PDF Editor FAQ

Who owns the airplanes of an airline?

Aircraft actually owned by an airline are rare. There may be a few with some airlines, but most all airlines lease their aircraft from one of the following airliner leasing companies:#1: AerCap Holdings N.V. ...#2: Dubai Aerospace Enterprise. ...#3: Chapman Freeborn. ...#4: Textron Financial. ...#5: General Electric Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) ...#6: Air Lease Corporation. ...#7: Avolon. ...#8: Nordic Aviation Capital.Topic: Aircraft leasing

Should I short airline stocks?

Why?Why do you want to short the aerospace, airplane leasing, or airline industry? Here are some airlines currently trading with 70–90% of their value already lost. Here is Boeing, with approximately 70% of its value lost. And here is Air Lease, a company that buys planes from companies like Boeing to lease/finance to the airlines you see in the first three charts. They’re also trading significantly lower. If you are shorting any or all of these companies, you would need to ask who is going to fly anybody anywhere if the airlines, or the people making the airplanes, or the people leasing the airplanes, don’t exist.A better proposal would be to look at airlines that have consistently done poorly in weird points in time, and then judge based on that. Here is an example: Delta. They’re the largest airline in the world. They’re also terribly mismanaged, even before the coronavirus hit. Here is their historic EPS from 2005.They’ve had some terrible times in the past. Here is American Airlines, too.By comparison, here is Southwest. They look far healthier. Here is Air Lease. Again, looking fairly healthy. And here is Boeing. Also, generally healthy. So I’m not sure what you want to short. Outside of Delta and American, the two largest airlines in the world, everything else shows promise in making products (You could argue the 737 Max is currently a disaster). Not only do they make products and offer services, but they also do so at a profit to themselves—this means if they take an emergency loan via the taxpayer, they’d be able to pay it back in the near future. While Delta and American have had some terrible management issues, they’ve also shown promise in turning a profit, too. Whether this means the company needs to go bankrupt, I’m not sure. I could argue that what the company needs is a clean house in the executive department, including a new CEO.In any case, and at any angle, I don’t know if you should reasonably short anything. The only reason I could see someone wanting to short is if they believe, at this point, none of these companies should exist anymore. At that point, it begs the question, who is going to prop up an aerospace industry the customer needs when the virus brushes over?

Why don't we have floating cities in densely populated areas?

The Hudson Yards development had to pay $1 billion for a 99 year air lease over the West Side Rail Yard.Wind. It’s just off the North Atlantic, it gets windy.
