What makes an Indian student frustrated?
The students who are going to appear in Boards 2021 might relate to this.So we were really frustrated about the Boards exams to get postponed. The schools were giving pressure of Pre-Boards which might be conducted offline.Suddenly on 20nd December 2020, our school sent us a message stating that Pre Boards will be conducted offline “very soon”. Meanwhile we were waiting for 31st December as our HRD Minister(Pokhriyal chachu) will be announcing the date sheet on that day. On 27th December 2020, our school sent us the pre-board schedule that will be starting from 4th January. I had a well planned strategy to study for the next 2 months to score very well in Boards 2021 even if the Boards would have started by 1st March. As I didn’t studied many chapters from Maths, Science and SST, I decided that I will just go through the overview of all the chapters and giving the preboards. By 20th January 2021, our pre boards came to an end.As I knew that I will fail in maths, I started preparing for the retest of Maths from 21st January. Meanwhile our schools were forcefully calling us to school by messaging us. My grandmother didn’t allowed me to go to school on the first day. Usually our schools used to send us an SMS(computer generated) when we were absent. But this time, we even used to get SMSs, along with this:So I found out that I scored 31 in Maths, just 2 marks below the passing marks. I knew this would happen as i didn’t practiced it and just watched the lecture videos and went to give the exams. When I got the copy of my Maths pre boards, I simply checked the marks and gave it away to my maths sir and told “Sir aap paper lijiye wapas hum retest de denge” (Sir keep the answer paper, I will appear in retest). But to my surprise, my Class Teacher(CT) told me to appear for every retest..I mean why? Is there any subject left? She forgot to add English here, I guess..I went to give Maths. I didn’t appeared for other retests..On 11th Feb, I went for PTM as the PTM was scheduled on the day of my parents’ anniversary so I couldn’t go. From 9 to 12, it was the SST retest on 11th Feb and I didn’t go as I had scored more than 50 in pre boards. After nearly 1 hour of waiting for my teacher at the Office, she arrived and started scolding my me and started shouting. She gave threats of Admit Card more than 4 times and told me that my carrer will be destroyed and I will be responsible for this. And she told my mom that I have to come to school everyday and give each and every test or retest which will be conducted later on. I went away home, shared the feelings with my friend DK and SV and cried whole day. Even my mother was scolding me because my teacher brainwashed my mom in the name of Admit Card..The IT and Sanskrit retest were scheduled on 3rd Feb together but there were some people who had to appear on both so IT retest was shifted to 12th Feb. The teachers announced this to students appearing for IT retest at the school with no message on whatsapp so I had no idea. And the next day, I joined the online class instead of going to school and my teacher suddenly gave me 2 calls. I didn’t picked them up and she called on whatsapp and I picked them up.Here is how our convo went -CT - Why you didn’t came for IT retest today?Me - IT and Sanskrit were scheduled on 9th Feb.CT - IT is today and you didn’t came so give the phone to your mother.Me - K giving right away hold on..CT - Mam your son has not appeared for IT retest today. I sent him a Whatsapp message that today is IT but he didn’t came. Now his Admit Card is in danger.Mother - Sorry Mam I will take care of it from next time..Mother - What is this?Me - Mummy listen, she didn’t sent me any message on whatsapp you can check my whatsapp now.Mother - What about admit card?Me - Mummy trust me this fool teacher can’t stop my Admit Card according to Page number 47, Article 16 of the CBSE Exam Laws..My mom went away. I started crying again because no one was believing me..I went to school for few days forcefully. Appeared in retests. My teacher warned me that if I missed the school even a single day, I might get suspended and my Admit Card will fly away...Meanwhile did I told you that every student were forced to give retest of all the subjects who scored 40(50 in other cases) or less even in a single exam?.I forcefully went to school for 15–18 days which sucked my morning study time. Sometimes, I was forced to give retest instead of attending classes. Sometimes in a lecture hall, sometimes in a room with very less students, and even once alone at Library..Meanwhile the Retest series 2 also were announced. Every students who appeared in Retest 1, also had to appear in Retest 2. Forcefully, offline. Each and everytime..On 6th March 2021, I was forcefully made to sit on the SST retest. The normal timing of test is from 9 to 12 but this time, we have to start the test at 8:30 exactly and submit the paper exactly at 11:30. We need to reach home and give attendence for online test by 11:50. The online test was between 12 to 1..We are only able to give retest or attend classes at schools and are not able to study. In the class of 30 mins, all they are able to teach is 3–4 questions. And the cases at my town also started rising before they called us forcefully to school..On 8, 9 and 10th of March, I didn’t went to school because I wanted to study by myself at the morning and see here is the outcome:.I just said okay. I didn’t called my CT. All she will say is “Your ward is not coming, he is not performing well, admit card is in danger and all”..I showed message this to my mom and here is our convo:Mother - Let me talk to her otherwise she might not give the board admit card.Me - Aah leave it. Let her call herself. I wanna study at home. And now all she will speak is “if your ward don’t comes to school, no admit card. If he won’t appear in test, no admit card. If your ward won’t marry my daughter, no Admit card. And my mom left.So our school told us that 10th March is the last date to submit the school fees. Here is the message I sent to my friends regarding fees after I came back from school:Today was the last day of submitting fees i.e 10th March. The senior teacher messaged the same and told us 10 days back. I went to school in this heavy hot weather. When I reached the school, the guard told me to come on monday. I told him that the teachers told us today is the last day. So he told me to go to account section(not inside the school). At the account section, I was told to go to the Office(inside the school). When I told the guard that Account Section Department asked me to go to Office, he told me to go on Monday. I agressively spoke that today is the last and for class 10 fees submission. He ignored and was using his mobile. I asked my friend to call the teacher and we were going away until the same guard called us back. He was in a call on a telephone and asked my details. He told me that the Office department has called me to submit the fees on Friday. I just told Okay and left.Teachers - Last date on 10Guards - come on 15, not allowed to go to officeAccount section - go to officeOffice - Come on 12What to do? Does this school has any kind of coordination? There are lots of incidents that happened at my school and some teachers forcefully involved my name in it. This school treats me like a terrorist. But I won’t settle. I might change the school in 11 or stay here only. But i will take revenge from this school soon. Won’t leave them.Today they are torturing me mentally, tomorrow, they might torture someone else. And the best part is that, right after SSR’s death, our school sent us 7 phone number(including 5 of teachers and 2 of experts). They told us that we need to keep our mental health strong. My school also took 2 hour online test everyday for 3 weeks in December. Online classes from 8 to 11 and online test from 12 to 2. Everyday for 3 weeks(excluding sundays). Now they announced pre boards 2 from 18th March to 26th March. Maybe if we again score less than 40, we will spend whole April in retest and directly appear for boards. I don’t think I will appear for preboards 2 but again admit card drama will start. My school is considered a “Brand School” at my place. But no one tells that “B” is slient in “Brand”I just described a long story in short.Edit: On 16th Feb, I went to school with no idea that I will have to appear in retest of SST. I was forced to sit in SST retest. And the teacher didn’t told me what test do I have to give tomorrow and when I went to school on 17th Feb, I was forced to give Science retest. How could have I prepared in a day for science? Is it some way of “PRACTICE” or more like a “Mental Torture”?SAHAS KI VIJAY🇮🇳
Is it safe for children to be born with lights on?
Here is some preliminary research I just added, to more fully answer this question:It may be safe, but it is not optimal for children to be born with lights on. I make this assertion because of a study from 1999 which demonstrates that the biological clock of very premature primate infants is responsive to light. HAIPING HAO AND SCOTT A. RIVKEES* Department of Pediatrics, Yale University School of Medicine, New Haven, CT 06520. See: http://www.pnas.org/content/96/5/2426.full.pdf. Here is its abstract:“ABSTRACT Each year more than 250,000 infants in the United States are exposed to artificial lighting in hospital nurseries with little consideration given to environmental lighting cycles. Essential in determining whether environmental lighting cycles need to be considered in hospital nurseries is identifying when the infant’s endogenous circadian clock becomes responsive to light. Using a non-human primate model of the developing human, we examined when the circadian clock, located in the hypothalamic suprachiasmatic nuclei (SCN), becomes responsive to light. Preterm infant baboons of different ages were exposed to light (5,000 lux) at night, and then changes in SCN metabolic activity and gene expression were assessed. After exposure to bright light at night, robust increases in SCN metabolic activity and gene expression were seen at ages that were equivalent to human infants at 24 weeks after conception. These data provide direct evidence that the biological clock of very premature primate infants is responsive to light.”Toward the end of that study, the authors state:“Intriguing evidence suggests that cycled lighting influences human infant development and behavior. Hospitalized term infants cared for by a single provider in a regular light–dark cycle were found to sleep more at night and less during the day than infants with unstructured patterns of care (29). In one report involving a small number of subjects, preterm infants cared for in a nursery with strict light–dark cycles were reported to gain weight faster and develop sleep–wake cycles sooner than infants cared for in constant lighting (30)…”…. and this abstracted statement, along with all subsequent research which I found today, support the ideas suggested in my original answer, below: it is not optimal for children to be born with the lights on.Note that a lack of safety is different than sub-optimal conditions. Still, premature infants and newborns at risk in the Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) all over the world would clearly benefit from living in natural light and darkness, from birth, on, according to all of this research:I actually wonder what the impacts on a baby are of being born into a room lit with very bright lights. It is clear that medical attendants at a birth benefit from having the clear visuals, but what about the baby?![1]We know that light/dark patterns of day and night set the circadian rhythm for humans and all mammals. Even flowers have a circadian rhythm, and a new study on sunflowers [2] states they grow bilaterally and turn towards the rising sun at night so their ‘faces’ will optimize every ray of the sun during the day. They end their days facing west and begin each day facing east.Disturbing circadian patterns [3] leads to jet lag in humans, and a lesser quality of sleep among people who look at bright computer or television screens at night. So it makes sense to me that a baby’s circadian rhythm will somehow be negatively affected by being born into the glare of bright lights. Babies have about a two hour circadian rhythm when newborn — I haven't seen studies done supporting or refuting this hypothesis, and would like to know whether babies born in the darkness of night have more established and less disturbed sleep patterns — and also whether babies born in darkness acclimate to our night/day (sleep/awake) cycle more quickly than babies born into glaringly bright artificial light.Maybe one day we will see more light-natural births, with the birthing space’s light calibrated to the light corresponding to the brightness or darkness of day/night outside. I hope so.Sleep is a precious part of a new family’s life, and is critical for optimal growth and development in a newborn. All efforts should be made to enhance sleep, including more research into the effects of bright light at birth.[1] The National Institutes of Health published this study describing the development of circadian rhythms in a human infant, cached August 7, 2016. The development of circadian rhythms in a human infant, (found at www(dot)nim.nih.gov/pubmed/10341380). [Sorry, but I can’t figure out how to show the linked URL without it automatically reverting to its actual title, so just replace the (dot) with a period (.) to access the NIH published abstract.]The development of circadian rhythms in a human infant.McGraw K, 1, Hoffmann R, Harker C, Herman JH.Author informationAbstractSTUDY OBJECTIVES:This study examines the ontogeny and interaction of circadian rhythms of sleep, wake, temperature, melatonin, and feeding in the human newborn, and the influence of photic and non-photic factors on the initiation of entrainment.DESIGN:An infant's sleep-wake state, temperature, and salivary melatonin were monitored from birth to 6 months. Temperature was obtained every hour, and the infant's sleep/eating onset/termination were observed continuously and recorded until day 182. Salivary melatonin was obtained weekly for a 24-hour period, starting at week 3.SETTING:The infant slept in his parents' bedroom. All household members awakened, retired, and ate meals according to a fixed schedule during the study, while the infant ate, slept, and woke on demand.PARTICIPANTS:A healthy male infant was the subject. Biological parents gathered data continuously for six months.INTERVENTIONS:The infant's schedule was on-demand; the household's was fixed. Illumination was restricted to sunlight.MEASUREMENTS AND RESULTS:The circadian rhythm of temperature appeared first, soon after birth, and became statistically significant within one week. The wake circadian rhythm appeared second, attaining significance at day 45; approximately the same time that increased melatonin concentration began to occur at sunset. The sleep circadian rhythm appeared last, attaining significance after day 56. Ninety to 120 minute zones of sustained wakefulness first appeared in the second month of life subsequent to awakening and prior to sleep onset. The infant's nocturnal sleep-onset was coupled to sunset before day 60 and subsequently to family bedtime, giving evidence of initial photic entrainment followed by social entrainment.CONCLUSIONS:Circadian rhythms appeared much more rapidly in this infant than previously reported; their rapid appearance was probably facilitated by maximal exposure to sunlight, and regular social cues. These lighting conditions replicate universal infant experience prior to the invention of artificial light.(The bolded emphasis in this last paragraph is mine, and it is bolded to reflect that parents who consider this study as significant — which I do! — will birth and raise children in natural light, as much as possible. If I were to advise new parents now, I would suggest having breakfast on the patio, balcony, veranda, or outside every morning upon awakening, and to turn off lights around infants and children at night, so that everyone lives the universal experience prior to the invention of artificial light. One of the most interesting aspects of these studies is their application to those who have dysregulated moods, such as bipolar and depression. I have been reading studies showing that regulating moods via regulating circadian rhythms is proving to be a helpful therapy in controlling mood swings. I don’t doubt that.[2] Circadian regulation of sunflower heliotropism, floral orientation, and pollinator visits, www(dot)sciencemag(dot)org/content/353/6299/587.full.pdf+html.
