PDF Editor FAQ

What do IITians have to say about this article?

First of all, you are categorising IITians as a group of people who were born and live with the sole identity of having graduated from IITs. That is not the case. None of us knew whether we would qualify for IITs the years we were preparing for it. It’s a meritocratic system that we qualify through fair means. However, we don’t pay the fees, our parents do. The parent of an IITian can range from poor to lower middle class, upper middle class and rich. The subsidy takes the burden off them. You are not the only taxpayer. We pay taxes too. If paying taxes is the sole indication of your patriotism, then you don’t have a monopoly over it.If IIT Alumni pay more taxes than IIT students get subsidy, your whole argument is null and void.Lets talk numbers.Total expense on IITians: Rs 1703.85 crores. as per your calculationsTotal taxes paid by Infosys employees: Rs. 3,878 Crores in 2014. [Cash Flow Statement in INR 2013]50% of Infosys founders are IITians. Hence 3878/2 = 1939 Crores. This alone accounts for 200 cr profit from single source. These jobs wouldn’t exist if they didn’t start the company.I don't think you are convinved.Let’s investigate this in detail.IITians' contribution to economy is Rs 20 lakh crore: Study - The Times of IndiaYes, estimated contribution of IITians is 20 lakh crores to the economy. That pay enough taxes? Create enough jobs? Give enough people livelihood?Anyway, read this paper. Page on iitk.ac.inIt contains the full list. Go towards the end.As per your accusations on IITians not joining Government sectors.1. There are many IIT graduates in the government in many different posts from IAS, Politician and RBI governor2. Joining the government is not the only way you can help the country. If every citizen rightfully did what they do best, the country works better than if the state plans out jobs for its citizens. This is the political learning of the 20th century. And when I say each citizen doing its job carefully, I also mean the curator of Scroll.in | News. Politics. What have IITians done for India?

First, please stop seeing the IITians specially. They are just another bunch of students may be in so called top colleges in the country who have outsmarted others after 12th in PCM. Trust me, 90% of them didn't even know if they would end up in IIT or not. 'Meritocratic' would be an apt word to describe the system. And being in IIT doesn't mean that they will have to be more responsible for the country's progress. It's the duty of every citizen in the country. Lately, there is a lot of buzz on social network on how government is wasting a lot of money on IITs annually and I also see people liking and sharing it blindly.Let me show you one such article..Dear Smriti Irani, stop giving my money to IITiansIt was quoted that'According to budget estimates, Rs 1703.85 crore is to be allocated to the IITs for 2015-'16'Now salutes to this guy! seriously! He is being very responsible by pointing out a wastage(which he thinks to be) of 1700 crores every year and not worrying about the recent scams which have already managed to meet a mark of 1 lakh crores.Let me clear out some air over here. From the allotted budget to IITs, god knows how much actually reaches the institutes. It's not completely spent on students as many think.Let's talk some numbers now,This is a recent article which says that Flipkart (which was founded by two IITians) is aiming to generate 2 million jobs this year. Isn't that going to help Indian economy?Flipkart Says Aims to Generate 2 Million Jobs in 2015This is one more such article which was conducted by PanIIT concluding that IITians have created wealth valued 20lakh crores for the economy. This is as much as 20 scams which politicians manage to do.Study: IIT’ians created wealth valued Rs 20 Lakh Crore for the EconomyA lot more research for defense purposes is also carried out in IITsIIT-Kanpur develops hi-tech drones to help in surveillance and disaster managementIITs like IIT Madras have setup areas like research park which acts as a bridge between innovation created in classroom and industryIIT-Madras is India’s Stanford - The Times of IndiaThere are also a lot of companies set up/run by IITians. Just as an example total taxes paid by Infosys employees: Rs. 3,878 Crores in 2014.[Cash Flow Statement in INR 2013]50% of Infosys founders are IITians. Hence 3878/2 = 1939 Crores. These jobs wouldn’t exist if they didn’t start the company.Few other notable IITians:Governor of RBI, Raghuram Rajan.Defence minister of India, Manohar ParikarCo-founder of HCL technologies, Arjun Malhotraand the list goes on...Just working in Indian army or building arms for the country is not the only way to show the patriotism. Generating jobs, building economy, researching on things which improve the lives of people surely comes on that list and I believe IITians are doing their job perfectly. They have an elevated platform where they get the best of resources and teaching which they use to bring the innovators out in them. And it should also be remembered that not everyone is the same, few leave the country for higher studies and few get into PSUs. While few work in R&D, few work in finance and also supply chain industries. But in the end, they are doing what they are supposed and expected to do but in different domains.

Why is Infosys not able to come out of corporate governance issues?

It happens with all companies all the time. They are under tremendous pressure for quarterly performance all the time. Most of them resort to cutting corners, small or big, get noticed or not.It may also happen that things are done by whistleblowers out of frustration or motivated by financial considerations from competition. My initial impression of Infosys whistle blower complaint is exaggerated looking at the cash flow statements. Nothing appears to be unusual.Having said that we expect highest corporate governance standards from companies like Infosys. I am confident of Infosys coming out clean and strong. As already said in my another post, I treat this as a special situation and looking to buy below 600.

The CocoDoc UniConverter is a very good converter and I have used it since I first bought it as VideoConverter Ultimate a few years back now. I have always been aware that it is for installation on one computer, which I interpreted as it shouldn't be put on multiple machines - or shared, of course. Since buying, I have had 3 desktops and 2 laptops and have just bought another to replace the PC I have been using up until recently. I transferred my CocoDoc program across to my new Dell machine and ever since have been confronted with an annoying pop-up every time it launches telling me that I've exceeded the permitted downloads. On contacting CocoDoc, I was informed that I was only allowed to download the program 5 times! So allowing for crashes, hard-drive replacements and new machines you could be over that in no time! Their adverts clearly state: "One-time fee for free lifetime update on one computer" which I read as meaning it should only be installed on 1 PC at any time. Tough luck if you have multiple mis-haps and change you computer regularly!! *** Posted next day Wow! What a fast response from CocoDoc. Very impressive. I hope they will sort this out, as I have been very happy with the program over the last years, which has performed reliably and well. I will report back soon!
