I was assured by bank manager that we will process the loan and inform you, and said you can proceed with booking the vehicle.I have booked my vehicle, and when it was a couple of days for delivery, I wanted to check on with the bank on “Readiness” of the loan sanction documents.To my surprise, The bank manager said he cannot process the loan unless I offer the FD as collateral.This was very disgusting behavior I ever expected as a person when the loan is denied/additional documentation is requested when we do a followup and that too out of normal protocol. no one asks for a colleteral in case of an auto loan.I said I will get back to you in an hour, went straight to SBI RACPAC division at secunderabad, finished documentation with in an hour, and they have arranged my car to be delivered at my door step from the same dealer.I realized I am banking with a substandard bank, and cancelled FD’s.Just with a feeling of helping SBI which was very helpful during the need, I purchased SBI share at 950 (before the split) with the Same money I kept at union bank.So by end 2014, for a 3.79 lakh loan , I paid 1.58 Lakh interest, while the 3.5 lakh worth of shares in SBI returned a sum of 7.5 lakh rupees (2220 Rupees per share).The manager of my earlier bank taught me two things by asking for collateral.Customer loyalty is a myth. more loyal you are to a brand/provider, they will exploit youInvest in companies that delight you with service. enabled me to identify-> Indigo, Avenue super marts , TVS , jubilant food works, and most important Persistent for investment etc..,Today, I think of thanking him instead of feeling bitter.

I'll share my latest experience with both the ecommerce sites and will leave upon the readers to decide which one is better.So from 9-12 Aug 2017 independence day sale was going on, on both the ecommerce platform Amazon and Flipkart. I have ordered one smartphone each from both the websites on 9th Aug under different offers for my relatives. As the luck would have it, both the smartphones delivered were faulty. The one brought from Amazon was dead on arrival and the one brought from Flipkart was freezing every now and then. With utter disappointment I went ahead and placed a request for replacement.Case 1 Amazon Customer Service: The customer support executive told me that replacement was not possible and I should go ahead and place the request for refund and place a new order. I proceeded as guided. The pickup for my dead phone was scheduled on 11th. However, due to some technical issues the pickup got cancelled twice. I got in touch with the customer support team and they apologised for the inconvenience and explained the reason for the delay. The pickup was finally done on 17th noon and the refund was processed same day. As a form of gesture, the Amazon also gave me gift credits worth 15% value of the phone as it was eligible for 15% cashback under the offer. That definitely made me happy.Case 2 Flipkart Customer Service: I put the request for replacement through Flipkart mobile app on 11th. The app showed that an engineer will visit my place and diagnose the device first. I thought fair enough. Then I waited for 4 days and nothing happened till 16th. Then I dropped them a mail reminding about my issue. No reply came. Then after sometime they rejected my request saying proper support was given over phone whereas they didn't even call me. Then I again placed the request for replacement which also got no attention from Flipkart. Then I decided to post it on twitter on 17th. On my first post they didn't reply for hours so I went ahead and tagged their ceo Sachin Bansal. After that they replied saying we will get in touch with you shortly. I received no call for entire 24 hours so I again tweeted to them and this time they replied saying they are in touch with their support team and asked me to wait. As I am typing this answer, I still await any response from Flipkart. Yes and no.Way back when, some retail stores came up with the idea that it would be a good idea to write a store policy regarding the custom of, accepting checks from customers. The policy was, that if a customer presented a check to the cashier, the cashier was required to request to see 2 credit cards. If you didn’t have 2 credit cards in your possession, you couldn’t write a check for the amount of your purchase.I had gone shopping with my 12 yr old daughter. She needed a new coat. We found a coat, went to the check out counter. I presented a check for the amount of purchase, as I had done many times in the past. The sales clerk asked to see 2 credit cards. I did not have any credit cards. I never used credit cards.It just so happened the day before, I had had a conversation with the local police chief, regarding a customer writing an “Out-of-town” check for the purchase of gas at a service station where I worked part-time. In that case the owners had their own store policy, to never accept “Out-of-Town” checks. The police chief chuckled .”They can write any policy they want but that doesn’t make it legal. A bank check written for the amount of purchase is considered to be another form of “legal tender”. The business must accept a bank check for a purchase.”Now back to my story of the coat for my daughter. I smiled, laid my check on the counter, told the sales clerk the store policy wouldn’t hold up in court, showed her my driver’s license, the store manager arrived, she was told, I didn’t have 2 credit cards, I told her my check covered my purchase. She confirmed, and I left the store with my daughter………….AND her new coat.About a year later it was determined that retail, stores could NOT require a customer to show a credit card for a purchase………….. paid for with a personal bank check.
