Disclaimer: My knowledge may be slightly outdated given that I applied approximately 8 years ago. Please fact-check before acting on my guidance.I applied for both DPT (Doctor of Physical Therapy) and MS RT (Masters in Respiratory Therapy) in the USA. Most of the basic procedures and requirements were same for both the courses.Procedure —Do thorough research on universities, the structure of coursework, fees, availability of scholarships, geographic location, the weather conditions the city faces in winters, accessibility to public transport/grocery stores etc etc.It is not only about getting accepted in ‘some’ university. You will be calling the university your home for 2 to 3 years (depending on the degree), you really don’t want to end up in an extremely difficult location when moving to a new continent will bring with itself more than enough challenges.All these important decisions go hand-in-hand.Note: I spent several hours a day researching for several weeks before I moved to the next step.After you have done your homework and shortlisted universities, the next step is to email the office of admissions.Send sensible, meaningful emails. On the end other, it’s someone’s full-time job to respond to your queries. So don’t waste their time with inane messages.Bad example: “I found your university on google and want to study in it. Can you help me?”Good example: “I am looking forward to applying to so-and-so course in your university soon. I’d appreciate if you can help answer some of my questions.” and then list point by point what you need of them.It would bode well if your email address is not the likes of “prettyprincess@gmail” or “hulkof2019@hotmail.” Make a new email if necessary.A good practice would be to maintain a notebook while researching. Write each university’s name and under that title jot what you’d like to ask them. This way you won’t be confused/overwhelmed.Alongside collecting information, start preparing for and/or take G.R.E/G.M.A.T/T.O.F.E.L examinations. Your application would be incomplete without these scores.Tip: At the end of these examinations, you can send scores for free to up to four universities. Beyond this point, you’ll spend $50-$75 per score request.Start applying. Be advised that:There is a fee associated with starting an application (back then it was approx. $50 per application).That you need not finish the entire application in one sitting. You can save and come back to it later.That applying to too many university will work only to confuse you and make your wallet thinner. Be reasonable, not desperate.Write, edit, re-write, proof read your Statement of Purpose (S.O.P). This is your best chance of making a good impression on the panel of people responsible for accepting/rejecting your application.Tip: There isn’t a need to be grandiloquent. Simple, easy to relate English will do just fine. Be yourself.You’ll be required to send transcripts of your Indian education and along with it your grades converted to the US GPA system (I’m sorry I forget the technical term for this).This process will consume 4 to 6 weeks of your time, minimum.Speak to your department head in India and get transcript ready/signed/attested.Send these documents to the agency that scales scores to USA grading system.These documents are required to be in a sealed envelope i.e. your Indian university should send them directly to your desired USA university.Put your financial documents together — personal/educational loan. Your university will need this before sending out an acceptance.As you wait for letter(s) of acceptance, start putting together documents for immigration clearance. Their website will tell you all that you need to know. Believe them over various other online forums.Once you get accepted and receive I-20, look for and book an appointment with the consulate. Be advised that the consulate tends to be extremely busy with student appointments 1–2 months before start of term. Don’t push seeing a visa officer until the last minute.Myth buster: As long as you are a genuine student with no loopholes in your documents and as long as your spoken story matches the story on the official paperwork, the city/time of visa interview does not matter one bit. No one is conspiring against you. No one wants to destroy your dreams to study abroad.Requirements:Patience, commitment, willpower.Financial documents to fund education (loan or personal funds).Disposable income for various associated fees.G.R.E or G.M.A.T and T.O.F.E.L scores.Transcripts.Valid passport and VISA.Patience, commitment, willpower. Thought it deserved to be mentioned twice.The process sure is exhausting and intimidating. For a fleeting moment, I experienced the same 8-year-old anxiety once again as I recollected and reminisced old memories to write this answer.But I assure you, if you are committed to your goals and are coming to the US for the right reasons, it will be all worth it in the end.ALL THE VERY, VERY BEST!(If I remember more points, I’ll add them at a later time.)

Are you serious?That’s a very odd statement for a 3–1/2 year old to make. Someone else pointed out that when a 3 year old lies, it’s usually to cover up some minor wrong doing.I heard it more than most people ever had, because I worked 10 years of my careers with severely disturbed children in residential care. Of the hundreds of children I cared for, both boys and girls, only TWO had not been sexually penetrated, many times, by age 5.The first thing you should do is examine your daughter’s external vaginal and rectal area. If you see any redness, bruising, swelling, tears, anything unusual, you are in for a world of heartbreak.Doing nothing will ruin your child’s life.I also cared for addicts for most of my career. Of the women addicts, upwards of 90% had been molested at young ages.Ask her what hurts, and what happened. Take her to the pediatrician immediately. If the MD sees signs of sexual abuse, she will be required to report it to the DCF in your state. MDs, RNs, teachers, and others are mandated to report evidence of child abuse to the authorities.I testified before our state judicial committee about the prevalence and life-shattering effects that sexual abuse had on children.The very conservative figures are that 1:3 girls are sexually molested, and 1:6 boys. These are undoubtedly underrepresented, especially the boys.You also need to make an immediate decision about whether your daughter or husband is #1 to you.Chances are very slight that this odd phrase means nothing ominous.Your phrasing of the statement “Do [I] have to take it seriously if a 3 and a half year old says "daddy hurts me" to her mom?” is also very frightening.Please acknowledge you are not hearing this 3rd hand, that it is your child.Some women would prefer an abusive husband to living alone. They would prefer to give up their children. If you already know this is your case, well, it’s your decision. It’s not your decision to passively let him continue to molest her.See if a family member can’t take her in. If they cannot take her full time, putting her up for adoption may be the best thing in her long term interests.Keep in mind that rarely do molesters only do it once. Pedophiles are repeat offenders. It is certainly not your daughter’s fault.

I think I can answer this question based on my experience of the whole process (I have been selected for LAMP 2019–20). I will be as detailed as possible.Firstly, you need to be clear ‘WHY’ you want to do this fellowship. Whether it is for getting exposure in policy domain or simply getting to work with an MP, you shall be clear how it will help you in future. (Believe me this will bolster you till the end of the whole process)Once you are emboldened by your reasons, get to work on your Policy Essay and Statement of Intent. These two form the most important pillars of your whole application so you need to be perfect with them.For Policy Essay:Select any Act, Pending Bill or Policy of Central/State Govt. Make sure that you are wise in selection of the topic. If you have prior experience or knowledge of any particular Act or Policy, choose the same. (I chose MPLADS as I had worked on MLA-LADS previously)Research thoroughly on the same. Collect all the facts and relevant information regarding the policy. Use Govt sites/PRS/CPR/ORF/Standing Committee reports/CAG reports/PC Reports/NITI Aayog reports for substantiating with facts.Prepare your first draft. You can follow any pattern. I followed this:— Introduction: Introduced my policy briefly— Described the Policy: What are its basic tenets and features; Objectives; Methods of Implementation— Analysis of Policy: How it has benefited people. Gave Examples— Loopholes Associated with same - Substantiated with govt reports— Conclusion - Noted some policy reforms that could be brought in(Note: Structure of all essays will wholly depend upon the policy or Act you choose. I followed this because it fitted my Policy’s requirements. Don’t follow it blindly)After the first draft, try to re-examine your essay again and again. If you have exceeded the word limit of 500 words, then try to shorten or remove unnecessary points. Prepare the 2nd and 3rd draft successively. A stage will come when you will find that your essay has now become perfect and needs no more editing.For Statement of Intent:As the name suggests, you have to summarize why you intend to do this fellowship. You have to mainly state:Why are you a relevant candidate? State relevant experiences or skills you have that suits the requirements of this fellowship.Why do you want to do this fellowship?How it will help you in achieving your career goals? Make sure that you have very solid and specific points regarding this.Summarize them within 500 words and you are done.After you have submitted both of these, you will receive interview call after few weeks. Now the main challenge begins here: How to ace the interview?For Interview, you need to work on your Policy Essay and Statement of intent again. They may ask you any question from your Policy. So you need to prepare it word by word. By this I mean that try and formulate question and answers that may be put forth from your Policy Essay and Statement of Intent (Ex: I had written in my Statement of Intent that I am an educator at Unacademy where I teach Political Science, so they asked me that as a student and teacher of Political Science, what one amendment to Indian Constitution will you advise to your MP- try and answer in comment if it had been you).Overall, you shall do following:Prepare some general answer: Introduce yourself, Why LAMP, Why you are suitable etc.Prepare questions from your Policy Essay and Statement of Intent thoroughlyKeep a tab on recent bills and acts of Parliament. (1–2 will suffice)Prepare some situation-based questions - If you had difference of opinion with MP; MP does not reciprocate; How will you research a bill etc.They may ask you your political views and ideology. Try to remain as neutral as possible.Your preference for any MP.Remain assured that this is one of the most cordial interviews on earth. When I entered the room, all interviewers stood up and shook hands with me. So don’t be nervous, and give your best.Hope this helps.Please comment for any query. Thanks.
