PDF Editor FAQ

Where can I buy cheap university textbooks in Melbourne?

A2AOk - let’s break this down.Assuming that the retail price of the textbook, brand new, is $180. By “cheap” you probably mean spending something in the range of $100 or less?BUYING NEWIn the interest of full disclosure, I work for Wiley, which is one of the biggest academic publishers of textbooks for universities in Australia. If the textbook you’re looking for is published by Wiley - go to Wiley Direct - that’s our direct channel to students. 20% off all textbooks, and free shipping. So you’ll save right off the bat, and then if you choose to resell when the semester ends you’ll recoup another 50–60% of what you’ve paid originally. Better than buying new from the bookstores. Or you can choose to buy the interactive online textbook which is only $55 & you can keep it for life. Pretty sweet.Spend = amount paid - resell value = (20% x $180) /2 = $72 for a brand new print textOR $55 for a digital, interactive textIf your textbook is published by another company e.g. Pearson, Cengage, McGraw-Hill etc. I suspect that they may be able to offer students something similar to save money - so do check out the publisher’s website first to see what’s available.Panda reading up on business law..2. BUYING USEDStudentVIP is the biggest marketplace for buying / selling used textbooks. There will be a range that you can choose from, different prices, different editions etc (the cheaper it is, the more likely that it’s in worse conditions). You can also check out Gumtree, eBay, the Facebook page of your uni / course, or look at the posters on campus - every university has some sort of place where its students often go to post stuff, this is where they resell their books, notes, and other uni-related items. It’s likely that the used books available for purchase will be the older editions of what your lecturer is using. Depends on which book it is, that can make a big or small difference. Check out the editions (your uni library probably has all editions) if you’re unsure how much they differ from one another. If you’re buying used, I’d advise finding a seller who can meet you on campus or a public space nearby. It’s just more hassles to send money online to someone who you haven’t met and wait for the book to be shipped to you - if it ever arrives. You probably will spend $80 - $100 here not including shipping, maybe less if you can find a cheaper one. You can resell the book after the semester ends, however by then it will be even older so you’ll get less comparing to reselling a brand new text.3. RENTINGMore and more campus bookstores are offering the option to “rent” used textbooks for a semester. Usually it costs about $100 - $120 or so per semester, I think, if we’re looking for a $180 textbook. There are other online sites that offer the rental choice e.g. Zookal.com. For this same $180 book it probably costs $110 to rent.Hope this helps.

Is life in the United Kingdom easy?

Ok For me at the moment it’s ridiculously easy. I earn much more than I spend. I work from home a lot of the time. I have a nice family, great pets, I spend a lot of time doing martial arts that I really enjoy and I holiday quite frequently and go away most weekends on short trips.Last week I went snowboarding and wake boarding and the week after next we are going on a touring trip in France.Life is good.Other’s experience will vary.—My own background is “working class boy done good” I’m from a hard working, working class family and my childhood home was a house purchased from the local council (ie it was ex social housing stock on an estate), my parents worked extra hours and helped me financially through uni and I got a good job.I now live in a large bungalow I bought with my parents and then divided in two, giving a manageable sized property for them and then I extended my end into a much larger property. We have shared gardens of about half an acre and a lot of parking (I’m into cars and camper vans as a hobby) and a few garages. We have no mortgages for that property although I do have against rental property. But the rent exceeds the borrowing overall so it’s another win not a liability.-I do know people who struggle a bit financially but at least they know their kids can get a decent education and good healthcare so the important basics are taken care of at least.

Is 4000 AUD sufficient to live in Sydney with a family of 2 adults and 2 kids?

May be you can find a 2 bedroom apartment that is 1 hr or more of a train journey away from Sydney, for $350 a week. Suburbs like Blacktown Penrith Windsor Richmond etc.Canberra; Moving to Canberra, not a good solution for migrants as most of the federal government jobs requires Security clearance. To be eligible for applying one, you need to be in Australia at least 5–7 years after becoming citizen. Fresh migrants with a temporary work permit or with a PR visa, it is not a place those who look for jobs, of course there are private companies there but their customers are the government departments only. So, they would also ask for clearance to work with their clients.Melbourne; Best decision would be moving to Melbourne where the rent and the homes are still around $300 weekly rental or $450K homes for a outright purchase (bank loans are available if you have that initial deposit 10% or 20% and a job for income), they are 25 minutes train to city. I’m talking about suburbs in and around Werribee in Melbourne. Don’t waste time accumulating that initial deposit 10% or 20%, by the time you earned/saved that sort of money house prices in Australia would have further gone up by another 200K. So, jump in as early as you can. Currently, (April 2018) there is a downtrend in the housing market expected to be sustaining like this for until end of 2019. RBA already warned of increasing the interest rate soon, which is a good news for the first home buyers as the house prices trend will either see a down hill or in a worst case situation it will not be accelerating at the rate we see today. So, to summarise 4K is pretty much okay, if you are in Melbourne. Further, to make life easier, and to be a peacefully settling migrant here in Australia these days, you need to be a dual income family which would also help paying off your mortgage at faster rate, before the kids go to the Uni.Thanks
