PDF Editor FAQ

Why has China’s government banned Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc?

Thanks for A2A.I will try to "explain", but I know for you, I might not be able to "justify" such action.Since Beijing has never admitted the government has built the Great Wall (this Internet filter or censorship, whatever you call) and cut access to the mentioned above websites officially, so there's no official answer to this question. So here's is my guess.1. Why social media?Basically it's an "effective" way to control the channels besides the conventional media (which, in China, has been under control by tight, in-advance censorship) and platforms where people exchange ideas.Social Media can help anyone build networks in a second, which to the central gov., means (illegal, underbelly, secret) groups/clubs/associations/communities can be established very fast, where information, contact and anything that undermines the communist ideology, homeland security, and any kind of "harmful and poisonous" ideas. You can set up a discussion/group on Facebook and share info with your group mates. You can teach them how to do certain things and disseminate the videos on YouTube. And now websites like Instagram, Flickr, Soundcould are also banned in China. They are all sort of channels where various types of information can be exchanged. Okay now even pictures, photos and a clip of audio are threatening us.2. Control key international media, so that less people would know something "they should not know about".E.g. You can learn how rampant the government's corruption, even at the top level of its executive branch (if you can call it so) through New York Times. And therefore, the chance of "weakening the people's resolution to follow the CPC and build a bright future for the country" might be reduced if the whole population passes message like this through. China now has the biggest number of Internet users, by the way. That's how I see why NYT was blocked. It could be just that specific story about the families and wealth of the last head of state's council Premier Wen that led to the website's fate in here. The central government can't do the same thing to such websites (most of them digitalized and based on leading international press, which people in China can't get access to the print copies) with censorship as tight as Beijing does on its domestic media/press/publication, so they just help us to shut the door.Same reason to Google's shutdown in the mainland China. for that people now are so used to use a search engine to start their journeys on Internet. Since the search engine is the first step, there's every reason to hold it tight under censorship. However there are some other reasons that might convince the authorities to stick to and even increase their Internet censorship; or to safeguard some other "side benefits" the censorship produced in a long term.About learning English, hmmmm, I assume that you're born in Chinese mainland and want to learn English by larger exposure to the websites you mentioned? Well if you really want to learn English, you will find that there's a lot of other English website apart from FB.After all facebook is about social networking (and entertainment). You want to talk to anyone just for improving your language, make sure you have a real friend on FB to practice with...Learning English has little to do with such websites banned. Yeah of course you can learn something but you might want to check other websites--there's millions of other unbanned websites in English and I'm sure you'll learn anything you need to learn as a English beginner. For example the search engine: Use "gfsoso.com" and English "Bing.com" to start your surfing and you will see thousands links to world of English language.Good luck :)

What is the immigration process like for a United States citizen married to a British citizen to move to England?

It is quite difficult and expensive. There are several routes possible to take, but based upon your question, I am going to assume that you would be seeking a Settlement visa to join a settled person (usually a British citizen living in the UK) as a family member. This is the long name of the Spousal visa. This is usually a 5-year route. If, for example, your spouse is in the US with you, that will bring additional considerations which I have not been subject to, but which should be discoverable through the .gov website mentioned below, or through a Google search. Some of the description below has been simplified, as it would take days to cover all the nuances that can apply. The specifics of the cost and the requirements will differ based upon your personal circumstances. While I am addressing what I believe will most likely apply to you, please do not misconstrue this for any sort of guarantee or legal advice or any sort of assertion with authority. I am not a solicitor/attorney, I am speaking primarily from my own experience, and please bear in mind the “rules” change frequently. There have been significant changes in recent years, so don’t count on the rules today applying beyond a few months. You will need to read VERY carefully the information at Family visas: apply, extend or switch, and I would highly recommend spending a LOT of time reading the forums at UK-Yankee here: UK-Yankee Forum - Index. Also I would recommend joining American Expat groups on Facebook, as there is a lot of information shared there as well.If you have a US passport, you do have a couple of advantages, in that you will probably not be required to take the English language test, and you are not likely to have to take a TB test. If you are in a genuine married relationship, you also have the advantage that your request for a visa is unlikely to be refused, assuming that you meet the requirements and follow every step, but the process is not easy regardless.First of all, it is expensive. You will have to pay a large processing fee for your visa application, and you will also have to pay an IHS (Immigration Health Surcharge) fee which is a supplemental charge that goes to the NHS and is intended to offset medical expenses incurred on the behalf of immigrants. This fee alone has been £200 per year or partial year of your visa. The initial visa you would most likely be applying for lasts for 33 months, so that’s £600 right there. And this fee is set to double in the next month or so to £400 per.The visa application fee is raised pretty much every year, in April. After your first visa of 33 months, you will have to apply again for an extension to your visa (called FLR(M) or Further Leave to Remain - Marriage), which will last for a further 30 months. The IHS fee will be required again, even if you are working and paying National Insurance, as well as the application fee, whatever it has been raised to by that time. If there are any children, there will be additional fees for each child.Only after you have been resident in the UK for a minimum of 5 years, you will qualify for ILR (Indefinite Leave to Remain), which incurs another visa fee. I don’t know the cost of this. Once ILR is granted, you will no longer require further visas and you can live in the UK from then on. However, if you ever move out of the UK for 2 years or more, your ILR can be revoked and you will have to start over again from the beginning. Alternatively, after you acquire ILR, you are eligible to apply for British citizenship, which would allow you to vote and would override the 2-year limit. In order for your visa application to have any chance of success whatsoever, your spouse/partner must be earning in excess of £18,600, and have been in the same job for at least 6 months. There are other avenues to meeting the income threshold for those who are self-employed or those who are unemployed, but these avenues are MORE difficult, not less difficult. One of these would be to have enough funds in savings to meet this requirement for the full length of the visa (i.e. for a 2.5 year visa, you must have £18,600 x 2.5). These funds must be in an account that is in your name, your spouse’s name, or both your names, and I believe no one else may have access to the account (so an account in a parent’s name does not meet this requirement). The funds must have been in that account for 6 months prior to the date of your application. If you can’t meet the income threshold requirement, don’t apply. Your application will be rejected, and your application fee is NON-REFUNDABLE. The only exception to this for the initial visa, as far as I know, would be someone applying under some sort of refuge’ status. In addition to all of the financial hurdles, the application itself is quite extensive and rather invasive. You are required to apply from OUTSIDE the UK, and you have to apply online. Your fees are all paid during this process. After your online application, you have something like 2 or 3 weeks to submit your application package of backing documents. You have to make an appointment in the US to have your Biometrics done (photo and fingerprints) at an approved visa facilitation site (I had to go to Dept of Homeland Security). In your documentation package, you have to prove your relationship is genuine, you have to prove you have accommodations to live in once here (probably including the land registry document), you will need to include a photo timeline of your relationship, letters, emails, texts, etc, etc. Please be aware that just getting the documents together for the application package was nearly a full-time job for me, for about 2 weeks prior to submission. So to recap, you must apply for Visa #1 - Settlement (Spousal) visa lasting 33 months. Fees for this are:Visa application fee - Approximately £2000, but rises ever year. This fee is non-refundable if your application is rejected.IHS fee - £200/year or partial year, about to rise to £400 per. This fee is refundable if your application is rejected.Additional fees for the Biometrics and shipping and return of visa application packet and other particulars.Proof of required income of £18,600 or greater.Apply for Visa #2 - FLR(M) Further Leave to Remain - Marriage. After 30 months or so (at least 28 days prior to the expiration of Visa #1), this visa will last for 30 months. The fees are:Visa application fee - Currently a little over £1000, but rises ever year. This fee is non-refundable if your application is rejected.IHS fee - £400/year or partial year, assuming they don’t raise it again by then. This fee is refundable if your application is rejected.Additional fees for the Biometrics and shipping and return of visa application packet and other particulars.Proof of required income of £18,600 or greater.Apply for Visa #3 - ILR Indefinite Leave to Remain. Must have been resident in the UK for 5 years. Allows recipient to live in the UK for life without further visas. Also allows recipient to access public funds if necessary. Absence from the UK for 2 years or more can cause ILR to be revoked and the applicant may have to start over from the beginning to reestablish residence.Best of luck to you, and please, above all, refer back to the .gov website often for current information!

How long does it usually take to get a Chinese work (z) visa?

Visa expert here :)Companies pay us 1000 USD per case for visa consulting, so this answer may worth 1000 USD for you.We have made over 500 work visas for candidates with different nationalities in different cities in China. And I have actually read over 500 pages of Chinese labor law and exit-entry management law in the Chinese language, have met and solved uncountable “special cases”.As an agent who drinks often afternoon tea with the officers of the SAFEA, I don’t accept any counterview.Haha, just trying to make the answer funny, it’s horribly boring to read out the Chinese visa articles on the internet, isn’t it? You can give counterviews for sure! I will answer your questions one by one.In Short, 3 steps:You prepare docs in your home country - 3 weeksYour Chinese employer apply your docs to SAFEA in China - 3 weeksYou apply for the work visa in the Chinese embassy in your home country - 1 weekIn detail:Firstly, you need to satisfy the requirements of “Foreign employee”BA + 2 years working experience after BA for non-teaching positionsBA with major in language/education or hold a TEFL/TESOL etc for teaching positions.Secondly, get hired by a Chinese company, and start the application process. Here is the process chart:Documents list for ESL teacher:Documents list for Non-teaching positions:To prepare documents, it does take time, the result of all of your documents is the notification letter of the work permit:Issued by the SAFEA (State Administration of Foreign Expert Affairs), we also call it the foreign expert institution, which belongs to the human resource department of the city. Yeah, when you get this letter, it means China has approved that you are an expert, good news isn’t it?Some points of the notification letter:Once you get this letter, almost 100%, you get the work visaThis letter is the only “key document” to apply for the work visaOnly in PDF, no paper version, you will receive it by email or wechatDouble language, English and ChineseDon’t forget to print it with color before you submit to the Chinese embassyWhile applying, the officer of the Chinese embassy will scan the bar code on the top of the letter to get all of your information, just like the salesclerks do in the supermarket. All the time you spent on legalization, notarization etc, is for this letter. It’s the result of your 2 months’ administrative effort. Here are some points which are easy to get confused or misguided by online forums:Which documents should be legalized by the Chinese embassy?TEFL (If you are going to be a teacher)What is notarization, authentication, legalization? Is it necessary to do a medical check? It’s super complex here!My employer asks me to send original documents to China, are they cheating me?My employer asks me to come with a tourist visa first, are they cheating me?Is the work visa the final step? You could add more questions to comment on this post, I will reply to you for sure:)Which documents should be legalized by the Chinese embassy?3 docs for teaching positions, 2 docs for non-teaching positionsBA DegreeNon-criminal record (we call it DBS in UK, and CBC in Europe/USA )TEFL (if you are going to be a teacher)TEFL (If you are going to be a teacher)Must be over 120 hours TEFL certificationMust be accreditated in your home country (If you are an American, but did a TEFL online in UK, it will be a huge problem when you legalize it)On your TEFL certification, mustn’t mention “online course” (generally, the TEFL schools are quite smart, they won’t put it, but still need to make attention)If the TEFL program meets those 3 requirements, you could choose the one less expensive, generally online, which take around 100 USD and actually 35 hours for 120 hours certification. Most of the HRs of the school, even from the high-level International schools, they won’t have any idea which TEFL school is better, the only thing we care, it’s the 120 hours’ certification. What is notarization, authentication, legalization?Chinese embassy won’t legalize your original non-criminal record, degree nor TEFL.The meaning of legalization or notarization is just to tell “this doc/signature/stamp is true”, it will never legalize the content of documents.Chinese embassy only legalizes the “notarization” by the foreign ministry of your country or states. In America, just 2 steps, get your original documents notarized by the state, or local notary public, the Chinese embassy will legalize it.In Europe, 3 steps, get your original documents notarized by the local notary public, authenticated by the foreign ministry, and then, the Chinese embassy will legalize it.If you don’t have much time, it’s better to let an agency of your city do it for you, at least, they barely make mistakes.“Sounds super-complex! Where to find those institutions!?” — “GOOGLE IT! type Notary public + the name of your city/state, you won’t be the first guy who does the legalization in your city.”How to understand the legalization process? It’s just like, I trust my mom, my mom trusts her friend Ana, Ana trust her daughter Kelly. One day, Kelly told me that she can dance, but I’m not sure because I don’t know her, and I’m too busy to let her dance in front of me to prove that, so Kelly let her mom told my mom that she can dance, and my mom told me that Kelly can really dance, then I say to Kelly, yeah! It’s true, you can really dance, what an amazing dancer are you!Sounds a bit childish aye? But the international laws work like that.Is it necessary to do a medical check? It’s super complex here! Not necessary, if it’s too complex in your home country, your employer can write a guarantee letter for you, and you will do a medical check at the health check department of the exit-entry bureau here in China after you enter with a work visa. But you need to make sure that you don’t have any serious infectious disease, if so, you won’t get the work permit and residence permit in China. My employer asks me to send original documents to China, are they cheating me?People can really become victimhood before working abroad…What does your employer do with your original documents? Sell the papers to increase the turnover of the company?Different cities in China apply different documents policy. In Beijing, the SAFEA requires SOME of the ORIGINAL documents for issuing the notification letter of the work permit, it’s not negotiable. But all the original documents which they require are totally re-doable, they won’t require you to send your original passport and original degree to China before coming here. Here is a chart of the documents required by the SAFEA in Beijing. Most of the cities don’t require the original documents before issuing the notification letter. My employer asks me to come with a tourist visa first, are they cheating me?Well, it’s happening, why it’s happening, because the visa process takes 2 months. It happens very often when someone rejects the offer at the last seconds. It’s the beginning of August while I’m writing this answer, I’m quite sure after 1 month, at least 20 schools will ask us to recruit teachers qualified for the work visa but could come with a tourist visa first, including government raised public schools. The reason? Because the school has signed one teacher at the time of June, spending 2 months for the work visa stuff, and at the end of August, the teacher decided not to come because his aunt told him “China is dangerous and super communist”. Then, can the school postpone the summer semester to November? In 2019, China has already sorted the new visa policy, which will follow the policy practiced in Beijing for 2 years. Candidates can switch any kind of visa to the work visa in the exit-entry bureau of the city, with the notification letter of the work permit issued by the local SAFEA.You know what does that policy mean.In practically:Yes, come directly with a work visa is always the best way, if both you and the school have patience.Come with a tourist visa and switch it to a work visa is still doable, it’s also a good way to get used to the environment before you really decide to stay in China for a long term. If you worry so much, you can refuse to work, just visit the zoo, take photos with pandas, enjoy the sunshine on the beach and upload some fancy Instagram photos, why not? And when your notification letter of work permit comes out, go to the exit-entry bureau and switch to a work visa.If come with tourist visa first, the only document you need to prepare in your home country is the non-criminal record, all of the rest of documents can be prepared in China.China visa policy is strict, but not such terrified as described on the internet. If you want to search for some law support, it’s better to ask someone who actually read laws and practice it.Besides, honestly speaking, you are going abroad! Brrroo! If you worry that much, read all the “10 things you must care in China” articles online every day, you are actually having a “secret crush” on “going abroad”. In that case, stay at home can successfully help you avoid any visa issue, and even decrease the traffic risk of taking the international flight which can actually kill people.Just sharing a funny case, in the winter of 2017, I introduced one teacher to a school in Beijing, during his work visa application process, it was really a nightmare for me, he read all the anti-scam articles that he can read online, question every single of my sentence. “Always satisfy the needs of our candidates” is the tenet of our company, so upon his requests, I sent him photos my Chinese ID card, passport, master degree paper, C2 French certification, a selfie with my family, my 2 dogs, my fish tank with 5 turtles… and other things wired which I can’t even remember. I explained to him Chinese laws and even translated the whole SAFEA GOV website to English. Finally, at the beginning of 2018, he got his work visa, I was like “oh my god, finally end”, the school bought him the flight ticket to China, at 3:00 AM, he arrived, gave me a call, arrested by China Customs, and will be deported soon. Why? This lad read uncountable China ESL anti-scam articles online, paid 120% attention to every single step, BUT, fly to China with certain grams of weed in his suitcase…..Is the work visa the final step? No, it’s not.On the work visa you got, the duration of stay is “000” days. If you pay attention to the small words on the bottom, required to apply for a residence permit within 30 days from the date of entry. Before you take your flight to China with your work visa, don’t forget to bring all the original documents with you, still 2 processes to do.Work permit by SAFEA:And residency permit by local exist-entry bureau:Hope my answer could help you.Still feel confused? Here are 2 videos explanation:How to make work visa in China as an English teacher #WOOK.TALENTwork visa non ESL teacher#WOOK TalentIf you are interested to be an English teacher in China, welcome to apply through our website:Teach English in China | WOOK TalentAt least, with us, you won’t need to worry about your visa :)Have a good dayTake care
