I've had my fair share of colleagues calling in with tall tales, but this one takes the biscuit. Quite possibly, the whole jar.My aunt owns a limestone quarry. One of her lorry drivers tasked with ferrying quarried limestone to the marble factory called in to say that his wife had passed away the night before, and asked for a few day's worth of compassionate leave.My aunt told him to take as much time as he needed. After hanging up the phone, she decided to drive over and offer her condolences in person.The wife answered the door.

My manager at my last job, to whom I applied for compassionate leave for my father’s funeral, was never there on the weekends, which was when I worked. I worked Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and my dad died on a Monday night. I had to fly out that night and called the hospital to speak to the nursing supervisor. I told her my father had died and I was not sure when the funeral would be, but it would likely not be until the following Monday, as we had family coming from all over the country. She said she would put in for compassionate leave for me for the following weekend and I thanked her. On Wednesday I called in, a full 24 hours before my scheduled shift, and told my supervisor I would not be there for the weekend because my father had died and she was unbelievably rude to me. She said there was no paperwork and said, “Last thing I heard from you was that you were putting him in hospice or some such thing.” I told her that I had spoken to X, the supervisor, before flying out the night he died, that she had assured me she would file for compassionate leave for me, and that if there was a problem she needed to speak to X. At that point she just slammed down the phone. She was the same way when I put in my notice. I wrote my letter of resignation and put it in a sealed envelope a month before my last scheduled shift. Because it was a Sunday night, I had to get the supervisor to unlock her office door so I could put it on top of her desk where it would be the first thing she would see on Monday morning. A couple of weeks later, she said to me, “I hear you’re leaving us.” I said yes ma’am, I’m moving out of Richmond. She again claimed I had not submitted a resignation letter, and I told her the circumstances under which I had done so. She just turned around and walked away and never spoke to me again.About a year later, a friend I’d worked with on that unit told me that manager had been fired for falsifying documents, so I guess what goes around comes around.

I think he had hoped that he might be feted as the prodigal son. But when it became clear that there was no welcome home for him, he was glad to escape to his other, alternative home.I still do not understand how he was allowed to go back so soon. He was given compassionate leave to come here, on the understanding that he self isolate before, and after the funeral.Of course his wife phone up to say she was suffering from stomach cramps, and all of a sudden he not only got to go back home, but he did not even self isolate at the other end.And in light of the carefully staged photo of her, in profile, with a big fat belly, carrying little Archie, who has been kept prisoner for two years—-she obviously got over her cramps quickly.Being the cynic I am, I can only assume that this picture was released to make sure she kept herself in the spotlight, and used that poor wee boy to shore up her popularity ratings. Why else would she suddenly thrust him into the public eye?And maybe she has been little jealous of all the other new royal babies——
