PDF Editor FAQ

What can I do to make studying psychology easier? I really like the subject but understanding & recalling seem hard for me?

Disclaimer: While I took intro to psychology and educational psychology in college, I was an English major. Having said that, I can tell you where to find some helpful study tools.Do you know what Cornell Notes are and why they are used? If not, Google "Cornell Note taking system," and you will get many hits. It is important that you understand why the system was invented, because that will help you understand how and why it works for any subject and how it makes your note taking, study, and review more organized and productive. Many elementary and junior high schools are incorporating Cornell notes into their core curriculums, because they help students grasp the information more easily, and they are a skill that will always be useful. When I taught sixth grade social studies (Ancient Civilizations and Cultures), I taught my 11 and 12-year-old students to use Cornell notes to outline each chapter. Our teachers also used them in science, history, language arts, even math. I'm pretty sure they still do.Anyway, I suggest you start taking Cornell notes in your psychology class. If you follow the steps on how to use them to review, you should see a big improvement in what you retain.

What's wrong with my understanding/memory?

Frankly, I don't think there is anything wrong with your memory, considering the fact that you now pursuing an IT degree.More than likely, you don't have the right reading/studying strategy.Let me ask you a few preliminary questions:1) Have you done a preview of the new lesson the night before class?2) Have you done what I like to call the 3 R's Strategy upon exit from class before going to the next class?3) Have you instituted a space and distributed revision/rehearsal schedule for the learned stuff in your notes?4) Are you familiar with the seemingly popular SQ5R reading/studying strategy?5) What about Cornell Notes? If you have done (1), then you have what learning psychologists call "schema activation", which allows you to link or connect more quickly new stuff to stuff you already know, thus facilitating your memory acquisition/retention/recall.The tactical initiatives in (2) and (3) help you to circumvent the deadly impact of the Ebbinghaus Effect, or better known as the Forgetting Curve.According to learning experts, a new lesson must be reacpped/reviewed/reinforced ten minutes after class, if not, within 24 hours. Otherwise as much as 80% would be lost. After that, you need to do the spaced and distributed routine as follows: next 30 days/ next 60 days/ next 90 days/ next 180 day till test/exam time.Just remember, Repetition is the Mother of Learning! As for (4) and (5), you may want to explore the use of the strategy tools.A quick intro:1) SQ5R reading/studying strategy; It's a structured system, but it equips you with efficient and effective ways to navigate academic materials, especially the intellectually-intense ones, with ease and expediency.2) Cornell Notes; It's a far more superior system that the conventional outline method, known to most students in schools, college and universities. It's latent power comes from its simple and yet elegant three-column spatial configuration for taking notes and making notes. The "cue" column is the most powerful system I have ever known, as it facilitates - and expedites - your memory retention/recall via self-testing.If you think you have an artistic streak in you, you may even want to explore the multitudinous graphical methods of note-taking and note-making, like idea mapping, cluster diagramming, and other graphic organisers and visual tools. You may want to explore the use of these tools, to help you navigate your academic pursuit more efficiently and effectively, and more specifically, help improve - and enhance - your memory acquisition/retention/recall as a result.Godspeed to you!

What are the most powerful study techniques or workflows out there to use when studying for an intro course's exam? There are so many out there I don't know that I would have the time currently to evaluate and implement all of them.

I like to introduce you to two proven efficient and effective study tools:Go to the net to download information on these study tools:a) SQ5R reading/studying strategy; It's a structured system, but it equips you with efficient and effective ways to navigate academic materials, especially the intellectually-intense ones, with ease and expediency.b) Cornell Notes; It's a far more superior system that the conventional outline method, known to most students in schools, college and universities. It's latent power comes from its simple and yet elegant three-column spatial configuration for taking notes and making notes. The "cue" column is the most powerful system I have ever known, as it facilitates - and expedites - your memory retention/recall via self-testing.To get these two tools in place, you certainly need to think and reflect a lot. I am confident that they will enhance your thinking skills. If you think that you have an artistic streak in you, you may even want to explore the multitudinous graphical methods of note-taking and note-making, like idea mapping, cluster diagramming, and other graphic organisers and visual tools.

** Update: I have been asked to update my review since posting. I will update the review to reflect that it took a negative complaint/review to get someone to contact me to resolve my issues, even though I tried to contact them from their email address supplied on their website. They did resolve my issue of updating from Individual to Team. The fact that it randomly logs itself out was never addressed. It constantly logs itself out. I have tried to contact sales about changing my company from individual to business and no one bothers to return my emails. I will not recommend this product.
