Russian-developed –Sputnik VPakistan has received so far received 5 lakh doses of Chinese vaccine Sinopharm as donation and has started its nation- wide vaccination programme on 3 February, 2021. The drawback with Sinopharm is that it is not effective among people over 60 year age.Thus, Pakistan needs more vaccines to cover its population. It has three options;1. More doses from China/ Russia on commercial basis or2. Participate in the WHO sponsored global programme of COVAX to get the vaccine later or3. Get supplies from India.What is the Possibility of Supply of Indian Vaccine?There are two routes for the supply of Indian vaccine to Pakistan:A. Humanitarian Assistance: India has supplied free vaccines to all SAARC nations except Pakistan under her Vaccine Maîtri initiative. So far Pakistan has not made any formal request to India for the supply of vaccine. If Pakistan makes such request, India would consider to supply medicine on grant basis. The humanitarian assistance is the cardinal principle of India’s policy. If we remember, India provided huge humanitarian assistance during Muzaffarabad (POK) earthquake in 2005.But Pakistan is not likely to make such request for humanitarian assistance from India as its leadership has been engaged in anti-India tirade for some time.
