For example, my professional fee starts from CAD 2000 for Express Entry based PR applications. If you your application is through a provincial nomination stream, you may need to pay provincial nomination application fee to the provincial immigration department which can be anything between CAD 0 to 1500 depending upon the province.Apart from the costs you incur, you also need to show some proof of funds.Settlement Fund- You need to have $24,083 as readily available savings. Is living in a motel cheaper than renting an apartment?
Is living in a motel cheaper than renting an apartment?Maybe. It depends on prices where you live.Last year, my son moved into a weekly motel temporarily. He paid $225/week. That included furniture (but no furnishings) and utilities. That comes out to $975/month for a studio apartment with basic utilities (no cable/internet). He had to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars on furnishings (bedding, pots and pans, a vacuum, etc). The motel was not in a nice part of town. It was inhabited by people who couldn’t rent apartments or houses, who didn’t want to be tied into a lease, etc. The police were there multiple times a day.A studio apartment in the next neighborhood over (which was a fairly nice area) is $600/month. A one-bedroom is $650. But that doesn’t include any utilities at all. But even if utilities run $100/month, it’s still cheaper. But here’s the thing - my son couldn’t AFFORD to rent an apartment because of the necessary deposits. That $600 studio ALSO required first and last month’s rents ($1,200) plus a $50 key deposit plus a $60 non-refundable application fee. That means he’d have had to come up with over $1300 just to move in. And then there would be the utility deposits, which can easily run into the hundreds of dollars. He only needed the $225 to move into the weekly unit. When he was looking for a regular apartment, we found the application fees ran anywhere from $60 to $150 - and it was all non-refundable. If he was turned down, the money was wasted. He couldn’t afford that at all.
