Shot placement, ammo capacity, and luck are key.Personally, I don't like the idea of entering bear country without a revolver chambered either in .357 Mag or .44 Mag and a rifle chambered in .30–06, .44 Mag, or .45–70 Govt.Here’s a couple of rifles I recommend when entering bear country:Winchester Model 70 (.375 H&H)Remington 700 (.30–06)Marlin Model 1895CB (.45–70 Govt)Marlin Model 1895 (.450 Marlin)You also can't go wrong with a 12 gauge shotgun loaded up with slugs. The Remington 870 is a winner. But please practice a lot with your shotgun before taking it out to bear country.
