Who is Pate from A Feast for Crows?

Spoilers for those who haven't read A Feast for Crows. There are four different people named Pate mentioned in A Feast For Crows - it's a common name, from the story of Spotted Pate, the pig boy. In this book, the four Pates were Ser Pate of the Blue Fork (Gatehouse Ami's husband slain by Gregor Clegane), Pate at the Crossroads Inn, Pate at King's Landing (Tommen's whipping boy) and Pate at Oldtown. I will assume you meant the last one.Pate was born in the Westerlands with no big family background. He came to the Citadel when he was 13 years old, and he has remained a Novice for 5 years without earning a single Maester's link. He tried twice, but was never able to pass the test. He assisted old Archmaester Walgrave with maintaining ravens, especially the large white ravens of the Citadel, but eventually became his personal steward in all but name. He dreams of running away with Rosey, and for that he needs a gold dragon.Rosey introduces him to an alchemist who promises him a gold dragon if he retrieves Walgraves black iron key, which is similar to a master key for the Citadel. Though he refuses at the start, he does steal the key and exchanges it for a gold dragon. However, as he walks away, he suddenly feels sick, falls to the ground and apparently dies.Later on in the book, during the last (Samwell) chapter, a young novice introduces himself to Sam as Pate, like the pig boy.The alchemist's physical appearance was described like this:He was just a man, and his face was just a face. A young man's face, ordinary, with full cheeks and the shadow of a beard. A scar showed faintly on his right cheek. He had a hooked nose, and a mat of dense black hair that curled tightly around his ears.Earlier, in A Clash of Kings we saw this happen:Jaqen passed a hand down his face from forehead to chin, and where it went he changed. His cheeks grew fuller, his eyes closer; his nose hooked, a scar appeared on his right cheek where no scar had been before. And when he shook his head, his long straight hair, half red and half white, dissolved away to reveal a cap of tight black curls. It is safe to conclude that the alchemist was the Faceless Man that we once knew as Jaqen H'ghar, and now he has assumed the place of Pate, a novice of the Citadel, and he also has a master key to the Citadel.Curiously, he (most likely) killed Pate with a poisoned gold dragon, the same way Arya completed her first assignment.

What the heck did Qyburn do to Gregor Clegane? Does he have any mystic powers or is it super science?

It is hinted in the books that Qyburn renanimated the Mountain using bloodmagic. The fact that he is able to reanimate the Mountain is a continous theme within the books. It is reanimating the dead. The Wights, Catelyn, Beric, it is all resurrecting the dead. The same goes for Qyburn reanimating the Mountain. I highly doubt Qyburn is using normal medicinal and maesteral skills. He claims he was kicked out of the Citadel for experimenting on the living, I presume he has learned magic. Real magic unlike the maesters.I propose he resurrects the Mountain using bloodmagic. He claims to know of bloodmagic already.[Qyburn] "Bloodmagic is the darkest kind of sorcery. Some say it is the most powerful as well." Cersei VIII, AFFCThat is what Qyburn tells Cersei. He probably knows bloodmagic and he has used all the victims Cersei has provided him (Falyse, Senelle, Blue Bard) as bloodsacrifice to have the Mountain living again.Only death pays for life! The Mountain is a parallel to a reanimated Wight. He is the reanimated dead. He has no consciousness. He is a thrall and follows the orders of his masters (Qyburn and Cersei). There are many different forms of magic that reanimate the dead. Yet, all of them yield the same results. The reanimated dead are thralls with no independent thought, but the ability to follow orders to kill and destroy. There are no forms of medicine and science used to reanimate them. Pure dark magic. Most likely, blood sacrifice. The Mountain does not have the brain power or consciousness to form words and convey language. In the books, the Mountain loses his head. He is the walking headless. Qyburn removes his head (probably boils the flesh away, cleans it) and sends it to Dorne. It is a sign of co-operation and giving Doran vengeance as the Mountain confessed to the rape and murder of Elia before the completion of ‘trial by combat’. The Mountain can not talk because he has no head. Once again, he is a parallel to a reanimated Wight. This is achieved by numerous blood sacrifices Qyburn performs. He prefers women sacrifices. Some suggest his head is replaced by another. Falyse Stokeworth is the leading candidate.

Who is the most disturbing character in Game of Thrones?

I would have to say the former maester turned master of whispers: Qyburn. We do not learn much about him over the course over the books, but everything we do learn is twisted and disturbing. In the tv show, unfortunately, a lot of his actions are left out.He began as a maester, but was kicked out of their order for experimenting on living human beings. At the Citadel they cut open the dead to learn about life. Qyburn wanted to learn about death so he cut open the living. He then joins Vargo Hoat’s group of sellswords, where he check the women Hoat intends to rape for STD’s before handing them over to his boss. During his time at Harrenhal he examines both Jaime’s and Brienne’s wound after they are brought there. He later remarks to Jaime that he found Brienne’s maidenhead to be intact while treating her wounds. I’m not a doctor, but I don’t believe treating wounds usually involves a gynecological exam. After treating Jaime for his lost hand, he makes it to King’s Landing and manages to gain employment with Cersei. She gives him a laboratory to continue his work and lets him chose whichever prisoners from the dungeons he likes as his test subjects. As well as serving as master of whispers, Cersei very much uses him as a sort of “monster in her basement” and throws people who displease her down to him. It is noted that he prefers women for his experiments. Among his victims are one of Cersei’s former handmaidens, a group of female puppeteers and Lady Falyse Stokeworth. Later, when Cersei considers sending Falyse to reclaim the castle Stokeworth (which is being held by Bronn), Qyburn informs her that: “Lady Falyse is no longer able to feed herself, much less rule.” It is noted that she dies screaming in the black cells. He manages to torture the Blue Bard into giving false testimony against Margaery Tyrell to such an extent, that even when the Faith tortures the bard to test the truth of his testimony, he sticks to the story Qyburn told him to tell. And, lest we forget, he used his knowledge of science and magic to turn Ser Gregor Clegane into a Frankenstein-like monster.Qyburn is a horrifying, pervy serial killer and necromancer with a knack for cozying up to powerful people. This makes him, to my mind, the most disturbing character in “A Song of Ice and Fire”.
