Why is McCabe blaming Trump for his firing?

If you can remember back to Trump-world, March 2018 - I know it is hard to do, all Trump-days just seem to blur into one long mashup of insult and crime - …if you can remember that far back, it is hard to credit now but Jeff Sessions (who he?!) was still AG.You may recall that Trump hated Jeff S because he had recused himself from the Russia investigation…(goodness that seems a long time ago! An AG trying to do the right thing maybe, and we thought he was bad enough - now I think we can say he was the most professional AG since 2016!)…and Sessions was under tremendous pressure from Trump on all fronts. The press was alive with reports about Sessions being bullied by Trump to make the AG’s office Trump’s personal law office.Remember, that McCabe had replaced Comey in May 2017 and then opened two investigations into the president - If that is not asking for trouble (as we now know), I don’t know what is!One of the inquiries was into whether Trump obstructed justice by firing Comey. The other was a counterintelligence probe to determine whether the president was acting on behalf of the Russian government.(it’s amazing remembering that far back - those days seem so innocent now!)At the time Sessions said the firing was triggered by internal reviews that concluded McCabe violated Justice Department policies and was not forthcoming with investigators probing FBI actions before the 2016 presidential election. Justice Department officials determined that “McCabe had made an unauthorized disclosure to the news media and lacked candor — including under oath — on multiple occasions… The FBI expects every employee to adhere to the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and accountability,”(note that there were no allegations of criminality in this statement - the highest they put their case was ‘lack of candour under oath’; i.e. he didn’t lie but perhaps they asked the wrong question)The internal reviews were offshoots of the Horowitz report, which at the time recommended some disciplinary action against McCabe not his firing. But the pressure was on Sessions to keep his job. I seem to recall that Sessions was trying to let it be known that he was a bastion of defence against Trump - we should have paid more attention to his cries for help!So Sessions fired McCabe on Friday 16th March. If McCabe been able to turn up to work on Monday he would have collected his full pension.Trump was well aware of McCabe’s pension date. Can you imagine the pressure he was putting Sessions under?!If you were in any doubt then that Trump would be focused on causing McCabe as much pain as possible, now nearly 2-years later you can be in no doubt. Trump is a petty, vindictive individual.Shortly after McCabe’s firing, Trump could not help crowing:McCabe rightly blames Trump. Sessions was not strong enough to resist Trump’s corrupting influence.Ironic really. It was only a couple of months (June 2018) after that that Barr wrote his notorious “unitary executive” letter that got Sessions fired and Barr hired as his replacement.A First Take on Bill Barr's Memo on Presidential Authority and the Mueller Investigation - Just SecuritySo perhaps the McCabe firing was the red-flag day on which Trump’s true nihilistic intentions towards the Constitution became public.
