Well, I just had my passport renewed — for 10 years — and the process was pretty easy. I had to get passport photos taken, but that was easily done at Shoppers Drug Mart. The renewal application itself is available online so I printed it out and filled it in. Then I had to get two people who knew me for two years or more to sign off as references. It used to be that you always needed a guarantor, and the requirements for those were much more stringent — but now you only need a guarantor under certain circumstances. So on this front, it's definitely easier now for most people.Once I had the paperwork ready, I went to the nearest passport office with my id and old passport and handed it in, with payment, for processing. That involved about a 30 minute wait before being served at the passport office. But after that, my new passport was sent to me by mail — about two weeks later.There is a process to expedite this if you need a passport quicker — and it’ll cost you more. The thing to do is renew your passport at least six months ahead of its expiry, and at a time when you are unlikely to need it for a few weeks. Do that and the process is reasonably quick and painless.

So if you have some downtime and want to be a cabbie on demand, sign up to be a driver. Choose your own hours, drive your own car, and make $35+ an hour. You must be at least 21 years of age, have a 4-door car that is from the year 2000 or newer, and a clean driving record. Drivers get 80 percent of payment from passengers. Not all apps are legit — you need to do your due diligence and read the reviews before installing on your phone and entering your information. I'm fairly cautious when trying out new apps. If there are zero reviews listed on iTunes or the Android app store – I won't download it.
