PDF Editor FAQ

Have you ever gone to the hospital or a doctor for one thing but discovered something else was going on?

Yes. TODAY. I was referred to the “Bariatrics Center” for weight loss management. They basically have 3 options: The gastric bypass surgery, the expensive “drink only 3 protein shakes 600 calories a day for three months” and prescription medications. Having been on a weight loss medication before and successfully lost weight and kept it off until COVID hit, I thought I would likely get the same med again.Well there was an extensive interview, from which she got that I “binge eat” [I do not; I only admitted to eating more than my fair share on holidays and the like]. She referred me for a sleep study for sleep apnea! Which I know I do not have; my spouse does and brings down the rafters snoring; I’ve never been told I snore. I’m “fatigued”, lady, because I am in excrutiating pain every hour of every day and it is taking its toll. I may be facing back surgery. She also referred me to a psychologist who, apparently after I got home and did research, has done numerous studies about how childhood trauma causes obesity as adults. I took the fucking “ACES” test on-line, I score 0 which means I had a perfect childhood. I’m not going to PAY to have some stranger blame my obesity on my upbringing. She only offered me two options for medications: Topamax ER, which has terrible side effects, not the worst that it makes your hair fall out and turn you into an emotionless zombie and it can cause dementia and besides, I’m already on Neurontin for sciatic nerve pain; and Saxenda which is basically injectable insulin or something like it that can cause thyroid cancer, endocrine problems [SHE was an endocrinologist]. This is basically the same drug as Victoza which has been all over the news fo causing bladder cancer and psoriasis of the perineal area [your ‘taint’]. To top it off, this drug costs $1,412 every MONTH which is more than our house payment! And I would have to inject it into my belly or thigh every day!I’m so mad I can’t see straight. She also put in her notes she’d speak to my PCP about switching my BP med which has worked wonderfully for 13 years, to one that causes a HOST of problems. {Carvidolol?] So now I get to fight with HIM at my appointment in June.I messaged her to cancel the sleep study and psychology referrals as I will not be returning and I cancelled the two follow-up appointments on-line. I walked OUT on the last doctor who suggested a “therapist” and having had two horrifying experiences in my 60 years with “psychos” I’m not seeing this one, either. So YEAH, something else was going on! She’s trying to get me into therapy hoping it will help me lose weight, when I can guarantee you the ONLY thing I would do at a psychologist’s appointment is get so humiliated and then infuriated I’d stop at the bar afterwards, down a 6-pack and a dozen wings and call it a day. THAT’S suppoed to help me lose weight??? Dangerous drugs, a stranger trying to blame my upbringing for my obesity, a SLEEP study> I’m never haviing one of those; I can guarantee you I would be awake all NIGHT.She could have just written a prescription for Adipex and sent me on my way. Instead she’s trying to ensure I NEVE retire because I’ll be in debt up to the eyeballs. What a racket they have going on at UNMC. BTW, had she bothered to READ my chart and pay attention to me meds, she’d see I take 25 mg of meclinzine 3x a day and PRN for vertigo. Meclizine has a MAJOR interaction with Topamax, like LIFE-THREATENING.I’d quit the whole damn health system but it’s supposed to be the best and all my ortho doctors are there.
