The candidates appearing for Gr B posts are well aware that, if selected, they will have to face transfers at periodic intervals say around 5 years.But RBI transfers are not that much strainful. Because, officers are given choice of centre and an intimation before 2–3 months of transfers. Postponenent/ deferment requests on medical / education grounds are considered sympathetically.On reporting at a new centre they are allotted quarters on the same day. They are also allowed to retain quarter at previous centres if valid reasons are given. If an officer has small children, primary school exist in RBI colony at some centre. Sufficient joining time and aitfares for self and family plus usual monetary benefit is given to bring family at new centre. Bills for transportation of car and household items upto a certain limit are paid.If an officer has left family at old centre and stays alone Bank has arranged Cateters for serving tea/ coffee/ milk, breakfast and dinner at reasonable cost. Lunch is served in the Office lounge.RBI colonies are well maintained and a Caretaker attends to your complaint, if any, promptly. Facility of Consumer store, dhobi, milkman, gas supply, newspaper supply etc is available.In short, transferee officers do not face any hardship at the new centre. Within a short time they get adjusted to the new environment and live happily till their next transfer.

This request was not made of me but I was a witness to the request.The student was 10 years old and in the 5th grade. She was an above average student who did not misbehave in school anymore than most kids. Her school misbehaviors were things like talking in class or maybe a rare tardy.I do not know what she had done at home but her mother was apparently furious with her. The mother asked the teacher to paddle her; specifically, to “spank her with a paddle hard enough so that she cannot sit down.”The school did have corporal punishment officially but it was not used often. The teacher was not a fan of corporal punishment and had not had an occasion to use it before. She referred the request to the vice-principal.Frankly, I was familiar with teachers deferring to parents to impose punishment but not the other way around.I recognize the need for schools to impose punishment; it is part of the teacher’s job to be a disciplinarian for behaviors at school. It is not the teacher’s job to punish misbehavior at home.In this case, the girl did not get paddled in school but I am not entirely sure what was said by the vice-principal to this mother who wished to relegate her child’s discipline to the school.However, I subsequently learned that some schools will impose a paddling merely at the request of a parent; no questions asked. Something is not right.
