Why are many tech people triathletes?

I read a very interesting article on this, which claimed that it's a class issue. Working class people, ordinary people, are into team sports for the social aspect, and also strength training so they can beef up, feel powerful and validated, be strong and manly (or womanly), look good, and basically walk around confidently like they own the room. They are also more sharing and social — even in weight lifting, they talk with each other, and even the most accomplished bodybuilder is happy to help a newby out with the weights.High-achieving tech CEOs, entrepreneurs, etc., are more into self-actualization and improvement. They do solo sports, endurance things, that are all about self-denial and control, going as far as humanly possible, hitting personal bests. They don't want to feel like they can beat up anybody in the room, they want to feel like they can outsmart and outlast everybody through sheer determination and force of will. It's hard to do both well because of the mechanics of the human body, you have to choose between strength or endurance if you want to get good at either.I'm not sure if I buy this theory, but it's very interesting. Personally, I like bicycling and running because this is "me" time where I don't have any other responsibilities and I can sort of meditate or daydream, or watch things — I don't wear headphones. I also obsess over numerical measurements, how many miles or minutes or what speed, what my heart rate was, losing fat and weight, the badges and awards and challenges. Plus it feels good to me (runner's high, yo!) and sometimes I can solve work problems, it's like a super-sized version of pacing around the room.I would totally be a triathlete and I probably will as soon as I learn how to swim properly. I'm not that fast or rugged, so probably the baby-man race first.

Why couldn’t Fitbit dominate wearables technology market as compared to Apple?

Good question. As a fitness tracker FitBit gives the Apple Watch a pretty good run.You can argue about which gets a more accurate heart rate, or distance measurement but by and large even if one is better at this or that they are pretty close.Except price (the FitBit costs about half what Apple’s entry level watch does), and battery life (FitBit has models that go for days/weeks, Apple’s lasts a day, or if you really want to push it Turing the display off and keeping it off gives you a bit over two days). So why isn’t FitBit doing better?Well the entry FitBits don’t look like a watch they look like plastic, but guess what, Apple’s cheapest watch bands look like plastic crap too (sorry elastomer lovers). So I doubt that is it.My guess? The Apple Watch does a ton of “extra stuff”, and being a good fitness tracker plus maybe saving your life (heart monitoring, hard fall detection), being able to make phone calls (solo with a cellular model, or while in range of your phone for other models), maps, message alerts, weather, summoning Uber’s, controlling your eletric car, tracking food delivery, and 85 other “could be useless, could be just what you always wanted” features……my guess is somewhere in that list of “extra stuff” is the compelling feature that makes people reach for the Apple Watch and not a FitBit.

Flying: What are some of the most worrying experiences you have had at the controls of an aircraft?

2nd solo flight (glider) i was playing in a thermal with 4 eagles, as a result my pattern was a tad..low and i made that old rookie mistake of flying a lil slow to stretch it out.I end up over the parking lot not runway! If you ever flew a glider you’d know a few things 1..no second chances on a landing 2 they have very long very thin wings with a rather slow roll speed (especially since as i mentioned i was already slow).I wrestled that beast back over the field ..staring down at the wingtip (60 degree bank very close to the ground) watching it have only a foot or 2 of clearance. (I knew i had it ..i felt confident and in control ..except the heart rate through the roof, but everyone on the ground was sure i’d cartwheel and crash)I pulled it off, a nice perfect landing ..but it was literally 20 seconds from when i realized i was in trouble, and the wheel touched the ground.

Comments from Our Customers

I've only used it a few times, but it's been in constant use at my company. It's great for a global company, especially when you've partners around the world and need to get things solid on e-paper.
