PDF Editor FAQ

Is it illegal to hit a girl?

Hitting a girl, or any person, in America is called “battery” under the law and is illegal. Threatening to hit someone is called “assault,” and is also illegal. There are exceptions. Boxing is not illegal. Consensual hitting is not illegal. Karate sparring is not illegal. But, generally speaking, you won't be taken to court for those. If you and a girl intend to hit each other, or one of you intends to hit the other, make sure everything is consensual (like a boxing waiver) or it will be illegal and you could go to jail.Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer. What happens if you become underweight during Marine boot camp?

I'll answer for any females that might come across this question. If you're 2–3 lbs underweight at MEPS, they'll get you a waiver (and if you're under the underweight minimum like I was, you gotta down a bunch of Ensures, gain some lbs, and then get an underweight waiver) and send you off. Once you get there, your senior DI will put you on, but we don't have tags. You have to tell the lunch lady you're double rations each time, or else you'll get the same portions as everyone else. You won't be a cooler recruit, which is a good thing. I was a cooler recruit with the heaviest cooler to carry for a while but eventually my senior took me off. It wasn't too bad, but getting harassed in the kitchen gets old quick. And if you get boxed chow, you get two! Depending on how fast your metabolism is, you'll be kept on double rations even if you get to above the minimum weight. I got up to 117. My minimum is 110 but my senior kept me on because the weight would fall right off in a matter of days, which it did. Lost it all over boot leave. Back at underweight status lol.

My article was accepted for publication, but I could not afford the publication fee. Should I just resubmit to another journal or do I need some form of official widrawal from the first journal?

First, when you submitted the paper, there should have been a form that you signed or a box to tick indicating that you understood that there was a publication fee for accepted papers and were either ready to pay it or eligible for a fee waiver. If there wasn’t, as Linda McPhee has said, you may have fallen victim to a predatory journal, in which case, it may be harder to withdraw than you would hope. Some such journals demand a fee to withdraw a paper and will even maliciously publish a paper that the author has tried to withdraw to prevent the author from publishing it elsewhere until their fee has been paid. However, let’s assume that this is a respectable journal and you either overlooked the fee or submitted in the expectation that you would be able to find the money if the paper was accepted, but it didn’t pan out. That can happen. The first thing to do is to ask the editor if a fee waiver may be possible. Most respectable journals have a limited number of fee waivers that they can give out. Usually, these are reserved for good papers from less-developed countries, papers by students and/or invited papers from distinguished researchers that will help boost the profile of the journal, however the editor often has some discretion about how they are used. You might be lucky. If you can’t get a fee waiver, then yes, you must formally withdraw the paper and ideally receive acknowledgement of the withdrawal before submitting the paper elsewhere. Be apologetic, because you have wasted the editor’s time and that of reviewers, too.If the journal is part of a larger publishing house that supports this and the editor is understanding rather than annoyed, there is a small chance that they will be able to transfer the paper, with the completed reviews, to another journal of that publisher that does not charge publication fees. In this case, it won’t automatically be accepted, but the completed reviews could expedite a decision.

Comments from Our Customers

I like the way that you can convert from any file to any other file easily and simply using (CocoDoc.com). I also like the ability of uploading the files that you want to convert from Google drive or Dropbox, and also saving the converted file to one of them instead of downloading them first. That's because of my work requirements as I'm required to upload the files I write to Google Drive, and that is after converting the file to a PDF if it's a .docx (word) file.
