I’m 73, going on 74. I did secretarial work for 12 years. I was a foreign service wife, homemaker, and I am a mother of one daughter. At 51, I started doing volunteer work for the benefit of children after a visit to an orphanage. I have volunteered at two orphanages, a street school, a children’s hospital, a preschool, and an elementary school.I was widowed at 62. My daughter lives out of state. I started volunteering at a preschool within weeks of my husband’s death. When I was 70, the preschool relocated and downsized, and I was out of work. In 2018 I started volunteering at an elementary school as a tutor. For eleven years I worked on charitable projects with seniors.In March 2020, due to the pandemic, both volunteer programs were discontinued. I am currently a Quora addict, and my daughter and I set records for continuous telephone conversations. On Thanksgiving we talked for 7 l/2 hours on the phone and on Zoom.Once I started volunteering, I felt that I would probably be volunteering after my husband retired, and that I would spend my time doing volunteer work and exercise, and with my husband.I didn’t count on widowhood, but my life has been full. The pandemic has kept me at home. I keep busy with exercise and Quora. Also, I wrote stories about the many children I have cared for through my volunteer work. I will seriously consider returning to volunteer work once the pandemic is over.

In a pandemic a government uses what resources it has available.Do you think that the U.K. government should not have availed itself of a vaccine it had preordered to save lives, or do you believe people should be allowed to contract the infection and die while waiting for the ‘right’ vaccine.The virus does not respect labels on vials.The achievement is due to the efforts of many thousands of people both full time and volunteers working to provide protection for the nation so we can collectively get out of this which vaccine is not important the collective effort is the amazing feat.
