There are quite a few reasons:The biggest is that I figured I was better at actual hands-on management and that is what I truly enjoyed…. IAS is where I would get to do that… yes with IFS I would get to travel, meet amazing people, be a part of the big global policy meets …. but that whole emotional fulfillment problem of being the actual hands-on reason for making someone’s life better would again be lost…Another thing that happened was that I realised that I am not medically eligible for IFS as well. So after the battle with IRS, I did not want to get entangled in another battle of exactly the same type. I just did not have it in me to wait 4–5 more years and to justify again and again why I could do the job. With IRS I was still going to be in the country… with IFS, it would have become justifying how you will live abroad and get into all those insurance issues etc. I checked the list and realised that only IAS would be what I could get, so just stuck to that.I had also realised by this time that much as I LOVE traveling abroad, I wouldnt actually like living there alone! I crave India after a few weeks outside! I need people to speak my native language around me! Plus I can’t live without spicy food!I am an only child. My parents wouldn’t have any support system if I was away in other countries…. wherever I am in India, they can easily come…. but they wouldn’t be able to live abroad since they are true blue Indians, vegetarian and unable to eat anything except Indian food!Mainly all these reasons combined to make me pick IAS over IFS.

Just relax and wait for offer letter.As soon as you receive your offer letter, kindly see your place of posting and dial the number of HR as mentioned in the offer letter. Have a very smooth talk with him/her. Do not ask unnecessary questions.1.You will be given 45 days time to join the organization. So keep the HR informed with the date of your arrival so that he can make necessary accommodation arrangements for you.2.First day will be medical check-up. So better go with empty stomach. Kindly ask the HR regarding this before arrival.3.Along with the Offer letter you will get list of some 8 to 12 certificates that you need to submit while joining. Make sure you arrange all those documents before joining.4. You will need many photos of you and your parents. So keep it ready. Adhaar, Address proof, etc will be required.5. You are NOT eligible for joining TA. So make travelling arrangements by yourself to reach your office for joining.6. If there are any documents that aren't submitted, you need to give a written declaration stating that you'll submit them in a month or so7. Untill and unless you are medically fit, and the Doctor issues a medical certificate, you aren't a part of ONGC. The day when you are medically eligible, your date of joining will be issued.8.Joining formalities will take 2 to 14 days for which you are paid and accommodated. Once you get employee ID then you'll be given place of posting. I.e whether Office duty/ Field duty/Lab duty/ etc. Based on that your accommodation arrangements will be made there after.9.Lastly be strong and have lots of PATIENCE for your joining.
