TROLLEY TRANSPORTATION contracts so that trolley of coaches be changed during scheduled maintenance.Implementation of Mechanized coach Cleaning contracts which are to be managed at this level .Bio toilet fitment and its annual maintenance contracts . Pest and rodents contracts are also to be managed to ensure hygienic conditions in coaches .Laundry management : annual contracts for linen washing and distribution is also managed.Watering : responsibility of watering in coaches and in route watering of coaches through outsourced staff is also managed .OBHS on board housekeeping staff contract management ensuring proper cleanliness of coaches during journey .Diesel sheds : maintenance of diesel locomotives , periodic and trip schedule maintenance of diesel locomotives .however with change is policies it production and usage will be minimised in future .Accident management : accident releif train , accident relief medical van , 140 tonne crane and its maintance , hydraulic retailing equipment and its maintance to uplift derailed wagons /coaches , cutting machines and there drills are under there supervision .Station cleaning contracts management has been recently incorporated into this stream .RDSO and CAMTECH where research related decisions and veracity of various designs of coaches are checked and technocommercial decisions are made .Supervision and implementation of all such works is with IRSME .

Newly rolled out World’s most power rail engine by RDSO.RDSO is the INDIAN RAILWAYS i.e. national transporter’s research and development organisation. In 1957, the Central Standards Office (CSO) and the Railway Testing and Research Centre (RTRC) were integrated into a single unit named Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) under the Ministry of Railways with its headquarters at Manak Nagar, Lucknow for testing and conducting appliedresearch for development of railway rolling stock, permanent way etc.ORGANISATIONRDSO is headed by a Director General, assisted by Additional Director General, Sr. Executive Directors and Executive Directors, heading different directorates. RDSO has 30 Directorates for smooth functioning.All the Directorates of RDSO except Defence Research are located at Lucknow. Cells for Railway Production Units and industries, which look after liaison, inspection and development work, are located at Bangalore, Bharatpur, Bhopal, Mumbai, Burnpur, Kolkata, Chittaranjan, Kapurthala, Jhansi, Chennai, Sahibabad, Bhilai and New Delhi.At present PMU-SRESTHA is also linked to RDSO for administrative purposes.CAMTECH, Gwalior is subsidiary organisation under the adminstrative control of RDSONow coming to what will be the future of RDSO amid current service/ cadre mergers and privatization of Train Operations/ Station Developments in Indian Railways.Currently in Indian Railways, management and administration is done by officers from three of the existing railway services i.e. IRTS, IRAS, IRPS who are recruited through the civil service exam while the rest five are technical services i.e. IRSE, IRSSE, IRSME, IRSEE & IRSS who are recruited through the Engineering Services Exam. Now the government has decided to merge these eight cadres of railway officers into one newly created cadre called Indian Railway Management Service.All the posts of merged cadre will be open for all members of IRMS. Fresh recruitment to IRMS will be done from the UPSC Civil service exam. Posts requiring technical expertise like those in RDSO will be filled up by different process like the way it is done in ISRO/DRDO. Technical specialists will be recruited through RDSO (The Research Designs & Standards Organisation (RDSO).The role of RDSO will become more professional and crucial for Indian Railways in coming future and it will now act as technical expert wing of Indian Railways.
