PDF Editor FAQ

Could you briefly discuss the acadmics in 1st year IIEST Shibpur? I mean everything from course load to labs and the level of vivas and assignments and checking of answer scripts and the grading system.

Thanks for A2AThe course structure at IIEST Shibpur is spread across 2 semesters (same for every engineering college). The students of 1st year are divided into two groups i.e., Electrical group (CST,ECE,EE,and IT) and non-Electrical group (ME,AE,CE,MET and MIN) .Hope you get those short forms. In 1st year, there total 10 subjects (5 in each semester), 5 labs, 5 Workshops (combined together and completed in 1 semester) and Engineering Drawing Practice. In 1st semester, for Electrical group, they have to learn Physics, Basic Electrical Engineering, Mechanics and English with Mathematics I being the same subject for both the groups in 1st semester, and the labs they've to perform are Physics and Basic Electrical Engineering along with Workshops (Carpentry, Fitting, Forging, Machine and Electrical). The Electrical lab and Electrical workshop are totally different. 5 Workshops, each wil be taking 3 weeks for completing. The non-Electrical group have in 1st semester Chemistry, Basic Electronics, Ecology and Environmental Studies, Computer Science. The labs are Chemistry, Basic Electronics and Computer Practice along with Engineering Drawing. In 2nd semester, all the subjects and labs of 1st semester of the two groups get exchanged with Mathematics I replaced by Mathematics II and is taught in both the groups.Every subject (except Mathematics, Environmental Studies and English) has 8 modules which will be taught in class. Mathematics I and II has lower number of modules but each module is covered in great details so it increases the load. For Environment Studies and Ecology, you'll be taught with the help of slides/ presentation and later those slides will be sent to group mails by the professor and be assured that questions will be set from those slides with few numericals which will be done in class. For English, you'll be taught to write formal letters, CVs, Memos, Précis and draft reports. There'll also be classes on vocabulary and some classes will be assigned for speaking on topics given by the professor. For labs, you'll have to be present every single day as these are sessional classes so irregular attendance may cost you a year. New experiments will be performed in every week and the next week you'll have to submit the last week's experiment data along with other necessary report like graphs, tables, charts (if any), objective of the experiment, conclusion and precautions. In some labs, when you'll submit the report you'll have to face questions based on what you've written. So don't write anything on which you're not sure and don't copy beacuse one's the teacher catches you and your friends from whom you have copied, both of you will be marked and can cost you grades in total. For writing reports, you can consult books, internet and the report of last year's batch. For Workshops, only Electrical Workshop will take a viva and grade you on basis of that and the rest you've to perform work in groups or alone which will be assigned to you. The saddest part of this workshops are you'll have to complete writing reports of nearly 40–50 pages with drawings of all the things you get acquainted with in the workshops and submit it within 2 weeks if you want to avoid losing marks. Though you'll get the copy of what you've to write but it's very much painstaking. And for Engineering Drawing, you'll have to buy drawing board, drafter, a drawing kit, etc. for your drawing classes. It's the toughest part in 1st year (according to my views) and Homework will be given every week based on that week's class and a classwork which you'll have to complete that day on a chart paper, and that too you've to buy.Vivas will be based on what you've performed all round the semester in labs and some basic questions from class 12 level (sometimes JEE level) but if you're well prepared for your viva then it'll be cakewalk for you. And regarding checking of marksheets professors are very lenient while giving you marks, except English and Physics. You can go for checking your answer scripts but for that you need to stay back in hostel for some days.Grading System is same that every other INI college follows. Every subject has its own credit points and it's same across all departments. Multiplication of credit points of individual subject with the grades you received in that subject followed by the sum of all the subjects in that semester divided by the total credit points in that semester gives you SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average). And for CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average), such add the SGPAs of all semesters and divide by the number of semesters. For Marks to GPA conversion, follow this chart:Tips: Always maintain a healthy relationship with your professor to a get good grades because based on your CGPA after 2 semesters you'll be allowed to apply for a change in department only if you're in the top 20% of your department of which only 10% are allowed to change from a given department. So if you want to change your department be sure in which department you want to go and the CGPA required for that branch which you couldn't get because of your JEE rank. So work hard and nothing will be impossible as here the course curriculum and the syllabus is easy compared to JEE.Hope it helps! All the best!Edit: IIEST Shibpur follows absolute grading system unlike many IITs which follow a relative grading system.

What are some tips for Practical Aural grade 3 Piano?

First of all, Sophia, please don't stress too much about grade 3 aural. In the earlier grades (up to grade 3) the aural tests generally seem fairly common-sense based—for many, they come along quite naturally. The students I've taught—well, really get the impression they do virtuallly no work at home for the aural testing at or around grade 3—-despite relevant assignments I give them. Most do quite well just with the work we’ve done together at lessons—and we never devote all that much time to it in lessons at or around grade-3 level. That said, I really admire your determination and desire to do your very best! Good on you!So, I think a great way for to feel confident about the aural test is to get your hands on Aural Training in Practice, with the accompanying CD offered. (Oh! CDs?! Does anyone even have a CD player these days? Okay—maybe check to see if there’s an MP3 offering now, in lieu of the CD if you’re like me and have to fumble around in some closet or who-knows-where to find that old CD player. I do have a great turntable! But it works be v somewhat hilarious if they offered vinyl “Accompanying listening content for Aural Training in Practice.)Anyway, Vol. 1 covers material through grade 3. (There are two other volumes that, together, cover through Grade 8.)And, you know, even if you get this and think, “Oh—this IS easy! A waste of money!” Well, not so fast! Go through the exercises—a least some of them—because this will serve you well, perhaps, in the later grades by giving up you a solid foundation from which to work—because, later, you have to do some rather difficult things like identifying keys that are being modulated to and from, etc.I have to say I haven't had a need to go through Vol, 1 with anyone in years, but not long ago, a student had to do grade 8 and couldn't say enough awesome stuff about how vol. 3 was “very, very helpful.”A good music shop will likely have it—or they'll likely be happy to order it for up you.Or, here you go—straight from the ABRSM shop: Aural Training in Practice, ABRSM Grades 1-3, with 2 CDshttp://shop.abrsm.org/shop/prod/Holmes-John-Scaife-Nigel-Aural-Training-in-Practice-ABRSM-Grades-1-3-with-2-CDs/2059398I have this intuition you (or yours) will do very well! —Poppy AnthopolosP.S. You likely already know this, but did grade 3, you're expected :[The following, which I'm quoting verbatim, is ABRSM copyrighted content, which can be found at https://us.abrsm.org/en/our-exams/what-is-a-graded-music-exam/aural-tests/]To clap the pulse of a piece played by the examiner, and to identify whether it is in two time, three time or four time. The examiner will start playing the passage, and the candidate should join in as soon as possible, clapping in time and giving a louder clap on the strong beats. The examiner will then ask whether the music is in two time, three time or four time. The candidate is not required to state the time signature. To sing as ‘echoes’ three phrases played by the examiner. The phrases will be two bars long, in a major or minor key, and within the range of an octave. First the examiner will play the key-chord and the starting note and then count in two bars. After the examiner has played each phrase, the candidate should sing back the echo without a pause, keeping in time.To identify a change in either pitch or rhythm during a phrase played by the examiner. The phrase will be up to four bars long, in a major or minor key. First the examiner will play the key-chord and the tonic and then count in two bars. The examiner will play the phrase twice, making the change in the second playing, after which the candidate should identify the change by describing it, or singing/ clapping. If necessary, the examiner will play both versions of the phrase again (although this may affect the assessment). To answer questions about two features of a piece played by the examiner. Before playing, the examiner will tell the candidate which two features the questions will be about. The first will be one of the following: dynamics (loud/quiet, or sudden/gradual changes), articulation (smooth/detached), tempo (becoming slower/faster, or staying the same); the second will be tonality (major/minor key).

Comments from Our Customers

I used CocoDoc to create an RSVP form for wedding invitations - a simple requirement which was very easy to design and implement. The form-builder is intuitive and has full customisation options with CSS if the basic design aren't sufficient. Overall I'm very satisfied with the look, usability and functionality of CocoDoc.
