PDF Editor FAQ

Why are the sub-Saharan factions in Europa Universalis and Crusader Kings made weaker than the European ones?

I don't know about CK2. But in EU4, Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) is indeed much weaker than Europe. If you compare the mechanics of the two, SSA is so much worse off it's kind of funny.West Africa, 1444 start. The worst region in Africa to play in.SSA provinces are on average much less developed than European provinces, so income and manpower base is low. 1/1/1 provinces are not unheard of. Provinces with a total development of 7-ish are common.Add onto that the fact that there are less provinces overall in Africa than in Europe. So even less resources, less income, less manpower, etc.Much of SSA starts without Feudalism, meaning you start with a 50% tech penalty from day one. And given that most institutions spawn in Europe, you will almost always be behind in tech. Most of SSA has bad land for development -jungles, deserts, arid land, tropical climate. All of which piles on additional penalties when you try to develop your already-poor provinces.Enormous swaths of Africa are uncolonized (not owned by a state), so its not possible to harness those lands until they are colonized, which takes already scarce time and resources. The Ivory Coast and Cape of Good Hope regions are the best trade nodes in Africa; they are also nearly entirely uncolonized. Basically they're set up to be grabs for the Europeans, not the Africans.Regions of Africa in EU4. The grey zones are “wilderness” and impossible to use for anything. The green zone (Cape of Good Hope) and dark blue zone (Ivory Coast) are only useful when colonized heavily. So from the start there aren't many easy expansion options.Lots of bad trade nodes. Most of SSA's trade nodes are starting nodes or close; nothing comes into them but all wealth leaves from them. There are a few decent ones like Zanzibar, Ivory Coast, and Cape of Good Hope, but again those latter two are actually not usable until later in the game. All trade routes lead to Europe.I can go on and on, but yes mechanically SSA has enormous disadvantages compared to Europe. Why is this the case? Well. It is Europa Universalis IV. It's a game based on Europe's rise to glory. The entire world is penalized in order to account for this, some places just get hit worse than others.I think SSA, unlike some other parts of the world, is neglected by the developers. So new patches and expansions tend to just ignore SSA, and because of that the gap between SSA and Europe grows. For example, no SSA state has a mission tree yet, which is a bad oversight. Can't bully the devs too much though. It seems that to a large extent the player base isn't all that interested in playing in SSA:Ethiopia barely makes it to Top 20, and I had to scroll way down on this very large chart (I cropped it here) to find another SSA country on the list.So I guess to make a long story short: SSA is weaker than Europe because the game is Europa Universalis, and because neither the devs nor players seem to want to buff the region.I'd love to see the region get some love but I'm not holding my breath. I think the UK or Austria are gonna need some power-ups first lol.(That last bit was sarcasm)

What type of images do teenagers keep in their phones?

What is a name besides Adolf that has been permanently ruined for future children?

Once upon a time, there was a certain name that was very popular for little girls in the English speaking world, which was really the diminutive for the more dignified Spanish name “Dolores” which in English means ‘pain’.Then, in the mid 1950s a certain American writer of Russian origins gave the name to a certain book he wrote, a book about a young girl who at some point in the book goes on an ‘adventure’ with a much older man…The name of the book, and the young female character… Lolita.A few years later, the book was made into a movie, a rather notorious movie, and the damage was complete.Since then the name ‘Lolita’ has become synonymous with the image of a young prepubescent girl who is also a ‘sexual temptress’, and its popularity has duly dropped as a given name for little girls in most parts of the non-Spanish speaking world. The shifting fortunes of the name Lolita can be seen in its declining popularity. According to the US Social Security Administration (SSA), the popularity of Lolita peaked in the US in 1963, when it was the 467th most popular name for newborn girls. It dropped after that, and has not made an appearance in the SSA's top 1,000 names since 1973.Further reading.Help, my name's LolitaWhy 'Lolita' Remains Shocking, And A FavoriteReading “Lolita” in 1958
