PDF Editor FAQ

What are you doing this week?

Get ready for some ultimate nerdiness. . . piano camp. Now before I say anything else, this was my third time going to this camp and everytime it is one of my absolute favorite weeks of the year. I love it to death.Since you probably have no idea what the heck a piano camp is, let me give you a brief rundown. Basically, 13 kids (and a couple counselors) stay in college dorms and:Practice for 2–3 hours a day.Learn music theory.Take lessons from a professor at the college.Participate in daily masterclasses.Prepare a presentation on a composer.Learn or refine a piece for a recital on Saturday.Do fun stuff. It’s that last item that makes the camp amazing. For some reason, all of us campers just connect. It might just be our shared interest in music, or piano specifically, but we always get along well and have a great time.We play games like mafia and sardines, engage in pranks and banter at mealtimes, often sightread popular music to play for fun, etc. It’s a great time, and I already miss the other campers (just got back today). This camp also tends to bring out my “goofball” personality, which I normally only use when helping with kids programs. In fact, I took it to a new level this year. Check out my outfit for the final recital:My trusty pink jacket. Originally I brought just to randomly wear for laughs one day, but people told me I should just go for it and actually wear it during the recital. Truth be told it somewhat restricted my performance but I love it.I also found some very small pink and black glasses to match the outfit. Too small for me but still I couldn’t resist wearing them. This is my friend Kevin (even more of a goofball than me) trying his best to carry all 130 pounds of me.Of course I returned the favor.Last picture I promise, here’s our group picture. In the back you can see my piano teacher (who runs the camp). He’s a little taller than me. . .And that is what I did this week.

How are you as a teenager different from other teenagers?

I don’t swear. I believe it goes against my faith.I enjoy church. I spend anywhere from 6–8 hours a week at church by choice. My time at church tends to be a highlight of the week.I was homeschooled until through 8th grade and now I am dual-enrolled, meaning I take classes at home and at the local public school (and classes online through the college).I am an organist. I learned to play the organ around 8th grade and have played regularly ever since. My favorite week of the year every year is volunteering at a particular Vacation Bible School in the summer. Before VBS, my favorite week of the year was Piano Camp.I did not get a phone until I was 16.I am flat-footed, tongue-tied, and still wear retainers for my teeth to move in properly. Previously, I had braces for 3 years.I live in a house with thousands of books. No hyperbole, no exaggeration, quite literally thousands of books.I cannot remember ever having a TV with cable. For a long time, we only watched DVD’s or VHS’ on the TV and even now we only watch DVD’s and use some streaming services.I don’t have and never have had Instagram. Ditto for Facebook.I know how to diagram a sentence.

Which instrument is better for practicing singing?

to the purity of the question… piano no doubt at all.BUT… that isn’t what I want you to do. Go guitar! Why? It’s portable. I take mine camping, football games, backyard… everywhere. You can’t bring a piano camping. If you are also looking to learn music theory and all that good stuff behind the scenes… again piano is best.
