What are some good lesser-known horror films of the 60s and 70s?

The Damned (1963) (aka These Are the Damned)-The scenes with Oliver Reed and his gang are laughably dated, but this is a moody little flick with a nihilist edge. The Raven (1963) - more tongue-in-cheek entry in Roger Corman’s Poe cycle of films.Children of the Damned (1964) - a very loose sequel to Village of the Damned, it isn’t as good, but worth a look.Dr Terror’s House of Horrors (1965) - the studio that made this, Amicus, were like a rival to Hammer, but whereas Hammer was better at indiviual titles, Amicus became more legendary for its anthology films (like the 1972 version of Tales From the Crypt) and this is one of their highlights.Planet of the Vampires (1965) - while it looks cheesy as hell on the surface, being an Italian 60s sci-fi movie, and it can get a bit slow at times, but director Mario Bava gets a lot of mileage out of limited means, and it gets pretty creepy at times. The film has since become notable as a cited influence on Alien.Quatermass and the Pit (aka Five Million Years to Earth) (1967)(this is actually the third of a film series based off a BBC series. The previous two films came out in the 1950s, The Quatermass Xperiment (aka The Creeping Unknown), and Quatermass 2 (aka Enemy From Space)). All three films in this series are worth a look, but this one takes things to a more apocalyptic level by the end, and delves into some pretty heady topics: origin of man, evolution, our war-like instincts, occultism, psychic phenomena, psychokinesis, origins of religion and belief in Satan or Devil-like figure, Missing Link, why genocide and racism exist, ghosts, extraterrestrial life. The Devil Rides Out (1968) (aka The Devil’s Bride) - one of Hammer’s best, and a film that delves deeper than usual into Satanism, with Christopher Lee excellent as the kind of hero you’d want on your side when fighting devil worshippers, and Charles Grey malevolent as the head Satanist. And Soon the Darkness (1970) - since remade, it’s an eerie flick, similar in theme to the later The Vanishing and Breakdown. The Vampire Lovers (1970) - one of Hammer’s forays into lesbian vampires. And probably the best one, with Ingrid Pitt as the seductive villainess.I Drink Your Blood (1970) - its actually a pretty stupid movie, but its a lot of gory fun. It was the first in the US to get an X rating purely for violence. The Cat O’Nine Tails (1971) - a giallo flick from Dario Argento, it isn’t one of his best ones, but it does a good job of building a mystery, and has some suspenseful moments. The Blood on Satan’s Claw (1971) - British horror involving devil worshipping teens in 17th Century England, it’s definitely worth a look if you like The Wicker Man, it kinda has a similar vibe to it.A Bay of Blood (aka Twitch of the Death Nerve) (1971) - Mario Bava’s body count flick, it’s not a great film, but it’s well-made, and has plenty of bloody carnage. It has since proved influential on slashers - particularly Friday the 13th Part 2, which imitated scenes from this.Twins of Evil (1971) - another Hammer vampire flick, this time featuring Playboy Playmate twins the Collinsons, one good and pure, the other evil and seduced into vampirism. While they were clearly picked for glamour, Peter Cushing is great and actually more diabolical than the vampires he’s looking for, more like the Witchfinder General than a heroic figure.Horror Express (1972) - while some of the uh….”science” in this film is questionable, it’s a fairly well-paced horror flick, with some unexpected forays into science fiction. The Blood Spattered Bride (1972) - loosely based on the same material that inspired The Vampire Lovers, and Twins of Evil, this is a very dark, twisted movie.Death Line (aka Raw Meat) (1972) - British shocker about cannibalistic loonies in the London Underground, predating the likes of CHUD.Sisters (1972) - an early horror flick from Brian De Palma with Margot Kidder. When we see Kidder as her psychotic twin, she’s actually pretty scary.Torso (1973) - Italian shocker, with many elements that anticipate slasher movies. The last third of the film is extremely tense with the final girl, whom the killer is unaware of, trying her best to avoid detection. The Crazies (1973) - remade as a more epic zombie-like action thriller, this isn’t as good as George Romero’s zombie films, or any of his best stuff, but it does have a nice oppressive mood, and now seems even scarier in a time of a pandemic.Theatre of Blood (1973) - a great, darkly humourous British shocker, with Vincent Price as a hammy Shakespearean actor getting revenge on the critics who denied him the award he felt he earned. His revenge methods are based on scenes that take place in Shakespeare plays, including Julius Caesar, The Merchant of Venice, Othello, King Lear and Titus Andronicus. The Legend of Hell House (1973) - aside from one silly moment (bad kitty!), it’s a pretty good haunted house flick, taking things to slightly more adult territory than seen before, though not quite going full-on Entity.Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter (1974) - another Hammer flick, this one has more of a comic-book feel to it. Particularly the climax when Kronos plays to a vampire’s vanity as a master swordsman, leading to a cool duel. The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue (aka Let Sleeping Corpses Lie, aka Breakfast at Manchester Morgue, aka Don’t Open the Window, aka a million other titles) - Influenced by Night of the Living Dead, this is one of the best Italian-made zombie films, with a little more focus on atmosphere rather than just throwing lots of blood on the screen.Late Night Trains (aka Night Train Murders) (1975) - its an unpleasant, sleazy movie, but it’s no worse than the movie it was clearly riffing off, The Last House on the Left.Race with the Devil (1975) - while plausibility goes out the window, it’s well-paced, and quite suspenseful.Shivers (1975) (aka They Came From Within, aka The Parasite Murders) - it’s a bit incoherent at times, but David Cronenberg’s big-screen debut is recommended for those who like their films off-kilter and twisted.God Told Me To (aka Demon) (1976) - one of Larry Cohen’s films, it’s a bit rough round the edges, but it’s bizarre enough to merit a look.Massacre at Central High (1976) - its closer in theme to Heathers than a horror film. It’s a surprisingly enjoyable, if very dark movie, made even more relevant post-Columbine.The Town that Dreaded Sundown (1976) - Loosely based on real events, the killer, when he appears, ups the suspense factor considerably, even if some of his murder methods seem a little strange. The film is let down by something that 70s filmmakers seemed to be obsessed with, comedy smalltown cops. You see it in The Last House on the Left, the James Bond film Live and Let Die, Disney’s Freaky Friday, even Black Christmas has an idiot cop. Here, it’s just wrong, and completely out of place. If you can abide these scenes, the film isn’t too bad.The Sentinel (1977) - while directed by one of the least-respected movie directors of his time (and pompous self-important douchebag restaurant critic), this one’s at least one of his better flicks. A weird, creepy movie, with some soon-to-be-famous faces among the cast.Demon Seed (1977) - odd, but compelling sci-fi horror film, with an evil computer holding Julie Christie hostage and wishing to find a way to impregnate her to create a living being that he can live through to interact in the real world. It’s based off a book by Dean Koontz, but be warned if you want to read it - Koontz has since made alterations to the book, as he often does to his older stuff, so the most recent editions are actually somewhat different to the original text.Rabid (1977) - following Shivers, this is a more audience-friendly second effort from David Cronenberg, with porn star Marilyn Chambers taking starring role - which this film became somewhat noted for. Continuing the body horror motif he began previously, this is eery viewing now, not only in the wake of the coronavirus, but also coming some years before the first major outbreaks in the West of AIDS.The Car (1977) - this is a really stupid, goofy flick, but it’s a very enjoyable one. The titular car is an evil demonic driverless vehicle that likes to run people over, knock bikers off bridges, it can fly through buildings to take people out, there’s one awesome moment when it flips over and takes out a pair of pursuing police cars. The ending sucks, and there’s a few subplots that should have been trimmed out - not to mention some awful dialogue during the moment where we learn it can’t trespass on hallowed ground…Martin (1977) - another one from George A Romero. It takes a bit of warming up to, but what emerges is one of the creepiest films about a serial killer I’ve ever seen. Martin, our resident psycho, believes himself to be a vampire, and even his grumpy uncle thinks he’s one. Perhaps not coincidentally, vampirism was something many a serial killer in real life has been into, such as some famous cases that inspired the 1931 film M. A major bonus is that the impressive gore effects come courtesy of Tom Savini.Rituals (1977) - wilderness survival terror in the vein of Deliverance and Southern Comfort. If you like that sort of thing, this is a pretty good one. Once it becomes clear someone’s after the main characters, the tension is sustained throughout. It also deserves points for a scene involving gunpowder wound cauterization, predating Rambo III.The Fury (1978) - this sees Brian De Palma returning to the psychokinetic theme of his adaptation of Carrie, although this one’s more of a conspiracy thriller than a horror. Closer in theme and tone to Scanners and Firestarter. It’s enjoyable, but is a bit silly at times. Cool closing scene though.Patrick (1978) - Australian flick about a comatose nutjob who has psychokinetic abilities. Obviously inspired by both Carrie and The Medusa Touch, it’s an effective enough suspenser. There is a sequel of sorts, Patrick Still Lives, but if you want to check that one out, be warned - that one has a scene that will never get past censors in the UK, no matter how fake it looks.Tourist Trap (1979) - from the same director-producer team of Puppet Master, this is a great under-rated carnival-of-horror type of movie, featuring scary damn mannequins who look rather life-like…The Brood (1979) - moving closer to his more mainstream releases, this early David Cronenberg shocker was kinda shafted by critics at the time, but thankfully, its reputation has improved over the years. The mutant kids are a bit goofy, but it’s a pretty good premise, delving once again into the body horror obsessions of the director. For most of the film, besides some brutal acts of violence, its somewhat restrained - until the climax where we get one gruesome moment that leaves no doubt who was the director.Zombie Flesh Eaters (aka Zombie, aka Zombi 2) (1979) - probably the most famous of Italian zombie films. It isn’t great, and it’s quite slow in the first third, but once it starts to pick up, its a lot of gory fun. Ironic that the walking dead people breathe life into the film whenever it threatens to sag.

What’s the chronology & order of the X-Men movies? How many timelines exist & how are they connected?

There are two different timelines in X -men cinematic universe so there are plot holes & confusions .In my opinion the chronoligical order (mainly focusing on Wolverine)should be in the following :X-Men Origins: Wolverine ( You should start with this movie which focuses on Wolverine’s past . The events set in movie start from 19th century so it makes some sense . This movie may be terrible but to start with X-men franchise it should be chosen first .)X-Men: First Class (Events are set in 1960’s which focuses on young Prof.Charles Xavier & Magneto(Erik) . Wolverine makes a cameo in this movie .Perhaps he was fighting wars then(as seen in X-Men Origins) & frequently sitting in bars .X-Men Apocalypse ( Events occured in 1983 . Logan gets experimented in Weapon X program & becomes Wolverine . He is later freed by a young Cyclops and Jean Grey, with his new adamantium skeleton &claws. The same Weapon X experiment thing also happened in” X-Men Origins: Wolverine” but Wolverine escaped on his own without anyone’s help .Those events happened in different timelines. After the post credits scene an unknown man from Essex Corp takes sample of Wolverine’s blood in a suitcase .The outcome we see in Logan.X-Men ( Story is set in 2000 few decades after the events of X-Men Apocalypse Both Prof.Charles & Magneto are aged now . They have formed their separate teams which are rivals . Charles runs a gifted school for mutants & they are called the X-men. They recruit Wolverine who is now a cage fighter in Canada .( He has lost his memory after being shot with adamantium bullets in X-Men Origins ).X- Men 2 ( Nothing much to explain .Movie plot takes place three years after X-Men . Here Wolverine meets an old William Stryker who masterminded the Weapon X program.)X-Men: The Last Stand ( Another three years later we meet the X-Men . It focuses on the Jean Grey /Dark Phoenix thing .At the end , Wolverine is bound to kill Jean Grey /Dark Phoenix.)The Wolverine ( A few years later the events of The Last Stand . We see Wolverine is living a hermit kind of life in forests of Canada . Later he reaches Japan where he meets someone from his past . At the end of movie he meets Magneto & a reincarnated Prof. Charles Xavier which sets the events for next X-men movieX-Men: Days of Future Past.X-Men: Days of Future Past ( Year is 2023 . The mutants are being hunted & killed by Sentinels . Wolverine travels back to time in 1973 to alter the timeline .He doesn’t travels physically his consciousness travels to his younger body . In the end climax everything changes in timeline all the dead mutants are alive but it’s not happily ever after .)Deadpool ( It’s not mentioned when the events occured . May be 2016 . We see two X-Men students allied with Deadpool . Wolverine does not appear or mentioned but Hugh Jackman’s face on cover on a magazine appears .)Logan ( The year is 2029 . Most of the mutants are dead . There is no Wolverine . We just a see an ageing , weary Logan . He drives a limo and takes care of ailing Prof. Charles Xavier with help of Caliban .Logan is using his birthname James Howlett & he has hidden his Wolverine persona inside him . His healing abilities has dramtically declined & he is dying because of adamantium poising .Everything is ok until X-23 a clone daughter of Logan steps in . Laura a.k.a X-23 is the result of takes of Wolverine’s blood sample taken by Essex Corp at end of X-Men Apocalypse . Now Logan is on the run with Laura being pursued by bad guys who wants Laura back in their lab .P.S. - Logan is the final outing of Hugh Jackman in his signature role. Please add comments if you are confused or want to add something after reading the above points .
