Governor Cuomo said that most new coronavirus cases are now from people who had been staying home. How is that possible?

Here are the clues for you look at them in totality:66% of the cases were of people sheltering in placeVast majority of them are black and hispanicVast majority of them are poorWhat does the shelter of people who meet the three requirements look like? This:Here are some articles that talk about the issues afflicting this type of housing:NYCHA CEO Gregory Russ Talks About $40 billion capital repairs needed.HUD Will Steer New York's Vast Public Housing AgencyNYCHA monitor's first report paints bleak picture of public housing conditionsThe first article came out right before Covid 19 struck. NYCHA is behind by about $40 billion in needed repairs. Below is a list of what needs to be repaired. Notice #1 is kitchen and bathrooms…meaning the units are unsanitary. Why am I so focused on the poor maintenance of the bathrooms and kitchens in these public housing units? Because SARS (the contagion that hit China in 2003) was shown to have spread through faulty plumbing. What are the most dangerous neighborhoods in New York City?

For 2021-(Scroll down for my answer from the previous year)After answering this question last year, murders in New York City are at the highest since 2011, and neighborhoods have gotten even more gritty since the start of the pandemic. Shootings are up in NYC 97% and a 45% increase in murders throughout the city. Mainly because of the lack of tourists and city support. I’m 20 years old, born in Harlem, and raised in both the South Bronx and Harlem. All my answers are based on first hand experience. The South Bronx is one of the most dangerous areas in New York City. The Bronx has had a 26% increase in murders from the previous year 2019, the majority of these are in the South Bronx. The South Bronx has the grittiest neighborhoods in the city, a lot of homelessness and visible drug use throughout. Unlike some other places in the city, a violent crime can happen to you for no reason in The South Bronx. The South Bronx gets VERY vacant at night time and it definitely feels the scariest out of any other neighborhood at night in the city.Harlem also remains on the list this year with at least a 42% increase in murders from the previous year as well. This includes East Harlem and Central Harlem. In East Harlem there are a lot of housing projects, one of the highest concentration in the city. All these projects lack any renovations and are the most dangerous in Manhattan. Throughout the day and night there are many crimes happening in and around projects in East Harlem. Gun violence in projects around East Harlem remain higher than other Housing Projects in Manhattan. In Central Harlem is where most black residents in Harlem live. Central Harlem’s residents are aggressive, especially 130th-155th streets. Central Harlem also has high gun violence and other violent crimes frequently. Housing projects in Harlem remain very active and violent and are more spread out than on the east, so there are more blocks with tenement buildings and brownstones. A lot of tenement buildings in Harlem are NYCHA owned, so they are gritty inside and out. At night Harlem gets vacant but still has active blocks, with people still outside at night. Harlem has also had an increase in burglaries, but has always been notorious for that.As far as murders go, Brownsville takes the hat. Brownsville has the highest murder rate in the city, with East Harlem being the second. Brownsville also has very aggressive people. Brownsville is also very gritty with many housing projects around. There is high crime in and around the projects, mainly gun violence. There are definitely more gang related violence in Brownsville than any other neighborhood in the city. Brownsville has violent crimes Daily, and shootings on the regular, but at night all this increases. As well as robbery, but it’s very gritty so at night it makes it even more shaky. Therefore The South Bronx, Harlem, and Brownsville are the most dangerous neighborhoods in New York City. Some other neighborhoods that are dangerous and high with crime: Tremont, Fordham, Beford Park, University Heights, Crown Heights, East New York, Flatbush, and Washington Heights. For 2020-As a 19 year old black male who’s lived in Harlem, on 115h between 5th and Lenox in Foster projects (One of the most dangerous projects in Harlem) and then in the South Bronx on 158th and Melrose Ave(one of the most dangerous areas in the whole city) and now right back to Harlem on 143rd and 8th Ave.(uptown Harlem)I’ve seen a personal glimpse in two of New York’s Notorious top two most dangerous neighborhoods. In the South Bronx, it doesn’t look as gritty as it was in the 80s, being that there is a lot of new development of new affordable housing buildings. BUT it is still a very violent area of NY. Many shootings, fights, etc. The South Bronx is definitely the area in NY where you have the highest chance of getting robbed, regardless of the time of day. The south Bronx also has A LOT of projects and they are among the most dangerous in the city. Its also still gritty looking just not burnt out lots every where. Now in Harlem, despite gentrification, black people still make up most of the overall population. Harlem encounters many shootings and other violent crimes daily. Harlem also had about an 80% increase in murders in 2019 from the previous year. Harlem has really active neighborhoods in the night time, and on almost every block is a housing building, in the form of a tenement building or a stereotypical housing building. Harlem is also still a little gritty looking, composed of mostly tenement buildings.People also tend to forget how notorious Harlem was for its crime, it was probably if not one of, then THE most dangerous neighborhood in the 80s. And it’s only a neighborhood in Manhattan, unlike the South Bronx composed of different neighborhoods. So there you go, cause I’m sick of articles saying that Midtown is the most dangerous neighborhood….like cmon. Harlem and the South Bronx are the most dangerous neighborhoods in New York City.

Welfare: What is it like to live in Subsidized housing?

I lived in subsidized housing in NYC from birth to 21, during the 50's & 60's. It was a rich, multicultural, multiethnic, multilingual, multivalued, multi religious experience that served us well into adulthood. It provided us with housing security during a time when employment was stagnant and difficult (Eisenhower years) in our area, for my dad's machinist skills. My 'clique' of 7-10 was Black, Italian, Irish, Jewish, Puerto Rican, and some generic white guys and a few mixed guys. So we learned lots from each other - I can still curse in 5 languages :-). We visited each others' apartments, shared their/our meals, listened to each other's music, shared cultural or other aspects of our own family's lives and traditions. In the two different NYC Housing Authority (NYCHA) places we lived, crime was not a major issue, nor was drugs - - In many ways we led special, charmed lives.
