PDF Editor FAQ

How do you write technical documentation for complex systems?

The term “technical documentation” is very unspecific and not defined in ISO standards or INCOSE handbooks. We can interpret the term as the totality of all "technical documents" of a project or system. But we're not getting much further with this. At least there is an (informative, not mandatory) list of “technical documents” in annex D2 of EIA-632; the list includes (selection):Configuration Management (CM) PlanData Management PlanSystems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP)Supportability and Maintenance PlansSoftware Development Planand also the Specifications (performance as well as detail specifications). For each of these kinds of documents there are specific methods, tools and standards for their development. Whole books have been written about these topics, and there are whole university courses for this. So do not expect a sufficient answer to your question in Quora. Personally, I appreciate Jeff Grady's books, which describe on an appropriate level of detail how plans and specifications are developed using the methods of systems engineering; e.g. System Requirements Analysis: Grady, Jeffrey O.: 9780120885145: Amazon.com: Books, System Verification: Proving the Design Solution Satisfies the Requirements: Grady, Jeffrey O.: 9780123740144: Amazon.com: Books and System Management: Planning, Enterprise Identity, and Deployment, Second Edition (Systems Engineering), Grady, Jeffrey O., eBook - Amazon.com. Keep in mind that book recommendations are subjective, and the number of available books is large, even if - in my opinion - only a few are really good. There are also numerous standards and guidelines that help to answer this question; e.g. ISO 24748-4 Systems engineering planning, ISO 29148-2011 Requirements engineering (including specification templates), INCOSE Guide for Writing Requirements, MIL-HDBK-61A, Configuration Management Guidance, ASD S3000L Logistics Support Analysis, NDIA Planning & Scheduling Excellence Guide (PASEG), just to name a few.Let me just add some general remarks. Technical documents are the result of suitable, integrated processes. In order to provide any benefit, they are developed, not simply written down from thin air or patched up with copy/paste. It is like in mathematics: the solution path counts, not (only) the final result. The documents are only traceable and verifiable (i.e. acceptable) by the customer if there is a traceable process with defined intermediate results, which are carried out by sufficiently qualified and experienced people. Otherwise, the customer would have to carry out the entire process himself and cross-correlate the content of the resulting documents in order to assess the correctness and appropriateness of the plans and specifications. Of course, this is neither feasible nor useful; what would be the contractor's benefit in such a scenario? Unfortunately, in practice I all too often encounter piles of documents that have not been developed using appropriate methods (or unsuitable methods in the sense of "Cargo Cult") and are in fact useless (although still very costly). This may have been an important reason for the popularity of the Agile movement; but simply leaving out all specifications and plans is of course not the solution (and once again like many times in history the wrong problem was addressed). The same considerations of course also apply to model-based systems engineering (MBSE); just as in a document-based process, models must be developed by appropriate people using appropriate processes and tools, otherwise the result is useless.Hope this helps.

1 day use and charged me for 2 months! I tried less than a day and i didnt liked it right away, and had to pay for 1 month. It was ok but charging me again for another month even if i didnt use it and only agreed to pay 1 month. This program is a scam!
