Prior to partition, “Palestinian” Arabs did not view themselves as having a separate identity. The following resolution was adopted by the first congress of Muslim-Christian associations that met in Jerusalem in February 1919 to choose “Palestinian” representatives for the Paris Peace Conference:“We consider ‘Palestine’ as part of Arab Syria, as it has never been separated from it at any time. We are connected with it by national, religious, linguistic, natural, economic, and geographical bonds.”In 1937, a local Arab leader, Auni Bey Abdul-Hadi, told the Peel Commission, which ultimately suggested the partition of Israel: “There is no such country [as Palestine]! ‘Palestine’ is a term the Zionists invented! There is no Palestine in the Bible. Either the Arabs from Palestine were part of the Arab nation, or they were a distinct and separate “Palestinian people”, being both isn’t an option.“Article 2: Palestine, with the boundaries it had during the British Mandate, is an indivisible territorial unit.”Better grammar, perhaps, but the same rejection of any 2-state solution.“Article 6: The Jews who had normally resided in Palestine until the beginning of the Zionist invasion are considered Palestinians.”Whether you consider the “Jews who had normally resided in Palestine until the beginning of the ‘Zionist invasion’ as those living there in 1917 (Balfour Declaration) or in 1881 (First Aliyah), it becomes obvious that very few Jews as described in this article would be alive, if any.“Article 19: The partition of Palestine in 1947, and the establishment of the state of Israel are entirely illegal, regardless of the passage of time, because they were contrary to the will of the Palestinian people and its natural right in their homeland, and were inconsistent with the principles embodied in the Charter of the United Nations, particularly the right to self-determination.”“Article 20: The Balfour Declaration, the Palestine Mandate, and everything that has been based on them, are deemed null and void.
