PDF Editor FAQ

I am starting my BS in Data Science at Clarkson University this Fall. Will it be worth it? How renowned is their program? How will my career scope be like after that?

I note that you are from Kathmandu, Nepal. What happened to your other universities? Is this only one you have now?Did you know that you made lot of mistakes like English language waiver etc. Which university which requires English language requirement will consider you?You have no option but to settle for such universities where anybody applies will get an admit.I will not say anything more than that.

Does where you go to high school have any influence on college admissions (ie. big vs. small or private vs. public)?

Your HS has a “reputation” among colleges. It is based upon the courses offered, scores on standardized tests and how successful graduates of that HS have been at the particular college. How much weight is given to this data is different at all schools. As an example, the schools near where I live have a 30 district combined program for the best students who want to study engineering. It is called New Visions and the kids are very well prepared for college and starting their engineering coursework after participating. I have not heard of any students who have applied to Clarkson University (on of the best engineering schools in the country) with a New Visions background being rejected. Now granted, these are sharp kids to begin with, but when you say “New Visions” to an admissions counselor, their eyes light up and they smile.Schools themselves also have these kinds of reputations.

Can I get into Cornell with an SAT score of 1410/1600 and an SAT subjective score of 2390/2400?

This question is like Can I get 98% marks in Board exams, when we don't know your academic records”.Dear admission depends on many things:A SAT score is requirement and not the passport for admission like in India you scored rank in any competition and can take any college of your choice. May it would be by hook!. Your SAT score is just 20% of your profile and other than this their are many parameters which would be counted in admission offer. Also if you are a sports person and a national player of any individual game, then your profile will be treated as Sports - person profile and will get waiver in SAT and other scores. Also do you have any extracurricular activities under your name? One important thing is your Essay and SOP with positive and awesome LOR from your teachers. This makes 60% of the acceptance of admission offer from admission team. How you present yourself is very important. I would like to give you an example, last year I have two students who have SAT score of 1550 and 1510 respectively and are both US citizens. I prepared them for SAT , SAT subject test and APs. They have 2400 in SAT Subject and maximum 5 or 4 in all APs. Great academics with 10 CGPA in 10th and 95% in class 12. All well for them. But they were not able to get offers from UCLA, UIUC and were in waited list. You know why? Because they did their application on their own without guidance of any professional. Wrote their SOP and Essay which went wrong for them. Now they are in India in IIIT and BITS respectively. And other student with only 1180 as SAT score and three papers passed in class XI, in IGCSE board get offers from maximum university and from Clarkson University with 80% scholarship because we did his Essay and SOP.Also, that depends on the major you are applying in that university. Different majors have different 75 and 25 percentile score of SAT in the same University. If your score is falling in 75 percentile range your chances are high and if in 25 percentile range then your chances are low but other factors can make a delta change in acceptance chances. So, dear don't worry for your score and just apply under the guidance of any professional. SAT score matters but not to that extend that with low score you will not be able to get the admission offer.
