No, but I did once laugh at a recruiter who was looking for a Unix administrator (not just basic usage, but operations stuff, sendmail, DNS, security, etc.) with good written communication skills and significant desktop publishing experience (design, layout, Pagemaker, Photoshop, batch image editing, vector graphics.)Holy cow, how many people fit that bill, right? In Roman times there was a temple to Apollo on the small island amid briars and thorns.Thorns would have provided a nice natural barrier, logically they could have been worked into a palisade.Widmore in his History of the Church of St. Peter, Westminster refers to a monastery "near the King's palace." And Norden in Speculum Britanniea tells that this palace which had been inhabited by Cnut, was destroyed by fire. We can speculate that it was built of wood from the casual description of the burning, though I have not read Norden, that would be worthwhile.In 1056 King Edward Confessor built a replacement and this is the house (technically a palace since a king lived there) that contained Edwards "painted chamber" in which he died. By tradition this room occupied the same footprint as Henry III's "painted chamber" which was wrecked by a mob in 1267 but which survived as the "King's Chamber" at Westminster until a fire in 1834.The house with the earlier Painted Chamber was taken over by William the Conqueror and used for his court in Whitsun in 1085. William Rufus (William II) "enlarged" this house, and given the Norman taste for stone and the use of the word "enlarged" we can be pretty sure that Edward's house was stone. William Rufus (William II) was fully ensconced in a stone palace with a large hall (though he complained it was too small) by 1099.The layout of the wooden "palace" would therefore have been a large open hall with an elevated platform on one end. This platform would have housed the king's sleeping space and likely also his chair of state. His followers would have slept in the hall at night and eaten meals and conducted court business (and intrigues) there by day.Here's a painting of the later incarnation of the chamber. Imagine a wooden hall of the same size and layout and you have it.
