Punjab lost its shine becuase of 3 major Reason.1-) 1984 Riots - Many people will say that it didn't affect much. But Punjab got ruined after 1984. Amritsar was the biggest Commercial and Trade hub of Punjab at the Time. And this massacare happened at Amritsar. So it had a major impact on Amritsar’s economy. Other industrial areas like Ludhiana and Jalandhar also got affected by these riots as they are centrally located in Punjab. After that Punjab has been unable to revive itself.2-) Drug - From last 20 years Drug mafia is expanding in Punjab on major level. Firstly it was a problem of Border districts but now every District is facing this problem. New generation is so addicted to this Chitta that they are destroying their own life. In rural areas condition of youth is even worse. That is why Punjab is lagging behind other states in Startups because youth is busy in Drugs.3-) Industry - This is a major part of any state’s economy. And industry is fleeing Punjab because of nearby hill states like J&K, Himachal and Uttrakhand are giving free tax policy to industries. That is why industries in Punjab are facing a tough time. In cities like Ludhiana, Amritsar and Jalandhar industries are facing an alarming slump.But it doesn't mean Punjab can’t revive. If government wants to do so, then it can do anything. From my point of view if essential steps are taken by the Punjab government then State can revive itself.1-) Govt should make a new policy for Industrial Sector. And should create an atmostphere where businessmen can invest with free mind. There should be less pressure on businessmen as they will withdraw if they get irritated by government interference.2-) There should be free Education for poor students as eduacted people will always contribute to state and will never damage its wealth.3-) There should be strict policy regarding Drug abuse so that drug peddelers can’t expand their business. This will save youth from disaster.4-) More job opportunities should be created to reduce migration. As this will attract more investors in market. People will invest more for their child’s future.5-) Every city and Village should have better transport facilities so people can move here to there with no problem. Metropolitan cities like Ludhiana and Amritsar should have much better transport facilities.6-) More trees should be planted in city areas as this will reduce pollution and provide fresh air to people for their good health.7-) Ludhiana and Amritsar should be developed as metro cities. Metro project should be started to manage traffic issues.8-) There should be ban of Plastic in state.This is the reason behind ban of Plastic. Punjab will face water shortage issue in coming years.9-) If a city is doing good in tourism sector it doesn't mean the government should let its industry die and only focus on Tourists. As they are doing with Amritsar. Local indistry should also be treated equally.10-) Punjab should focus on Trade with Pakistan and Afghanistan. As this is the only route which has to be followed( Amritsar-Lahore).11-) Punjab should also focus on IT sector. As this sector is in its boom period in all over India. So why Punjab is behind? Recruitment as Soldiers in the Indian Army is based on Recruitable Male Population (RMP). Higher the population of a state, greater will be the RMP and more vacancies will be allotted to that State. Punjab's population, as per the 2011 Census, is 2.77 crore, with 1.46 crore being male. The relatively small size of the population notwithstanding, sources in the armed forces estimate personnel from Punjab constitute over 23 per cent of the services, even though the figure is on the decline. In 2011, when recruitment from Punjab was the highest in the past three years (see box), the Army had projected 70,457 vacancies, out of which 61,269 were filled. Punjab's contribution was 3,449 troops, making for 5.6 per cent of the enrolment. Army recently refuted any drop in RMP for Punjab and asserted that the State contributes more than its share of RMP. "It is not that youngsters are not coming forward, but their standard of education is so low that they are unable to qualify in the written tests," Brig IS Gakhal, former Director Sainik Welfare, Punjab, says. The state of educational infrastructure in Punjab, especially in rural and border areas, is deplorable. Thousands of posts of teacher are vacant. The dismal teacher-student ratio, apathetic faculty and virtually non-existent teaching aids are among the reasons reiterated in the administrative, social and academic circles.Also unlike in the past, strenuous physical activities, be in agriculture or sports, is no longer the order of the day. Lack of physical activity due to reasons like availability of other sources of entertainment, lack of playing grounds and employment of migrant labour for agriculture, has led to a decrease in stamina and the ability to withstand tough conditions - vital attributes for a soldier. Recalling his tenure as Commandant of the Sikh Regimental Centre, a brigadier says out of about 500 persons who turned up for recruitment under the unit headquarters category, only a handful cleared the physical tests. "There have been instances where candidates have been caught using performance enhancing drugs," says Brig KS Kahlon, former Director Sainik Welfare.Punjab faces a challenge from the rampant abuse of alcohol and narcotics. Recent media reports have pointed out that about 70 per cent of the youth in Punjab is engaged in substance abuse. The State Disaster Management Plan states 73.5 per cent of the youth between 16 and 35 years is affected by drugs. This has resulted in adverse physical and psychological affects, limiting physical and mental performance.The Infantry, the largest component of the Army, has three regiments that drawtheir stock exclusively from Punjab. The Punjab Regiment has 19 battalions and the Sikh Regiment and Sikh Light Infantry 18 each. Troops from Punjab also form a component of the President's Bodyguard, Brigade of The Guards and Mechanised Infantry, which are mixed class outfits, as well as the Rashtriya Rifles (two battalions). The Armoured and Artillery regiments also have a large number of squadrons and batteries comprising troops from Punjab.The Tribune, Chandigarh, IndiaGeneral Nair said that according to the 2011 Census, the Recruitable Male Population (RMP) of Punjab is around 2.34 per cent which is the highest in the country. The state has the highest quota of 1,400 seats out of the total 60,000 vacancies for JCOs and other ranks in the country. “Punjab was subscribing to up to 3,000 vacancies until three years ago. The number has almost doubled to around 5,000 recruitments in 2014-15, one of the highest in the country,” said General Nair. State remains major contributor to armed forces: Lt Gen NairSo the Indian Army specifically looks at Punjab and not just as Sikhs to recruit. Yet it has 37 Battalions of Sikhs as the predominant class composition. If you see the Population matrix, as per census 2011, Sikh are majority in Punjab state. Sikhs constitutes 57.69% of Punjab population. Punjab Religion Data - Census 2011So with an RMP of 2.34 and Majority of 57.6% Sikhs stand better chance of being recruited.
