sort of jobs a graduate student would normally get, and he was nice enough to send me code now on github that got running on an Ipad.
