They may wish to destroy some contraband or evidence, such as narcotics. They may try to swallow the drugs to keep the police from recovering them, which not only destroys the evidence, but also creates a medical emergency.If the police allow the arrestee to get or do anything before they leave, it will be only after the police have thoroughly searched any area where the arrestee will have access.
