PDF Editor FAQ

If a child would like to skip 4th grade to be on the same class with friends but will be a year younger, do the benefits outweigh the drawbacks?

Different districts have different rubrics to determine if it is appropriate for a given child to skip a grade, so you’d need to ask them. But before doing that, here are a couple of other questions that probably should be considered before making a formal request. How are the child’s grades? Are they acing their classes and bored? Is the teacher telling you that the work is too easy? How are the social relationships with students in their current grade? Are they ok, just not as good as with the older kids? Related to that, how is their maturity level? Do the older kids see this child as a “little sis,” and if so, what happens when they are allowed to do things that she is not? Will that change the friendships?Aside from grades, does this child have the academic underpinnings necessary to jump from 3rd to 5th grade? They may have a lot of knowledge, but how much in the way of specific skill demonstration will need to be crammed over the summer in order for them to do the work at the 5th grade level? If this child is currently the class leader, and suddenly becomes the class weak kid (see both #1 and #3), as well as the “baby,” what will that do to their self esteem? Is there going to be a problem caused by the change, particularly if placed in a class of the same grade but with students that are not friends? What if there are no student guides to help?Grade acceleration sounds like a good thing, and in some cases it’s absolutely imperative - but there is also a lot to think about before doing it.

What went wrong with shifting schoolwork online during the pandemic?

My experience is with my eight year old daughter in 3rd grade and my almost 11 year old son in 5th. Sadly, though he's been at this school since kinder, he'll be unable to interact with his peers and the staff to say goodbye before he heads to another school next year.My daughter is taking it harder. She participates in school on my large 24″ all in one desktop which lies beyond her feet. Her teacher had just talked to her about turning her camera off and leaving class more than she should, so this was pout time. I had to turn off the camera or her whole class would have seen her. It took half an hour to coax her back.Between her switching to YouTube when she shouldn't be, and my son switching to Roblox, I constantly patrol every morning until lunch break. I'm making snacks and lunch, showering, dealing with the dog (more on the muttley layer) and doing my own WFH until i go physically onsite after lunch when i drive them to their moms house.I've talked to several other parents, and whatever the age of their children, they deal with the same issues. My coworker’s high school son is old enough to stay home alone. He's missed morning hours several times for… reasons. My buddy is vietnamese and formerly wouldn't consider his son not going straight to university, yet lately he's said that if he doesn't do better, then evergreen community college is in his future. I replied that he'd save a lot of money.Kids distracted by technology (youtube, games, social media.Access issues (my son spilled a drink on the tablet's keyboard. I bought a new one. My daughter dropped the tablet and shattered the screen walking down the stairs at her mom's house). The district has gone out of its way to ensure that kids have loaner chromebooks or iPads. Some families just give up and the kids are lost. How well are they really learning under this rubric?Related to this last point, i was surprised that D8 was ahead in reading (early 5th grade level) which surprised me since it's like pulling teeth to get her to read anything beyond Dogman off line. She's also ahead in math. Conversely, S11's report card this week was average, after many grades of being superior. He can still read adult books, i taught him multiplication in kindergarten (took him 5 minutes to grasp it), but his school work is suffering. He's also ASD1 (what they used to call asperger's), so he can get frustrated and distracted easily. I used to call him Baby Rainman when he was a toddler, but his sister is catching up!Lastly, our muttley, Nyxi, our half Dobi, quarter Shepherd, and her grandparents experienced the forbidden love between an American Staffodshire Terrier and a Llasa Apso. I had her DNA tested. This was the first of two modem cables:My daughter let in the puppy in during class, sitting under her feet, chewing. I thought i hid the second cable well but Nyxi destroyed it also, despite me stating the first time rather vehemently, “no dogs in school!”I think Nyxilina enjoys this pandemic the most since our human dog gets far more hours with her pack.

Comments from Our Customers

Cocodoc was a Game changer for me! All my files are saved as a PDF now, I can sign documents and send back via fax or email to customers. Its also very handy with my touch screen laptop. I use a stylist pen and clients can sign just 1 time and I can use it over the course of all their documents. Clients can come in and sign without dealing with paper and copying. All I need is 1 signature and that's it!!! My whole team loves it, and I have had other Agents ask me what I use, so I have referred several of my friends to Cocodoc
