PDF Editor FAQ
As a father, what triggered your initiation of pursuing custody?
I’ll make my story as short as I can, Missy. My son’s mother had some serious personality defects and refused to get help. We got divorced when my son was 9 months old. When we went to court I asked for custody based on my wife’s failing mental health. The judge refused to even consider my request and said, “The child goes with his mother.”I bought a house not long after we were divorced, and was living alone. On a Friday night three months later, on a non-visitation weekend, my ex-wife showed up at my door at 10:00 p.m. with my son and a big black garbage bag full of diapers, clothes, toys. She handed my son to me and said, ”Take him, I’m tired of being a mom.”I just figured she needed a break and I would be taking my son back to her on Sunday evening. Sunday came and I couldn’t find her. Or on Monday. Or Tuesday. Or Wednesday. Or Thursday. Her family had no idea where she was either.I contacted my attorney, got his best advice, and settled in for a long wait. So, here I was, a full-time student, working full-time, and a single parent. My attorney and I went back to court. Because no one knew where my ex-wife was, she was obviously unavailable to sign papers relinquishing her custody. The same judge that had granted my wife full custody would only grant me “Temporary Custody For An Indefinite Period Of Time.”Five years later, on a Friday night, my girlfriend, myself and my son had ordered a pizza and were just getting ready to watch a movie. My son told me someone was knocking at the front door. Guess who? My son’s mother. She said, “Hi. I guess I’m ready to take Jesse back now.”I was stunned. The scene became really ugly, really quickly, and she left. Alone. My son asked, “Daddy, who was that lady?”I just said, “That was nobody son.”On Monday, totally panic-stricken, I called my attorney. He assured me no competent judge would ever make me give my son back after five years. He said, “Have you ever heard of abandonment? Don’t worry.”We went back to court two weeks later. It turned out she had been living in Canada for the last five years. Unfortunately, we ended up getting the exact same judge that gave my ex-wife custody the first time. The same judge who had granted me temporary custody. He said, “Sorry, but you only have temporary custody. The child goes with his mother.”I had to hand my son over, right then and there, to a person he didn’t even know. My son was crying. I was crying. And my attorney was crying. In fact, the judge was the only person in the courtroom who wasn’t crying. She walked out of the courtroom holding my son. I could here him screaming, “I want my Daddy! I want my Daddy!” all the way out to the parking lot.I will spare you the rest of the story. She is now dead. And my son is one completely, irreversibly fucked up individual. That’s my story, Missy. I hope I answered your question.P.S. I just wanted to say that I have nothing but the upmost respect and admiration for all of the single moms out there. I’ve been in your shoes. And I know how hard it is. Peace.
How should I get a 2 year old to eat? We have temporary custody over this child who will never try anything new. He'll only drink out of bottles and hardly eat anything but snacks. He got to the point where he just let himself starve and such.
If you have temporary custody, your job is to keep that child fed, not change his entire approach to food.If the child likes to drink formula from a bottle, then get a good formula that's nutritionally balanced for toddlers, and provide that throughout the day.If the child likes to eat “snacks,” find snacks that are somewhat more healthy, like low-salt whole-wheat crackers or a bowl of Cheerios and raisins.Buy some kids' vitamin gummies to make sure those nutritonal bases are covered.Meanwhile, offer the child meat and fruit and vegetables and such at mealtimes. No pressure, just make them available. And keep high-sugar, high-salt foods out of the house, so you can honestly say, “We don't have any cookies,” and, “We don't have any potato chips.”Do not try to compel a 2-year-old to eat with threats or punishments. Doesn't work unless it's really, really harsh — and if you have temporary custody, I'm guessing the kid has been dealing with enough lately. Simply meet the kid where he's at and begin slowly changing what food is available to him. He won't starve; he'll adapt with time.
Should I ask my girlfriend's dad if I can kiss her?
Of course you should! Also, You should ask her mother, her siblings and whomsoever you could relate to her.Her body is the result of millions of years of evolution. So you should probably ask to all animals on earth too.Or as an alternative, you could ask her, who has a temporary custody of her body. I believe that it would be the easiest path you could take.
