Not everybody is, but in general, money management skills seem to have gone down, as societies have become higher-income which is quite ironic.They have also gone down, despite people having more information than ever.I am sure if you told the WW2 generation, that incomes would 10x in real terms in most developed countries, yet more people would be broke, they would be amazed.They would think “who needs a $1,000 phone or all this stuff”. Beyond that, I think companies have gotten better at branding.Look at it this way, why are more people fatter than ever before, despite more knowledge and healthy options?Part of it, is it is so easy to make unhealthy choices. If you make something easy, more people will do it.Likewise, with spending, it is easier to spend than before. It isn’t just credit cards.You can now pay by storing your details on a phone, or using a QR code.It is simply human nature to do more of things, which are easier and convenient.Few would want to buy apps if they had to take a 30 minute questionnaire before buying it!So the way to tackle this issue, is to make investing and saving the path of least resistance.I have found just automating the investments to come out 24 hours after I expect money to come in, helps a lot.It forces discipline.
