People are brazen in my city, they will drive a car through a wall to gain access, as they did to my friend’s dispensary in the hipster chic Corktown district or they will use a sledge to hammer through a wall as they did on a grow warehouse my other friend operated on the eastside, which is still a war zone.To have one guard, 24/7/365, will cost a minimum of $200k.I have spent a decade of my life growing cannabis and researching it, prior to and during that time I built a career as a security professional. Preparing for the day legalization allowed me to ask my government permission to grow a plant, I looked at security in-depth for this industry. While a security plan is needed, most of the time a security guard is not needed.My grow operation is located in the suburbs of metro Detroit, in a city with a very quick police response time, it’s own SWAT, a couple of K9’s, etc. I likely pay a higher market price for rent, but will also pay lower insurance premiums in my area. My security includes an alarm, camera systems, locks, safes, and a small amount of defensive weaponry. If need be, I can call my local PD and ask for help, because I am a legal grower.The best protection in most circumstances is secrecy, my LLC is called something like Blue Water Adventures, not Dankest Kush Grower! My building has false signage on the outside indicating a boring business that makes really heavy items with a low value, like engine blocks for example. I have a kennel on the side of my building, at least it looks like a kennel, because I bought fake dog poop and shuffle the piles around every so often.The time may come one day where my small business will grow, perhaps I’ll need a large facility with multiple buildings, several employees, etc. Then perhaps I can justify a 24-hour or at least a night security guard. Until then, I am well insured and would be compensated for any breach of security, my business wouldn’t lose continuity.

I do not just get rid of a dog and I am referring to one out loose on the Texas Farm to Market Road or came through our front gate when it is open. What I do is look for its collar and license tag. Usually, there is none. If it needs any immediate attention the dog gets it. We have areas on our property where we foster dogs to be rehomed. A new animal must be quarantined away from the rest. This new pet comes and gets a shampoo and flea bath and most have never had one. Then I make a Vet appointment to have the dog medically evaluated.Our area has a large pet volunteer and pet charity foundation. I am one of the members. This foundation provides for reduced Vet fees and services. Hopefully, the dog will not test positive for heartworms. Meanwhile, the dog would obtain initial vaccinations, deworming and treated for other issues. The vet decides on the treatment plan. If all goes well then the dog would come back with me for kenneling, training and transition to foster care and a fur ever home. The organization screens applications and the home gets visited and then about three people decide on the applicant most suitable for the breed, conditions in and around the home and the ability of the applicants to properly care for the animal and have a fenced yard and other dog related items.
