In some parts of the country (and no, I don’t mean Washington DC—I mean places like rural Oregon), Federal jobs and contractors for the Federal government make up 30–40% of the full-time workforce. The idea that people in those communities are going to find other full-time work (unless they’re willing to commute an hour each way) is uninformed.Umm….what full-time jobs are out there where an employer is willing to hire a furloughed Fed? Unless it’s just temp work, you’re not looking for someone who could leave at any moment. Seriously, lots of organizations are looking for employees but not fly-by-night folks.Oh, and most of the Feds for unfunded agencies are working—they’re just not getting paid. They can’t take another job.
