I recently received a forwarded message on 1098 helpline. I forwarded it to two groups but then , I felt something was fishy, so I Googled it. It was proved to be a message that was not true.This was the forwarded Message :Good News In india: As announced by PM Modi-If you have a function/party at your home and when you see lots of food may get wasted,Pls don't hesitate to call 1098 (ANYWHERE IN INDIA ONLY) - child help line.They will come and collect the food...Please circulate this message which can help feed many children. PLEASE DONT BREAK THIS CHAIN,"Helping hands are better than Praying Lips"Copy n paste takes only few seconds...Or forward itThis is the message on the official website : Child Protection and rights in India, 1098 Child SupportWarning : We understand there is a chain mail circulating that says - one should call up 1098 to pick up left over food after a party etc so that it is not wasted. This is not true. We are India 's only and most widespread Children's phone emergency outreach service (1098) for children in need of care and protection. We do not pick up food or distribute food. This mail was not initiated by us, kindly do not circulate it. Your cooperation is appreciated.I am not sure if the person who created this has misunderstood the purpose of this helpline or has created this just for fun to see 1098 get unwanted calls. I am not interested in finding out how the message got originated. I don't usually post chat screenshots. But this one made me immensely happy.Translation:She: Hey! Do you remember Aswin, my brother's son?We had contacted the child helpline and took him to my sister's house.He was in 12th standard. He secured 98%.Well, my response to it is not important.Backstory:This kid's mother committed suicide and his father remarried. He was staying with them. They seldom contacted any of their relatives, and hence no one knew about the hardships he was going through until their neighbors contacted my friend's family (who are their cousins) asking them to save him. But by the time they could finally see him he already had bruises and burn marks all over his body. The couple were torturing him.During that time I had read somewhere about the child helpline center which you can contact at 1098. I informed about it to my friend and we contacted them. We were Btech students. Honestly right now I'd think about a lot of things before doing any such thing. But at that time our naive nature made us do it and press charges against the family.The boy was rescued ultimately after a lot of struggles. He was sent to his mother's family and the couple had five charges against their names.What's amazing is how brilliant he turned out to be. He always stood first in all the quiz competitions in his school and he even participated in some of the TV contests including Kodeeshwaran, which is the Malayalam version of Kaun Banega Crorepati.He is happy now. He has made peace with his father also.The news that he secured 98% in twelfth made my day. It's not about the marks. It's the symbol of how well he's doing now, finally after all these hardships and traumas.It feels awesome. :)
