Why did the Bombardier C Series sell poorly yet is selling far better branded as Airbus A220?

How come the Bombardier C-Series never made any money but after Airbus took over, it's now selling like hotcakes? It was late 2016 when Delta Airlines (based in Atlanta, GA, USA.) purchased 75 Cseries from Bombardier at about $20 million per aircraft, making a pretty big announcement that they would be making the large purchase from the Canadian Aircraft Manufacturer. At the time, it was expected the aircraft would be manufactured in Montreal, Canada.Delta sees early 2019 debut for CSeriesAlmost as soon as the announcement came from Delta, Boeing (Seattle, WA) kicked up a stink. They felt that Delta had been unfair in their purchase, and that they should have purchased the 190 seat Boeing 737MAX8 instead of the 100 seat C-series from Bombardier. And so - even though the capacity and use profile that Delta was wanting more closely matched the C-series 100 seat airliner to replace Delta's old McDonnell Douglas MD80 aircraft, Boeing decided to take their complaint (that Delta should replace a short range, 100 seat aircraft with a medium range 190 seat aircraft) to the American Government, claiming that Bombardier only made the sale because they "Dumped" aircraft onto the market below cost.CSeries dumping petition by Boeing - WikipediaRight about this time, Donald Trump started a Trade Tarrif war with Canada because... reasons. And so the Senate decided to place a Tarrif (Tax) on imported aircraft. And Montreal is in Canada. And so, in an effort to "encourage" Delta to purchase the Boeing 737MAX8 instead of the Cseries, a 350% Tarrif Tax was added to the purchase price, increasing the cost of the Cseries by 350% for airlines trying to purchase them in the USA.US finds against Bombardier in Boeing fightDelta was forced to postpone the order, now that the Cseries was nearly 3 times as expensive as a 737MAX8 all of a sudden.Bombardier really really wanted to sell their aircraft to Airlines in America. It didn't really compete with any Boeing products, other than the already closed production of Boeing 717-200 aircraft (McDonnell Douglas MD95's by a different name.)Selling a competitors aircraft under a different name is something that Boeing had done in the early 2000's with the 717-200.The Tariffs were worded such that aircraft Manufactured in Canada were going to incur the tariff rate.So Bombardier started looking at delivery partners. Maybe someone could build the aircraft under licence in the United States and get around the tariff. As it happened, Airbus had just opened a new manufacturing plant in Mobile Alabama in 2015.Airbus Mobile - WikipediaAnd so negotiations were made with Airbus, who purchased a 51% share in the Cseries. The product was named an "Airbus", a company who already had a manufacturing base in the United States, and as an employer in the state of Alabama, would not be effected by the Tariffs on Canadian products, or the 350% Tariff on the Bombardier C-series specifically. And so the Airbus A220 was sold to Delta Airlines for essentially the same price they had purchased the Cseries back before the whole Tariff mess started.https://www.usitc.gov/publications/701_731/pub4702.pdfAirbus teams up with Bombardier to deepen Delta ties and outmanoeuvre BoeingThe funny thing is, Many of the aircraft that Delta had purchased had already been built in Montreal. They were essentially flown, complete, to Mobile Alabama, received new paint jobs that replaced "Bombardier C-100" with "Airbus A220" and then flown, essentially unmodified, to Delta. It was always a better match for the MD80 and 717 role Delta were using it to replace. The seating arrangements are similar (2 seats on one side, 3 seats on the other). The 737MAX was never going to work in the role Delta intended for their MD88 replacement. Even before it got grounded for months. The main reason it's selling better now as the A220, may have something to do with the fact there isn't a Tariff on it that pushed the price up by 350%.Bombardier wins fight against huge tariffs on aircraft imports

How much do illegal immigrants pay in taxes, local, state and federal, every year?

How much do illegal immigrants pay in taxes, local, state and federal, every year?Legally?Minimal on sales taxes - since they are not buying big ticket and big tax items - they are not buying homes, big screens, fancy cars or anything that requires financing - financing requires a social security number and bank accounts, Bank accounts need Social Security numbers. They are going to do everything off the grid, since on the grid requires legal IDI spent 6 months living nearly off the grid in a new state, because Homeland took forever to get me a copy of my citizenship papers - it is EASY to do.-NEAR ZERO on payroll taxes - To pay those taxes, you need a Social Security number or Tax ID numberTo have a Social Security number or Tax ID number, you need to prove you were lawfully in the U SSince illegal entry is not lawful entry - you can not get either, and so you can not lawfully pay in eitherUnlawfully, you can rip off someone’s SS number and use it to get a job - but in many systems, duplication of payroll tax withholding gets caught. That is why so many long term employees at Trump’s properties got caught and let go - e-verify caught that when they went over to e-verify as the system they use.“A 2016 study by the Institute on Taxation & Economic Policy, a left-leaning research organization, estimated that undocumented immigrants pay $11.64 billion in state and local taxes in 2013, equivalent to about 8 percent of their total income. This includes sales and excise taxes on goods and services ($6.9 billion), property taxes ($3.6 billion) and personal income taxes ($1.1 billion, assuming a 50 percent compliance rate).”11.6 - (6.9 + 3.6) = 1.1So we get 1.1 in as payrollbut the children get Medicaid WIC, CHiP and education, school lunches, preferred higher education tuition rates etc.Now that you see the math - you see why I say near Zero-So how do people get around not being able to work with no SS or ID number? That is the BIGGER question - especially since we are releasing those waiting for amnesty hearings into t U S with no right to work.Work under the table for cash and cash equivalentsStart a company, and have yourself and your crew be hired by others-the people who install pool liners are often not documented and not paying taxes - and they sub-contract to legit pool companiesyard services are often not documented and not paying taxesconstruction subcontractors on one off home construction are often not documented and not paying taxes, includingdrywall hangers and finisherspaintersrooferslandscapersJust to give you an idea how much of it is actually doneMost DO NOT go to work in established businesses as a person ON THE PAYROLL. Most are doing 1099 work, or undocumented work-Some things to keep in mindChildren born here in the U S get Medicaid, CHIP and WIC benefits - and the parent’s status does not matter-You DO NOT PAY taxes in if you are not on a payroll - so there is no check if you are legally able to work in the country-Remember that if you live in a state with sales tax, every time you buy something subject to sales tax, you pay sales tax. It does not matter if you are a US citizen, legal permanent resident, tourist or illegal immigrant, you pay sales tax.Food is usually not taxed - so there is no sales taxVery little is bought if it requires financing since financing requires IDSo we are talking GoodWill type stores for hard goods, or WalMart etc for the lower ed items, and usually cash purchasesYard sales rarely pay sales tax - so anything bought on the gray market is never taxed-If you live in a house or apartment in a state with property tax, you pay property tax. You might be paying rent to your landlord, who then pays the property tax, but you are paying it.Ever notice how many live in one place? Again - per capital they will pay far less-If you drive, you pay fuel tax. If you own the car, you probably paid sales tax when you bought it and vehicle registration fees every year, part of which are a tax.My 750.00 beater pickup had a sales tax of 7.25 in GA - Just paid it. My tags were 25.00. Had I not registered it - I would have paid ZEROEver notice the number of lost tags cardboard signs? - stolen tags gets around the DMV in momentsThieves stealing license plates, registration stickers FHP says that hundreds of plates and stickers have been reported stolen. They say people steal them because they can't afford to buy or renew them, or pay for insurance.People found driving with fake tags and without tags According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, there were nearly 114,000 car tag violations reported by police departments across the state last year. That’s a 14% increase over the year before. That includes violations for tags that expired, improper tags—or even no license plate on the back of the car.-My 37 x 25 steel shop was built with subcontracted crews - NONE of them had to pay taxesthe concrete crew was cash day labors - all 44 cu yardsthe erecting crew was subcontracted day labor all 20Kthe landscape crew was paid by a personal checkthe multiple tree removal was a personal check for 3Kthe stup grind out was a personal check for 250Now think how many places such work is going on in your town - and it is UNTRACEABLE - since the work locations change way too much for a Department of Labor or INS to catch up to them

How much of Amazon’s success is due to Amazon Web Services (AWS)?

From Amazon Fires on All Cylinders on the One Million by One Million blog:Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN) has reported its seventh straight quarter of profit and beat earnings estimates. All this, thanks to its hugely profitable cloud segment, Amazon Web Services (AWS).Amazon’s FinancialsAmazon’s fourth quarter revenues grew 22% over the year to $43.7 billion, compared with the market’s expectations of $44.68 billion. EPS of $1.54 beat the Street’s forecast of $1.35 per share. Net income increased to $749 million from $482 million a year ago. Operating income increased 13% to $1.3 billion.By segment, net product sales increased 15% to $30.63 billion and net services sales grew 43.7% to $13.11 billion.Amazon ended the year with net sales growing 27% to $136 billion and net income increasing 302% to $2.4 billion or $4.9 per diluted share. Operating income grew 91% to $4.2 billion.Amazon’s headcount increased by 48% or 111,400 during the year to take the total to 341,000. It plans to add 100,000 more jobs over the next 18 months. Five years ago, Amazon employed just 32,000 people globally and now its hiring spree in one year rivals Microsoft’s total headcount of 120,000.For the current quarter, Amazon projected revenues of $33.25 billion-$35.75 billion with operating income of $250 million-$900 million. The Street was looking for revenues of $27.7 billion with an operating income of $665 million.AWS InitiativesAWS, the profit engine of Amazon, continued to grow with millions of active customers. It added Workday, Salesforce, Capital One, Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), McDonald’s, and others to its list of enterprise customers. Operating income was $926 million on $3.53 billion (up 47%) in revenue in Q4 2016. For the full year 2016, operating income was $3.1 billion (up 55%) on revenue of $12.3 billion.AWS accelerated its infrastructure expansion in 2016, opening 11 Availability Zones across five geographic regions in the US, Korea, India, and most recently, Canada and the UK. It now operates 42 Availability Zones across 16 infrastructure regions globally and plans to open an additional five Availability Zones in France and China.AWS has announced three AI services: speech recognition and natural language understanding service Amazon Lex, text-to-speech engine Amazon Polly, and image recognition service Amazon Rekognition. AWS also announced a significant investment in MXNet, an open source distributed deep learning framework. It also announced Amazon Athena, a pay-as-you-go, interactive query service for analyzing semi-structured data such as clickstreams and logfiles and the GA of Amazon QuickSight, a cloud-powered business analytics service.Amazon’s E-commerce InitiativesDuring the quarter, Amazon introduced Amazon Go in Seattle, a new kind of store where customers can just pick up the products they want and walk out without any checkout. This experience is made possible by the same type of technologies used in self-driving cars: computer vision, sensor fusion, and deep learning. In the second half of the year, Amazon stepped up its investment in Prime benefits, such as Prime Now, AmazonFresh, Alexa and Echo devices as well as digital video content. It now offers Prime Video to customers in more than 200 countries. Amazon Studios has won two Golden Globes: Casey Affleck (Best Actor) for Manchester by the Sea and Billy Bob Thornton (Best Actor in a TV Series) for Goliath. It was also nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture (Manchester by the Sea), Best Director (Kenneth Lonergan), and Best Foreign Language Film (The Salesman). Its Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) is also seeing good traction. It delivered more than two billion units on behalf of sellers in 2016, and the number of active sellers using FBA grew more than 70%. It has over 100,000 sellers, and in Q4 FBA units represented over 55% of total third-party units. However, there are rising concerns that Amazon has failed to stop the circulation of counterfeits.Amazon has also launched a revamped and expanded version of a Pinterest-like feature called “Interesting Finds” which offers shoppers a curated feed of products across a number of categories. Pinterest, which is struggling to monetize its more than 150 million monthly users, could actually be a good acquisition prospect for Amazon, which ended the quarter with a cash balance of $19.3 billion.Creating and keeping jobs in the US has been one of the points of contention between Trump and Silicon Valley companies. Trump has also questioned Amazon’s tax practices and Bezos’ interest in acquiring The Washington Post. Amazon’s massive hiring plans could help land it in Trump’s good books. The market is worried about Amazon missing the revenue estimate in the holiday season, but I believe it is a minor hiccup for a winner. Its stock is trading at $810.20 with a market capitalization of $371.3 billion. Its 52-week range is $474-$847.21.
