I am a student at IISER Kolkata, 2nd year running, and I too had rummaged through all of Quora for these kinds of questions and answers right before I joined.When I first arrived, the first thing I noticed was the greenery all around, and the glassy buildings almost looked out of place. Getting to know the campus( It’s quite big) and getting used to hostel life took some time. People here are generally quite laid back, when they’re not worrying about exams(That happens a bit more often than I would have liked). The professors are quite good, and will guide you if you approach them.You’ll find people here who are nerdier than you had imagined was humanly possible, you’ll make friends while gaming late into the night, you’ll finally give up trying to explain what an IISER is to your relatives, you’ll mail a hundred professors trying to get an internship, you’ll learn to sign your roommate’s name on the attendance sheet, you’ll experience the late night birthday parties, the mud bath during Janmashtami, and you’ll get depressed for weeks on end contemplating about what you’re gonna do with your life. And among all that, your time here will go by much faster than you would have liked.About the facilities, the hostel rooms are either 2 or 3 shared and takes a bit of adapting to. There’s a Football ground, cricket ground, badminton courts, volleyball court, basketball court, table tennis boards, self defence training, and a lot of other stuff. A big library/study/Computer centre building is almost finished. And if that’s not enough, a swimming pool is under construction.

But having passed those philosophical days of our first semester, we have learned not to go too deep into anything.To answer your question, life at IISER Mohali is unpredictable. One moment you attend your first lecture, the next moment you open your eyes it’s already mid-sem time. Once you come here, your sleep cycle begins to question its existence when it’s 4 AM in the night and you’re left thinking how much your SPI would drop down if you scored a C in PHY 102.The place is so vibrant, you can find talent hidden in every corner. And IISER gives you enough opportunities to find one in yourself too.There are days when we make it to the lecture hall for the first class and then are days when we don’t. Disclaimer: The latter number usually exceeding the former, unless your professor decides to personally destroy you with an attendance sheet. :)Academically, labs are the best part of the day because here we are trained as independent budding researchers. Forget about the lab protocols in a sheet of paper that you used to receive in school and imitate whatever was written, like a monkey. Here we set fire to Helmholtz loops, while doing error analysis on our lives, and are appreciated for being dedicated scholars. Then we return back to our base camps with the company of our growling stomachs.The existence of non-veg food in our campus is a myth. Hostel 6 mess boasts of delicacies like femto-sized paneer, bone chicken-less and carrot shredding disguised as Gajar ka Halwa.Despite the hectic schedule (no sarcasm intended) of our lives, we enjoy to the fullest. Be it the aimless walks after dinner, or hijacking someone’s room for a game of Werewolf (obviously not room no 412, H6, popularly known as ‘kotha’), or be it attending fancy student talks and questioning if you really deserved your admission in IISER Mohali.And with all our perks and quarks (quirks), we are all happy and stay together like a close-knit family (sarcasm intended?).That’s all Folks!

I left TCS because I felt that I cannot tolerate things anymore and I give you my reasons for why I felt so.My Manager is so much egoistic that I have seen with my eyes how many employees career was destroyed.I have heard employees abusing each other, demeaning each other and no one gives a damn about workplace ethics.I have seen freshers who put their in work to get appreciated, given the least band because of office politics.I have seen HR’s who are manager centric and doesn’t give a damn for workplace harrassment issues.I have seen employees mocking every new joinee for no reason.Mostly, I have experienced the salary decrease which happens only in TCS when you get the least band.I have seen employees doing only iEvolve courses and getting paid at the end of month.I have seen employees who deviate others from doing iEvolve courses so that they have get nothing to show as part of trainings attended in appraissal sheet.I have heard employees shouting at each other for chairs.I have seen employees waiting since ages to get those spoons for having lunch in cafterias.What not, there are many reasons why I parted from TCS. I didn’t want my self respect to be mocked every now and then, day and night. Peace!
