It was the first delivery I witnessed as a student. Normally the doctor ‘breaks’ the bed by dropping the bottom part so he/she can be up close to the woman’s bottom end as she delivers. This doctor never did, saying that ‘babies are too slippery’ so he preferred to leave the bottom of the bed up.This mom, a first-timer, was doing a great job pushing and once the baby’s head was out, the rest of his body flew out of her vagina, he slid across the bottom of the bed like it was a water slid or slip’n’slide, and bounced off the doctor’s stomach and into the doc’s hands.I never saw anything like it again.

I, too, always wanted a baby…from as far back as I can remember. I babysat constantly, and that only put a “bandaid” on my dream for a baby of my own.When I was in high school, I took a child development course, which included a semester-long assignment that put things into perspective for me. Each of us was required to (on our own) research the cost of having a baby…from conception through the entire first year. We had to cover EVERYTHING…from our prenatal tests, maternity clothing, delivery costs, baby furniture, diapers, food, daycare (we were still students, you know!)…the list went on and on. We were to figure in all expenses WITHOUT RELYING on help from outside sources (NO parent's housing or insurance coverage, no government assistance, W.I.C., etc.). And NO hand-me-downs from our younger siblings!Transportation to/from medical appts…what?!? No car? Add in the cost of a reliable car…or taxi fare…etc. The huge list was exhausting!!!!! And the RESULTS were HUGE eye-openers!!! BABIES (and all of their necessities) ARE EXPENSIVE!!!!!It was a HUGE lesson to each and every one of the young ladies in that class!I DID grow up and eventually have my own babies! But I lived my life to the fullest before my first was born, just before I turned 30. I joined the military…lived all over the world…experienced many things I would have otherwise been too tied down to do. I have NO regrets about delaying my family! Likewise, after having my kids, I have no regrets about “what might have been” (other things I ‘missed' because my “now priority” was being a parent).Don't rush growing up! You'll never get these moments…days…years…back…EVER!!! For now, the very best thing you can give your future child/children is to do your very best in everything you do!

It stays pretty much the same, except you just turn into a zombie from a human.Incessant crying would make you tear up. A long time of silence will make you panic.Those who say I love staying up all night, would want to hit the bed by 10. And those who do hit the bed by 10, well haha!You will be extra cautious about anything and everything. Hiccups, cough and a sneeze will make you sit right up. Doctors number would be on speed dial.Your room would smell of baby powder and diapers. Importance of burp would come into notice.Kids are cute and lovely till they cry. They still remain lovely if you just have to hand them over to their parent. Things are worse only when you become that parent.During my post delivery days I wished I was some sort of a scientist, who could make an invention that the baby could be put back in the womb when they start crying in the night. I don't feel embarrassed to say such weird ideas used to come in my mind.Whoever said, sleep like a baby, never had a baby. It should actually say, sleep like a husband.Also babies are pretty smart. Don't mistake them to be gullible. They know exactly when to make a scene. Try hugging or kissing your spouse and see them cry on cue.Till you become pregnant, you would want your house to look perfect. After the baby, you are happy if you find a spot to sit on the sofa and breathe.But on the other side, you would realise how an innocent smile can make your day. How someone's words can lit up your mood. How the firsts of everything would make you tear up.The first step, the first word, the first laugh and the first hug will be engraved in the mind forever.You won't even realise when the baby that you just got from the hospital has grown up.Having a baby, doesn't change anything. It just changes your perception of looking at life.
