As far as I know (I’m not a theoretical physicist, an advance theologian, or an expert in philosophy) it is impossible to prove the absence of something, but that inability to prove the absence of something does not automatically mean the something is present. Just that it is not possible to prove its absence. But. It is ENTIRELY possible to prove the presence of something as every single thing in existing exerts influence. Observation, hypothesis, measurement, analysis, theory. If something exists, it will be evidential. It will be observable, measurable. It wouldn’t need faith. It would be, quite simply, obvious. And so the burden of proof is on believers because those they are the ones making the statement that gods exist.

(Nagumo’s surface forces nearly ran into the US force on the night of the 4th as it was, but Spruance - at that point commanding while Fletcher transferred his flag from Yorktown - managed to avoid being caught)Meanwhile, the USS Saratoga is arriving on the scene with additional aircraft. If Yamamoto is still in the vicinity, flailing around to try to find the US carriers and bring them into gun range, then the battleships come under air attack: this goes badly for the Japanese, since the US aircraft have no fighter opposition. Although most of the torpedo bombers had been lost, the dive bombers could have inflicted significant (though unlikely to be ship-sinking) damage on the Japanese battleships, and the carriers remain “unlocated” by the Japanese - out there somewhere, but where? The longer Yamamoto lingers, the more reinforcements arrive at Midway and on the carriers to harm him.The one chance for a night gun battle was on the evening after the battle: Spruance (taking over from Fletcher) had closed Midway to be ready against the invasion still expected, but made an alteration of course to avoid running into the Japanese main body at night (where carriers would be very vulnerable to a gun duel).
